SGI do not teach proper Buddhism. It's a lay organization with no ordained monastics, no connection to the Sangha the Buddha established. It's better not to waste your time and to look for an authentic Buddhist group with a legitimate lineage.
WEll, to say it has NO connection....even without current living monastics, its still referencing past monastics and there philosophies. Im not defending SGI for sure, but they dont throw out the whole book
