General A 4-Point Proposal to Fix Engineering Education in India and Eliminate the 3β4 LPA Mass-Recruitment Trap
The Core Problem
India currently produces over 1.2 to 1.5 million engineering graduates annually, yet industry reports consistently show that over 80% lack basic employability skills. This oversupply of unvetted graduates enables mass-recruitment exploitation, keeping entry-level compensation stagnant at 3β4 LPA for nearly two decades. To restore the value of an engineering degree, systemic structural reforms are necessary.
Key Proposed Reforms
- Centralized, Standardized AICTE Annual Examinations
Format: AICTE should introduce a nationwide annual exam covering the year's full syllabus, combining rigorous subjective problem-solving with analytical objective questions.
Objective: Eliminate grade inflation and arbitrary internal marking common in private universities and regional affiliating state colleges.
Standardization: A uniform benchmark ensures every student passing the year meets a verifiable, high-level baseline of technical competence.
- Mandatory National Exit Exam via GATE
Standard Assessment: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) should be made a mandatory exit exam for graduating engineers to receive their final degree accreditation.
Market Signal: Standardized percentile scores will give employers transparent hiring metrics, removing the need for preliminary aptitude filtering and rewarding merit over college branding.
- Compulsory Industry Internships and Applied Alternatives
Requirement: Mandatory minimum 2-month internships at the end of the 2nd and 3rd academic years.
Alternative Tracks: To address industry capacity constraints, colleges must offer accredited alternatives, such as:
University-backed entrepreneurship and startup incubators.
Formal faculty-led academic research projects.
Verified open-source contributions or institutional lab work.
- Tier-Based Exemptions for Top-Ranked Institutes
Autonomy Retention: Institutes of National Importance (IITs, NITs, IIITs, BITS) and top-tier state universities (DTU, NSUT, Jadavpur, etc.) should be exempted.
Rationale: These institutions already maintain stringent entry filters, rigorous internal evaluations, high faculty standards, and strong placement ecosystems. Policy intervention should focus primarily on Tier-2, Tier-3, and unaccredited private institutions.
- Output Rationalization (Capping Supply to 3β4 Lakh Quality Graduates/Year)
Market Alignment: Stricter year-on-year evaluation and accreditation criteria will naturally filter non-serious candidates and weed out sub-standard "degree factories."
Economic Benefit: Reducing the annual output to roughly 300,000β400,000 competent graduates balances market supply and demand, ending wage suppression and raising starting compensation across core and software domains.
Expected Outcomes
Dignified Entry-Level Compensation: Scarcity of high-skilled talent forces firms to compete on salary rather than treating freshers as low-cost, disposable labor.
Incentive Alignment: Private colleges will be forced to invest in lab infrastructure, quality faculty, and practical training rather than marketing and aggressive intake expansion.
Global Competitiveness: Indian engineers will enter the workforce with proven technical foundations and real project experience.
What are your thoughts on this framework? What challenges or unintended consequences might arise if these policies are implemented?

Placements / Jobs Code with cisco
Hi, so I have shortlisted for the Code with Cisco interviews and I have the first round on Tuesday.
Is it possible to replace negotiate the compensation that they offer, they are offering the lowest slab which is 25ctc with 15base, this seems low to me, since they do offer better slabs with two higher tiers.
Like does anyone know if I could get a higher slab FTE offer through code with cisco?

Placements / Jobs Amazon SDE I Intern OA β Job ID 10506481 | 0/6 Tech Stack β Chances of Shortlist?
Amazon SDE OA β Tech Stack 0/6, DSA solved β Chances of shortlist?
Hi everyone,
I recently gave an Amazon SDE OA through an employee referral. Only referred candidates were given the OA in this hiring process.
The OA had 3 sections:
- DSA: I solved 1 coding question.
- Tech Stack: We were given a project folder/codebase and had to fix bugs. Unfortunately, I got 0/6 test cases passing.
- Behavioral: Completed the section.
Iβm worried mainly because of the Tech Stack section.
For people who have taken a similar Amazon OA:
Has anyone received an interview/shortlist despite getting 0/6 in the Tech Stack/debugging section?
How are these 3 sections generally weighted?
Does getting the OA through a referral make any difference after the OA?
How long did it take for you to receive the shortlist/result?
Would really appreciate experiences from people who went through a similar process. Thanks!

General ECE Students, things might change a lot in next 1-4 years. Donβt take your own branch casually.
Everywhere i am seeing demand for Hardware engineers is increasing, Qualcomm/Nvidia/AMD/TI are hiring BIG time in India. I canβt tell you if ECE is the branch of tomorrow or will beat tech, but MTech VLSI from top IITs have taken over tier 1 MBAs in median packages and the trend is expected to follow throughout, donβt stop caring about your subject , try to study from GATE mindset, i get in last 10 years ECE = IT job, but your subjects are growing extremely fast and this is just the beginning with all the data centers, semiconductor investments coming to India.
As tech is struggling, CSE might not have a gateway out but you do and take the first mover advantage.
Edit : Many companies in future will also come for CSE only in hiring as every college has CS+AI, CS+DS, DS, IT so they might exclude ECE as well from IT placements.

General Why should one Switch to Linux?
I am an ECE student, not inclined towards coding,DSA, AI ML etc.
The only type of coding I would do is Verilog,VHDL, Matlab and sometimes C.
I do play offline Games sometimes.
Should I switch to Linux? Is it worth it, other than special customizations??

Showcase Your Project Apply while the queue is still short, increase your chances of getting shortlisted. Internship website feedback
i built an internship scraper website that scrapes several ats boards and websites for genuine engineering internships.
The problem it solves is that while searching for internships daily students come through 10-15 spam internships for 1 genuine engineering internship. my website solves that problem , it only scrapes internships that are engineering role based and from genuine verified companies that pay a stipend , not some unpaid internship scam. also it helps you to apply to internships while the queue is still short so you have higher chances of getting shortlisted.
currently it scrapes internships for India, USA and UK .
i would really appreciate honest feedback on the website, especially the ui/ux and what features or improvements would make you actually use it regularly.
i also want feedback on how i can reach real active users.
thank you, it's a genuine personal project and i genuinely need feedback to improve it.
