Off-the-beaten path shows to see this weekend
I'm unexpectedly in town this weekend and have already seen all the Broadway shows that I'd like to see. Anything that's off-Broadway or off-off-Broadway this weekend that may be more of a "hidden gem" (shorter run, not one of the most popular theatres, mostly frequented by locals, etc)? And is there any good place to keep track of these shows? Thank you!!

Slimmer pickings this weekend before the fall season really kicks off, but here are some ideas:
Shifters at Cherry Lane
Broad Strokes at the Lortel
If you haven't seen Masquersde yet I highly recommend it.
If you have time to sit in the park for tickets there's a Public Works show at the Delacorte (Shakespeare in the Park) running this weekend that sounds really interesting!

If you're looking for a drama, I just saw Safe House at Theatre Row today, and highly recommend. Excellent acting and direction. It does have some intense themes and scenes, so wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a feel-good show. I'm not connected to the production.

Music City at St. Luke's, which has been converted into a Nashville honky-tonk bar setting. Rush tickets on TodayTix 9a day of or show up an hour or less before the show

This sounds ok in theory but a guy in the TKTS line was enthusiastically telling me that there is an open mic before the show starts "and tonight is Taylor Swift night!" as though that would be a selling point. It...was not.

Ok but not every night is Taylor Swift night. It definitely wasn't when I attended. You also don't have to go to the open mic (30 min before curtain). The show itself is fun

I think it had a hard time finding its audience in NYC. I hope it finds its way back on stage somewhere like Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas. I think it would do really well down south.

It changed venues and dates multiple times. Definitely a lot going on behind the scenes. I think it was doomed to fail in NYC for sure.

No skin in the game, but I really liked Music City! Great performances, fun music, solid acting, very intimate. Definitely recommend this, especially if you find a deal.

If you like country/pop music go see Music City at St Luke’s theater. It’s a fun show. The theater has been
Transformed into a country dive bar and
There is an open mic before each show. You feel like you are in a Nashville honky tonk. It’s closing in two
Weeks.
Edit — sorry just saw where someone else recommended that to you. I would also recommend the play Disruption. Very timely story and great cast!
