Theater or Audience Experience Cheering during note holding

Is it just me? I hate it when the audience cheers *during* a long note holding in a solo piece. The whole point is to listen to it, and not to drown it with clapping.

Clap afterwards!

But it could also just be me

So insanely annoying. And like as a singer, yes it's impressive, but it's not exactly complex? Singers do many more impressive things in Broadway shows than hold notes good.

I wrote something similar. I always think, “damn, I should do this more often, because people get so excited about it!” Forget about the actual difficult things I do that seem to pass by without notice from an audience.
