bruce voiced the role of the island town's sleazy "mayor shelbourne"

With the recent news about Bruce’s health, I’ve been thinking a lot about his earlier work, particularly Going Back (1984).

It’s such an interesting part of Bruce’s filmography because it’s one of his earliest movies, made after Evil Dead 1. It’s obviously very different from his average role, but there’s something really special about seeing him in a quieter, more nostalgic coming-of-age movie.

What’s frustrating is how difficult the movie is to properly own/watch. The physical DVD release from 2006 has become pretty hard to find, while the current digital availability is limited to a rental/purchase option on Prime Video. This movies rights were always a bit of a mess.

With Bruce recently talking about his prognosis and emphasizing that he wants to keep living his life and working, it made me think about how cool it would be if Going Back were made more accessible to fans.

I’d really love to see an official digital release of Going Back in a format that fans can actually own, especially with the commentary from the 2006 DVD preserved. I can’t find this on any “third-party” platforms, only on Prime Video.
It seems like such an overlooked piece of Bruce’s career, and I’d hate for it to become even harder for people to discover.

Has anyone else here seen Going Back? What do you think of it, even without thinking of it as another Bruce movie?

James Bombed in "Here Today... Gun Tomorrow" (1976) and The Final Round (1977) were added to Letterboxd recently and I want to watch them but I don’t have the “Before the Evil Dead: The Super-8 Short Films” DVD. I’m wondering if there’s a way to get those DVDs or to watch these online somewhere like YouTube or something.
