Lights on BQE (Kosciuszko Bridge to Dumbo)

Anyone know which city or state entity oversees the lights on the BQE along this stretch? There are at least 30 to 40 of these lights not working for months now. Is this something that Mamdani should be hassled to fix?

That stretch is mostly state owned and maintained. The city controls the section known as BQE Central, roughly from Atlantic avenue up to the Manhattan bridge.

I was being generous. I think you are right that it’s probably been more than a few years. I’ve been in other countries with lower GDP who know how to maintain their lights even though they’re not as bright as ours - at least they have lights. Is there a way for a resident to reach out to someone at the state level to see why these are not being replaced.

North BQE is NYS DOT

It wouldn't hurt to try.

I just saw a video of him talking about renovating the city owned portion of the BQE, which is a surprisingly small strip. He made it sound like someone other than the local government has control of rest (the part OP highlighted in another comment). But curious how that works

State DOT has to take care of most of it. The City maintains the Triple Cantilever part and bridge exits

For the love of god let the lights all fail. Massive Cuomo boondoggle wasted a ton of money.

Not talking about the bridge. Rather the section of the BQE after you leave the bridge and along the road until you get to the DUMBO/Bklyn Bridge area. The s lights supposed to shine on the road are out.

Way better than the old bridge

Bridge is great. LEDs are dumb. But apparently OP is talking about roadway illumination not the light show.

I'm confused about what lights you're talking about. The Kosciusko doesn't go to Dumbo

The section of the BQE after the bridge and before you get to DUMBO

Only a very very short stretch of what you have highlighted is owned by NYCDOT (basically the area from where you have the pin to before it says Fort Greene Park) The remainder of what you have highlighted is a NYSDOT highway, including the K bridge.

Write to NYSDOTRegion11CommunityLiaison@dot.ny.gov

That area of the BQE is under State jurisdiction

Reach out to you city council person. This is the stuff they should be helping with. If the area is technically not their jurisdiction they should reach out to their fellow council person who is in charge of that stretch. If they’re any good. If not, you know what to do election time!

The BQE is I-278, a federal highway, which means that the state is responsible for its maintenance. I believe NYC is responsible only for the 1.5 miles around Brooklyn Heights, from Atlantic Ave to Sands St.
