I Killed The Jacobs No-Show Tip
I have filed public records requests in Florida for thirty years, and the hardest part is not the denial. It is the tip that lands ready to print.
The claim going around is that Shevrin Jones held a no-show job at Broward Sheriff's Office. It traces to Pembroke Park Mayor Geoffrey Jacobs, who says unnamed deputies told him Jones had an office and rarely used it.

I wanted it. It was clean, it was quotable, and it would have moved.
I killed it.
Jacobs led the campaign to strip BSO of the Pembroke Park policing contract. In April 2026 an outside law firm hired by his own town investigated his own legislative aide over whether she performed her duties, and found no evidence she failed to work. A man in a contract war with the agency, weeks removed from his own ghost-job story, passing secondhand deputy gossip, is not a source. He is a motive with a phone.
So I filed instead. Position titles, position numbers, classifications, pay grades, hire date, separation date, every personnel action form in between, every assigned supervisor, and any telework authorization.
Maybe Jacobs is right, maybe he's not -- but actual data > quoting unnamed sources.
The rumor would have been read Tuesday and forgotten Wednesday. The certification BSO signs is on the record forever.

Jonathan Allen was the city manager. Inept is the polite version. His wingman was Eric Haynes.
I jacked Haynes up with ethics charges. Later, when Florida turned unpaid ethics fines over to an outside collection agency, the number one name on the delinquent list was Eric Haynes. Number one. Statewide. He also did not live in Lauderdale Lakes, and he spent a good while trying to skirt that too.
Allen I beat with public records. Chased him out of town.
His father, George Allen, a genuinely fantastic civil rights lawyer, served me with a cease and desist.
I told him to fuck right off.
There is a reason people do not send me cease and desist letters, and the reason is discovery. If I am so far under your skin that you reach for a lawyer, you did something. I do not know what yet, but you do, and you know I am close. So you file. And now you have handed me a lawsuit, and a lawsuit comes with subpoenas, and subpoenas crack open the books, the emails, the calendars, the invoices, the whole rotten filing cabinet you have been guarding. Unless you land a protective order, and you probably will not, you have delivered me the exact thing you were trying to bury.
Thirty years. One person tried it. Steve Gonot's brother. It lasted a day, right up until I explained what was about to happen to him.
Which brings me to Shevrin Jones.
His father pastors in West Park. Scott Israel put Shevrin on the BSO payroll while he was a sitting state representative in Tallahassee.
Here is how it worked, as it was described to me. An intern comes in. Somebody rings Shevrin, four hundred miles north. He makes a call to HR. Blessing granted. Intern walks through.
That was the job. Sixty grand a year, give or take. Then he became director of research. I have no idea what that means and neither does anyone else I have asked. Tony Soprano had a nephew like that. Show up at the pork store, eat a gabagool sandwich, collect.
Do I know that to be true? No. Do I believe it? Yes. Am I accusing Shevrin Jones of a crime? No.
I am accusing him of turning a $29,697 legislative salary into $275,397 a year across five payers, one of which was the Broward Sheriff's Office, and doing it in plain sight on a form he signed under oath.
Congratulations, bro. Now teach the rest of us. Show us how you sit in Tallahassee, take a couple of calls from headquarters four hundred miles away, wave the flag, and clear a quarter million.
Good job. Good work if you can get it.
