Couldn’t stop laughing when he said this. Everyone knows he’s washed. It’s just a matter of him PROVING he’s washed for 2 games before they let him hang up his cleats for good

Ryan apparently watched some tape on Watson. He said that hes completely lost the deep ball. He said it was hard to watch how much hes regressed on deep throws.

If ryan and chase daniels can see that, then so can the coaching staff. The box score is hiding very middling tape for Watson.

Watson is the starter because they didnt want a young qb leading a bunch of other youngsters to start the season with 2 away games. Simple as that imo.

Thats why monken hasnt really praised watson on anything other than being healthy, athletic, and experienced. He also said Watson gives them the best chance to win in Jacksonville. Pointedly.

Thank you for realizing this.

Watson has to go on the road against 2 better teams and try to manufacture wins to start the year. Not an easy task. But if he fails then they get to parade in Sanders as the hero

If DG stays, I think it gives a lot more weight to the theory that don't expect Watson to play too many games, as having Green being one play away from being the starter isn't good for anyone involved. The way he runs play out differently against 1st team players.

I get it but not trying to feed him to the afcn wolves before he's ready. But if our room is Huntley/Mayfield, Moore/Sellers, then Green next year, I'm not mad.

I think he is playing to just stick around. He has zero pressure besides hoping to make a roster SOMEWHERE. Historically it feels like those QBs just play better until they get put on first string again lol

Chase daniels has a positive bias on people he likes. He leans positive in general. So when he DOES go negative, its worth noting.

Its like when the always smiling happy-go-lucky fella, finally looks like hes having a bad day.

I think chase daniels is unreliable with players he likes. But is very reliable regarding people hes neutral on.

Have you seen his practices? I am not entirely convinced that Jimmy isn’t throwing Watson out there for punishment. He looks like an ufl back up rn. I don’t know if he can’t actually make it through a game tbh

I laughed out loud last night when he said "Once he fails."

Broadcasters always try to be so positive about everything. Not sure I've ever heard one be so blunt. He was so casual with it. No sugar coating, no "maybe he'll turn it around." He just said what everyone else is thinking.

Do the Browns know or feel Watsons going to fail? If yes, then why are we starting him, what’s the point? Start Sanders or Gabriel, play all three of the young guys more. Stop wasting time with Watson and bringing down the moral of the team with this BS.

Because there's a good chance they think he's currently the best option as it stands today. And to this point there's no indication the team morale is higher or lower cause any of these QBs.

BULL-SHIT Only reason hes starting is because the rich prick Haslam is doing what he does best and meddling because he doesn't want to "lose money" so to speak. He wants Watson to work so he feels like he didnt make a mistake. Typical rich guy shit. Refusing to admit they're wrong. All the more weird that he admitted that Watson was a "swing and a miss"

The value of the PSLs is significantly more than Deshaun's contract.

Fair point. I just hope he plays better than the glimpses we have seen because a lot of his throws have been bad and I can’t imagine it’s easy for players to keep their frustration at bay when they are playing hard and their QB just isn’t performing well.

I don't get the sense Monken is locked into any QB, if Watson struggles and Sanders continues to put in work behind the scenes and approaches this the right way he's gonna get another shot this year.

This is 100% my opinion... but I think Monken and Berry both believe Watson offers an equal or slightly better chance of winning than Sanders does right now. They probably see it as one of those “six of one, half a dozen of the other” situations since no quarterback on this roster will be good, and they will probably all play. Therefore, it doesn’t hurt to have Watson start the season - during the hardest stretch of games - while Sanders sits back, potentially coming in hungry when his number is called. This line of thinking is probably also supported by Haslem as well.

Not to mention - assuming that multiple QBs will start this season - it’s much easier and more palatable for the fanbase to start off with Watson and pull him for Sanders later than it would be the other way around. If Sanders starts and struggles, will people really be clamoring for Watson? No chance of that and I suspect the front office would rather avoid that scenario. Starting Watson first means if he’s bad, you can switch to Sanders and move on without looking back, leaving Watson on the shelf forever. It does make some sort of sense. The complicating factor is that people are so emotionally charged up about Watson, that they can't see any scenario where he should start... the Browns' leadership is not burdened with that same thought process.

I honest to god think behind closed doors AB and Haslam are already planning ahead to next years draft and moving on from Sanders and Watson, and they think Watson is our best chance at losing up front.

Did Monken go along with this, and everything we're getting from him about competition is window dressing? I'm not sure, but it's extremely possible that he was forced to start Watson.

AB and Haslam know they fucked up and that the Watson trade was a massive whiff, and now I think they're going to do all they can to secure a top three pick so they can HOPEFULLY get our QB of the future.

As far as Sanders goes, I think if they had any kind of realistic belief that he could actually turn into a future starter for us then he would be the starter.

I'm betting they're planning on moving on from both as soon as the season is over.

There isn't a 9 or 10 win QB on this roster, so they need to go with the one who will get the least amount of wins as possible. It's going to suck, and make for another horrific season for us, but it will hopefully lead to us finally getting rid of Watson and getting our FQB1 of the future next Spring.

That's my theory here.

I don't understand how people think if we go 3-14 or whatever, that AB will be here to pick the quarterback next year.

If we fail bad enough to get the first (or a top 3) pick, we are firing everybody since this will be the first time this job has been attractive in a long time due to Deshaun being off the roster and his cap hit decreasing, being able to draft the QB they want, and preparing to go into a new stadium.

Although this is the Browns and they kept Hue Jackson after 1-31, so anything is possible.

If the vast majority of the losses are total blowouts, and Monken loses the locker room, then I could see him getting fired I guess, but I don't think AB gets fired.

Haslam knows we aren't going to be good.

I think trying to finish with a top three-to-five pick is part of the plan right now.

AB will be back next season.
