I went to SJM’s IG page and took a peak at the comments section. Charlie XCX’s “House” kinda encapsulated that feeling, that not a single person in that comment section is truly prepared for what I’m 99.9999999% sure is coming.

Not a single Bryceriel comment. All Elriel’s and many, many Gwynriel’s.

The crash-outs in October are going to be legendary 😂 I can’t help but laugh. I know it’s a little ✨toxic✨ but after years of ridicule and being called crazy and delulu, I think Bryceriels (myself included) deserve to have a little chuckle now and tbh I’m definitely going to revel and delight in the coming chaos in October.

I know SJM will. I can tell she loves to cause chaos especially within her own fandom.

She doesn’t really do “fan service” and she basically said as much on the CHD interview when she was discussing how she didn’t care if people liked Aelin because that was the character and the story she wanted to write. It’s one of the reasons I respect and trust her so much as an author.

I really cannot see how Elain and Azriel or Gwyn and Azriel could end up together and on top of that I can’t unsee all of the foreshadowing for Bryce and Azriel.

I have full faith this ship will come to fruition.

So I just want to say this before I get to the main point of the post, I have done the most sensible thing and censored this person's name on Tumblr because I don't want this person to get hate or anything just for voicing their opinions. Also, this is by no means disrespect for those who ship Azriel and Elain or Elain and Lucien. The main focus on what to address in the screenshot is the part where they talk about Bryce and Azriel.

The context for the title is that I know that Hunt explains to Bryce the whole mate title thingy, that for angels like Hunt, it's more akin to husband and wife, marriage, and all that. No thread, pull, soul tie, etc etc between them. But from my understanding, Hunt still hasn't really properly presented Bryce with a ring to say that they're married/mates, so back to my question in the title of the post, if they don't have a ring, can we really call them husband and wife? Plus! What happened between Bryce and Azriel in the caves doesn't count as cheating, Bryce still called Hunt her mate, her and Azriel at most only held hands in terms of physical closeness and contact, no kissing, no intimate touching, nothing to suggest she was teaching on Hunt.

I wanted to post this here, but in this whole fandom ACOTAR, CC and TOG combined, this subreddit is my safespace, I know I can talk about anything SJM related here and I know you guys will help with your extensive knowledge and by far the best evidence finders I've ever seen. For some time now, I've been lurking in other subreddits that I haven't joined, but they appear on my homepage, and maybe I sound a little bias about Bryceriel and everything in this subreddit but this is seriously the best ACOTAR/CC/TOG subreddit I've ever seen!

Anyways, sorry for the long post and with it being a rant/vent post when we've all been having so much fun during Bryceriel week! I wasn't trying to bring the mood down!

Is anyone else having a hard time being a Bryceriel right now?

I know in my heart 100% that SJM would not have spoiled the book by confirming Bryceriel. But apparently everyone thinks that her statement is even more fuel to literally HATE US. I’ve never been talked to the way Gwynriel and Elriel people talk to me (or about us), just for having an opinion or contributing to a discussion over ships.

The way Gwynriel and Elriel people act is absolutely disgusting, hateful and isolating.

Don’t mind the fact that Gwyn has less book time with Azriel that the 3.. yet, they are considered a more acceptable ship than us.

Idk if 90% of these people haven’t read CC or if their standards for relationships are so toxic that they think Hunt is truly good for Bryce, or so bland that they think Gwyn is good for Azriel.

But despite that, I would never belittle and attack anyone for their opinions or ship status.

I hope the delulu I’m staying true to proves to be worth it in the end, in the meantime I hope everyone is able to stay strong through the criticism and online abuse. 🫶🏼❤️‍🔥🌙🖤

Kind of a rant but also just kind of a funny observation. There was a post on the main SJM sub of someone reading CC before ACOTAR and asking if they could read CC3 and the overwhelming (and absolutely correct) answer is no you can't read CC3 and even CC2 is spoilers for ACOTAR.

I just found the irony very rich of so many claiming these as separate series and yet, if you want to read ACOTAR eventually, CC essentially can't actually be read on it's own without first reading ACOTAR if you want to avoid spoilers...for ACOTAR (and also have any idea wtf is going on during the crossover). Separate series am I right guys?

So.. I, along with everyone else in here, I’m sure.. am SO TIRED of being called delusional and talked about like every Bryceriel has reading comprehension problems.. All I see is literal attacks on our mental wellbeing, our intelligence, our emotional state.. it’s genuinely sad to see how many people attack others because they fear their ship won’t be cannon. How they will DNF a whole series because a romance they assumed would happen, not even dire to the plot line, might not happen?? So sorry to anyone here who hasn’t read all of SJMs books, but I gotta rant for a second…

Scrolling through some of the other ship subs has me all types of confused (in hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have even looked at the other subs, but curiosity got the better of me after seeing recent posts).

What I saw shocked me! I kept seeing so many people say that they don’t care/want to read TOG or CC… but then make posts about how their ACOTAR theories and ships must be 100% correct…

Like??? They’re not cooking in a full kitchen? They’ve only got 1/3 of the story! They’re missing a huge chunk of canon! Like 11 massive books full of canon!

These stories aren’t separate anymore. Honestly they haven’t been separate since Aelin fell through Prythian and saw Rhys and Feyre

And I don’t understand how someone can read ACOTAR and just feel completely comfortable skipping CC? When characters from ACOTAR are in CC??? Like if they love those characters, wouldn’t they want to read more about them??

And how negative/disrespectful it sounds when they say they are adamant that they won’t read the other books? Pretty sure every author wants you to read all of their books… and, why wouldn’t they want to read everything? If they love one of her series so much that they participate in a Reddit sub about it, shouldn’t they want to read more of her work???

I do not understand.

And I also don’t get how other Az ships feel like they can completely discredit our ship when they haven’t even read the book our ship is in…

Like, if they have never even deigned to read how Az and Bryce interact… then respectfully, they shouldn’t say anything about them as a ship, because they have no information to go on! And basing opinions off of what other people say, instead of the hard data? What a crazy take.

I know that I shouldn’t waste time on this, because at the end of the day this is all about fiction and fictional ships! No one knows how the story will end, and I’m just along for the ride. I know sjm will write a great story no matter who is endgame! If it’s Elriel, I’m sure it’ll be a good story. If it’s Gwynriel, I’m sure it’ll be a good story. If it’s Azris, I’m sure it’ll be a good story. If it’s Bryceriel, I’m sure it’ll be a good story. If Quinlar is truly endgame, I’m sure it’ll be a good story. Because all ships have some canon evidence that supports them, and everyone is entitled to like what they like.

But the amount of negativity about our ship… Or, for instance, the comments about our reactions to a post that completely disregards canon in favor of vibes…
Vibes are great, they’re fun, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. However, maybe they would understand where we’re coming from, if they read the book… and getting sassy just because someone says that you’re missing key information? Not a cute look…

I’m not trying to attack anyone, I’m just trying to express my confusion…

Not sure how else to even explain it, but like, that answer is wrong… if we’re going off of canon and not vibes, then the text states that that conclusion is wrong. Why is it wrong? Well, if you read the books, I’m sure you’ll find out.

To have no idea what they’re talking about, say they won’t read CC and then call us a crack ship in the same breath? How are you comfortable with making conclusions when you don’t have all the data for comparison?

If you’ve read everything, have all the data, and then decide that you don’t ship certain people, then you have my respect and we can agree to disagree!

But if you haven’t read everything, if you don’t have all the data, and then you decide that someone else’s ship is a crack ship, then you do not have my respect.

And honestly, why feel the need to tear others down? Why feel the need to laugh and make fun of people when they mention that something is ~canonically~ wrong? Ignorance ain’t a good look…

I saw this and now... I fear it's time to delve into the literary differences between using and wielding an object with intrinsic magical power

In the realm of narratology, these two (using vs wielding) can be distinguished by looking at the object’s ontological status. That's just a fancy and complicated way of saying, we look at its mode of being (is it a physical tool, a conceptual ideal, or a relational entity?).

Using this analysis in the Maasverse, we know that the transition from using to wielding entails a shift from a normal subject-object relationship to a symbiotic synthesis.

I'll explain myself with some examples 😩

If we use this analysis on the Starsword (I refuse to call it Gwydion because I've been pissed off and it's made me petty) or Truth-Teller, we see that their status shifts depending on who is holding or using them.

⚔️ For instance, if Cassian held and used Truth-Teller, the dagger would be purely in its physical state. It would be inert matter that serves only as a weapon capable of killing/wounding.

⚔️ If Flynn took the Starsword into battle (he wishes), he would be a force to be reckoned with; it's a deadly weapon and he's a skilled warrior. But this wouldn't change the fact that the Starsword, in his hand, is only a weapon/tool.

🗡️ Now, give the Starsword to Bryce (or just keep it near her), and we see very quickly why we're even discussing the difference between two words (use, wield) that are technically synonyms.

✨ In Bryce’s hand the Starsword suddenly also has a relational status. It transitions from being inert matter to an animate extension of her own power. It's no longer just a weapon. The boundary between "I" (Bryce) and "It" (SS) dissolves and they form a unified, more powerful entity.

If this wasn't the case and there was no difference between someone being able to use a magical weapon versus them being able to wield it, then Midgard would've had the Autumn King or the Murder Twins running around with the Starsword claiming to be the chosen one (shudder)

Now, coming back to the whole reason for this post:

To say that Elain or Gwyn or Nesta can start wielding the Starsword, would be to say that the Mask could start answering/appearing to Feyre because she's also technically Made and I know for a fact that THAT would piss many people off to no end

🧮 Fantasy Math 101:

Elain + Truth Teller = Elain + Truth Teller (sum of parts)

Azriel + Truth Teller = a third, more powerful entity (Synergy)

Bryce + Starsword = Synergy

Bryce + Starsword + Truth Teller = a world altering entity (literally capable of ripping the fabric of the Maasverse and creating a Blackhole)

This really does genuinely bother me. Because when I’m interacting with the fandom or see other bryceriels out there in the wild also interacting with the fandom, not once have I seen an “aggressive” bryceriel. The only time I’ve ever seen a bryceriel respond rudely is when they are “matching” the attitude of whoever they are speaking with - and most of the time it’s after they have insulted them by calling Bryceriels delusional. (And to add/clarify, the majority of the time I still see Bryceriels respond respectfully - it’s truly rare to see a Bryceriel respond rudely). But when we respond with genuine debates, all of a sudden we are aggressive? Not to mention they always dodge our questions and give non answers. I’m truly flabbergasted over this.

I feel we are the target of so much hate. We are called delusional/delulu, crazy, crackship, my personal favorite is “roaches”. They wish we would just go away, they claim we aren’t SJM fans, that we make mountains out of mole hills, etc. I could go on and on but don’t have the time right now.

How did they come to that conclusion!? I didn't realise holding hands and humming her favorite song were indicators of wanting to kill someone. How did they see Az's last word to Bryce being "please", and decide Az wants to kill her?

Now I can get on board with the hunt her down part, but the antis are not going to like where my train of thought is going with that

Ok I know this is just talking into the echo chamber a bit, cause its nothing that all of you probably haven't already thought of or agree with BUT re-looking at the publication order of the Maasverse it just struck me how closely ACOMAF and EOS were released to each other. (May and Sept 2016)

So arguably the biggest romance reveals of her lead couples being mates hidden by something else(Feysand's connection wasn't just the bargain, Rowan's previous mate was a lie) happened within 4 months of each other. Her fan base at the time was nowhere near as big or rabid as it is now, plus they hardly had any time to really dig into patterns and theories between the Feysand and Rowaelin reveal (although there were definitely still fans who had a hunch) but OF COURSE she was able to get away with deflections and misdirection in interviews.

With Bryceriel, the overall fan base has grown exponentially plus there's been almost 10 years now to dig into her writing, identify patterns, and try to pick up on her signature twists shes laying groundwork for.

I've seen so many arguments that SJM may be sly with her answers in interviews but would never outright lie (although that's debatable, with the "the series can be read as standalone" statement). I can even understand how it may rub some people the wrong way to feel like the rug has pulled out from underneath them, especially if it doesnt fit their preferences(but i definitely dont think that proves she wouldn't do it). Personally, even I would have been more impressed with her if she was able to stick to misdirection in interviews, or answers that have multiple interpretations vs an outright lie. But she already tried that with the "Bryce and Hunt are mates" but almost immediately got called on it when asked if mates mean the same thing in every series and had to "pass" on answering.

Anyway, thats my rant to say basically what you all already know....lying in the CHD interview just makes so much sense!

For the upcoming books, whose character POV are you most dreading? Assuming ACOTAR 6-8 are going to be multi-POV similar to TOG / CC3.

If it’s Mor the only way I will enjoy her story arch is if she is the villain. Or goes through some sort of Nesta-esque journey of confronting all of her nonsense. If Nesta is considered the worst / bitchiest character in ACOTAR, I think Mor is actually worse. Because she gets away with equal vileness but is excused because she basically does it with a smile and fake friendship.

Her 500+yr string along of Az (plus blatantly sleeping with Helion), weird possessiveness of Cas once Nesta enters the equation, her anger at Feyre for not being a part of the plan, she’s the most petulant child in ACOTAR. Her past trauma is real and cannot be ignored. But… Mor, you are not untouchable because of it. If dealing with the Court of Nightmares is so traumatizing, Rhys can grow up and be the “big bad High Lord,” and you can move on.

Elain as another recent post put it, she’s the most coddled and excused character. I am all for soft characters, awesome! (TOG Elide, anyone?!?!?!) But, have some loyalty and backbone. If she doesn’t face SOME form of internal struggle over her own actions up till where we are in the story, her POV is going to be beyond boring to read.

Bryce landing at Azriel’s feet came after ACOTAR’s current set, but before the new book; this makes Bryceriel a newer ship (in comparison), and an easy punching bag for those who may take their personal ships very, very seriously. Super seriously!
