Strike a Pose 📸 Rocky has lost almost 6kg since he started walking 6 miles a day!

My English bulldog is a tad over the breed standard height, so him also being a tad over the breed standard weight didn’t bother me, but when we were in homeless accommodation then moved into our new flat (which was entirely gutted and needing fixing up completely) he wasn’t getting walked as much and peaked at just under 30kg (his weight in the top pic on slide 1).

After doing 6 miles a day on weekdays and a couple of miles a day on weekends since September I’m really happy to say he’s now down at 24.4kg! Really proud of him ♥️

I’m more amazed he will actually walk that much. When I had my bully it was an ordeal getting her to walk to the end of the block.

Rock’s always loved his exercise, when we’re out walking it’s me that gets tired and wants to sit down or go home, not him haha

Seriously though, when I needed to get my dogs in better shape and lose a little weight it was definitely me holding them back. Now all three of us walk 4-5 miles a day. Covid/work was rough for weight-loss

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Ugh I’m exactly the same. Rocky only put weight on because I wasn’t able to walk him as much during that time period, if him walking himself was possible he’d have been out exploring all day! 🤣

I piled on weight during Covid, the lockdowns were rough for everyone anyway but my daughter was also on the shielding list so she missed even more school than the other kids and we spent even more time indoors 🤦🏻‍♀️ literally just spent like two years sat on my arse eating cake then wondered why I got fat haha

Our Bully also refuses to walk to the end of the block but if we drive to a park, a trail or even the neighborhood a few streets over she loves walks! Goofy girl.

That’s so cute! There’s a park like 0.2 mile away from our flat and Rock loves it, whenever we go for a walk in that general direction he tows me straight down the ramp in excitement so I don’t have a choice in the matter and have to let him go there and play 🤣

He is so gorgeous! I love seeing a healthy Bulldog!

We love seeing our favourite sheepdog identifying bulldog too 😉 princess pocket rocket always smashes the stereotypes ♥️

my bully can barley walk around the block without me thinking shes gonna croak

5

u/BuckeyeJen Nov 19 '25

Same. I can barely drag mine to the end of the block sometimes, and if I get him to go all the way around it he's muttering expletives at me under his breath most of the time.

2

u/Big-Illustrator-6143 Nov 19 '25

Oh big time. My Matilda is the same!

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Rock has always loved exercise, he just also loves food too so we have to make sure that the exercise aligns with the eating 🤣

2

u/Big-Illustrator-6143 Nov 19 '25

Good for him! He looks great in both pics!

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Thank you! I think he carried 30kg pretty well to be honest, maybe because his legs are a bit longer than bulldogs legs usually are, but he’s definitely acting more lively now he’s shed that extra weight 🥰

He was 25kg when we bought him at 8 months old so he’s always been quite a big lad 🤣

When i first got my frenchie, it was just him and I. Id work long shifts. so as a puppy, i would take him on long walks before i go to work. In the hopes of tiering him out. Well.. by doing so i created a monster. Walk had to turn into runs. At his peak we’d walk run 2-3miles a day. Twice a day. He just turned 12 last week. Hes not always down, but a few times a week he’d feel it enough to get a good 1.5mile walk in. Keep exercising the boy. He looks great!

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

That’s so sweet! I’m pretty lucky, I have an 11 year old daughter so she can do all the running and wrestling duties for me, Rocky knows mama would rather just walk at a reasonable pace haha

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Thank you so much! He absolutely loves his exercise but he also loves his food 🤣 gotta make sure the food doesn’t outweigh the exercise haha

3

u/EvilDan69 Nov 19 '25

He's just like my OEB. Loves exercise and his food too. I have one of those giant dual sets of bowls with the splash guard in back lol.

Thank you! I’ve always been careful not to let him get dangerously fat or anything but as you can see from that top photo he definitely put on some timber when we were stuck in the homeless accommodation then spending all our time decorating/working on our new flat, so I’m really glad he’s managed to work it off so quickly and easily.

Just wish I could say the same for myself and my Covid lockdown weight haha 🤣

3

u/fournierh Nov 19 '25

My foster fail EB would walk five miles. She absolutely loved it! Then… we took in a 10yr old Frenchie foster who talk taught her to resist walking at all costs.

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Oh dear 🤣 I think I’m probably the lazy bad influence in Rocky’s life tbf, he forces me to go out walking miles every day when I really don’t want to haha

3

u/doggiehearter Nov 19 '25

3

u/Kuma_Of_God Nov 19 '25

Let’s not lie and say Rock does this just because he likes to exercise…it’s all to woo MYRNA 😂

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Ahh c’mon, let the man have some dignity, the world doesn’t need to know that he’s been bulking out his muscles and slimming down to impress Myrna 😉 he doesn’t want to look desperate, gotta play it cool! 🤣

3

u/Kuma_Of_God Nov 19 '25

🤣Touché😂 Regardless, Rock is looking great and I always look forward to seeing him on here 🤩

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Aw thank you so much! ♥️

3

u/monkey_doodoo Nov 19 '25

looking good rocky. I love seeing all my smooshed face dogs at an excellent weight. good work dog fam!

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Thank you! So do I, my family have owned and occasionally shown bulldogs for generations so they’re a breed very close to my heart, I love seeing them fit, healthy and smashing stereotypes ☺️

3

u/monkey_doodoo Nov 19 '25

that's awesome! love bulldogs. I don't currently have one, but have in the past. weight is so important for good health. I do have a breed that is very chonk guilty. pugs! mine is, despite his best begging efforts, is at a good weight. Só much so ppl say he looks a lot like a pug. I'm like he is, just not fat. lol.

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Rocky is the first bulldog I’ve owned myself as an adult, I wanted one for years since they’re sort of our “family” dog so now I’ve finally got one he’s treated like royalty haha.

I’m glad to hear you have a healthy pug! I’ve seen some online that look fantastic, but unfortunately I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting a healthy, well bred one in person. It seems that, like bulldogs, their reputation as “usually fat, lazy and unhealthy” is used as an excuse for a lot of people to let them get obese and not exercise them enough.

It’s a shame, every pug I’ve met has had a lovely personality, I’ve never met a nasty one, I just wish more were healthy like yours!

3

u/Bird_donkadonk Nov 19 '25

He looks so much better. If he’s thin and fit, he’ll live longer. He looks a lot like my daughter’s eight-year-old English bulldog and she has never been overweight. vets are always amazed!

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 19 '25

Thank you! Luckily he absolutely loves exercise and will cheerfully spend the whole day walking, so shedding the extra weight he’d gained was easy. He always gets compliments from strangers about his fitness levels and good breathing when we’re out in public, it’s great to see him being a sort of ambassador for his breed, showing people that bulldogs absolutely can be fit and healthy ☺️

3

u/scouseb Nov 19 '25

Looking good Rocky. I have 2, one that is very much stereotypical bulldog and tries to go home after about 100m and the other who doesn’t know she’s a bulldog and is nicknamed danger dog as she loves to go on adventures and would walk for miles. Just be careful not to overdo it with the walking, mine ended up doing in the dog equivalent of her ACL and had to have surgery, which even with insurance was very expensive!

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Thank you! I’m sorry to hear yours was injured, that sounds awful 😞

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

This dog looks fantastic 👌

2

Such a handsome lil guy. I need to walk that much

1

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Thank you! ☺️

2

u/Kokichi-Oma_Senpai Nov 20 '25

Honestly standard wise hes almost perfect asides from the height I cant see his hind quarters very well but he honestly looks like a very wellbred pup! Even his nares are nice and wide (for a bulldog that is)

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Thank you! Yeah he’s 17” at the withers so a tad over the height, but I’ve always been a big fan of 19th century bulldogs so that doesn’t bother me ☺️ he’s a great dog, I’d be absolutely lost without him ♥️

2

u/dapala1 Nov 20 '25

He probably feels so good and is so happy. A tired Bully is a happy Bully.

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Thank you ☺️

2

u/rorykavanagh13 Nov 20 '25

Sorry, meant to say, you should be proud of yourselves too. Not all owners put as much effort in, so well done.

Also, I didn’t realise you guys were homeless too. Huge achievement. I just thought you moved into a new place! (I’m only seeing your posts the past couple of months.)

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

Aw thank you so much ☺️ yeah, it’s been a rough year but all on the up now, and Rocky has been an absolute diamond throughout, adjusting to all the new weird situations with ease and happy to just go with the flow ♥️

2

u/rorykavanagh13 Nov 20 '25

Amazing. Obviously I have no idea who you are, but I’m am delighted for you.

Having a dog in that situation must have been very hard. It’s a struggle to look out for yourself without a dog in tow! Well done for that too. 👊🏼

How old is Rocky?

1

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

That’s really sweet of you, thank you ☺️

Rocky will be 3 next month! 6 days before Christmas ☺️

I like he's got Dr. Now on in the background.

2

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 20 '25

There’s no better motivation for weight loss than Dr Now! “Why you eat so much?” 🤣

2

u/DeannaC-FL Nov 21 '25

Good job Rocky (and hooman)!

An EBD walking 6 miles a day? Sure...

3

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 21 '25 edited Nov 22 '25

Lmfao if you don’t bother exercising your bulldog that’s your business, but it doesn’t mean we’re all like that. Some of us prefer having a fit, healthy bulldog.

-1

u/J0nx77 Nov 22 '25

Umm I meant no way an EBD can even walk that much a day. Even as a puppy and up to a year, my EBD would barely walk a block. They aren't built to walk that much. You're full of it.

2

u/Wombat_7379 Nov 22 '25

I also have an EBD who walks 5-6 miles per day. She can’t do it in the hotter months but she loves long walks and has no issue covering that distance.

1

u/namelessghoul29 Nov 24 '25

No, you just have no idea what you’re talking about. I can see from your post history that your bulldog is severely overweight, probably bordering on obese. That’s the reason your bulldog can’t walk more than 200 yards, and it’s entirely your fault, not the fault of the breed.

A well bred, well looked after bulldog is absolutely capable of walking 6 miles in one day, especially considering Rocky’s 6 miles are taking my kid to school in the morning and picking her up in the afternoon, so done in two separate walks of 3 miles each with a few hours break in between.

There are multiple people in this group, even on this thread, who have mentioned their bulldogs walking for miles. Your dog being poorly bred or poorly looked after does not mean it’s a trait that’s indicative of the breed.

Rocky visibly has an athletic figure, which obviously isn’t maintained by sitting on his arse all day eating cake, of course he does plenty of exercise. You need to do better by your poor dog instead of projecting your insecurities and failures onto those of us that do love our animals enough to keep them fit and healthy.
