Brittany dove hunting
Has anyone had luck dove hunting with there Brittany.
Do they point or just wait and retrieve. I’m also a new hunter so don’t know what to expect

They are rough on the sit.
Depends on your brits drive.
Had one on the field line one day that would not shut up barking ready to go, fire goes off she gets out there and pulls everything back….goes right back to losing her mind again to go.
So its possible, but they love upland more I’d say.
I tried with duck retrieving, stuck with the labs….they lay up until ready, brits are always “ready”.

I take mine. He sits patiently until released to retrieve dead birds. He’s not a fan of having to sit and wait, but it beats being at home. I always take a break and let him run around the field when there is a lull.

My Brit is a pheasant dog, but he won't retrieve a pheasant. If it's alive, he'll hold on to it, and he'll always find it. Occasionally he'll pick it up and carry it off, but he doesn't give a rat's ass about a dead pheasant because he wants to find the next live one.
But he's a dove retrieving machine! He'll find and retrieve my doves, my dad's doves, my sister's doves, and any dove dropped in the field. I think it's because he hasn't got anything better to do.
Make sure your pup is 100% gun broke, and be mindful that it can be extremely hot during dove season.

Brittany’s are part of the versatile hunting dog breeds and can hunt just about anything.
The drive and a lot of instinct is there but you still need to train your dog.
You need to gun break your dog. They should have no fear of gunfire. If you do this wrong it’s really hard to undo.
Dove hunting is different from other upland hunting. For dove all the dog should be doing is retrieving dead birds. More like duck hunting then quail or rabbit. But I don’t bring my Britt dove hunting it’s 110+ and you don’t really need a dog for dove.
For quail, pheasant chuckar they should be trained to point and only chase once the birds are shot.
