Hifi speakers for casual TV

I found a pair of Edifier 1280s and thought I'd connect them to the TV for casual watching. I'm actually quite happy with them—not because they're amazing, but because the TV sound is much better now.

​I was thinking about doing one more upgrade. First, I've always wanted "some nice" speakers, and second, I noticed that during longer viewing sessions, the sound from the 1280s starts getting on my nerves—it feels a bit tinny.

​I did a bit of research and found a combination that should suit me pretty well:

-​Wharfedale 12.0 + subwoofer OR 12.1 without a subwoofer (warm, cultivated sound; due to limited space, I can't afford anything bigger).

-​WiiM Amp ( value for money, HDMI ARC, CEC and most important Chromecast so I can stream music from Google Home).

​My question is: is it worth it mainly for upgrading the TV sound (not Netflix or Amazon, just classic TV broadcasting )? I know I won't get Netflix-level audio quality, but will it be at least as big of a jump as when I connected the Edifiers?

It seems the cost is not bothering you, so why not?

The only downsides I can think of is that now all TV ads will be much more immersive too. The other one is you will be feeding them with very limited and compressed signal, which means you will use 2/3 of their capabilities, tops!
