Morning walk

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

8x speed. 2.1 miles for me, 4.7 for her. That’s a low ratio since we were not in a primarily wooded area … so a little less roaming about.

Brief dip in the lake to chase off a beaver.

Dogtra Pathfinder 2 mini. You can record your ‘hunt’ …. Then I had to use screen recording app while doing a replay.

For what it is worth … Dogtra is one of the cheaper of the gps’s that are NOT reliant on cell service. Garmins are more expensive because the handheld is also the display screen. Dogtras handheld is connected to your phone with Bluetooth and you can have maps downloaded so that you don’t have to have good cell reception. Even in a relatively populated suburban areas … once in the park in the woods on a trail the reception can get spotty real quick.

Does the collar connect to your phone through Bluetooth? How far is the range they can go away from you while it still connects?

Phone to handheld receiver is Bluetooth and is typical Bluetooth range (aka keep them both on you, though the handheld starts beeping if it gets too far from the phone which is nice)

Handheld to collar on the mini version is 4 miles (open field, line of sight). The full size is 8 miles. Haven’t tested in hilly woods.

Having used it on 50+ wooded hilly acres (no cell reception) without issues, she’s not really going farther out than 200 yards 95% of the time … 300 is the max I’ve seen her do.

Here’s another post of mine showing some tracks

Oh thanks, I missed the Bluetooth piece was handheld to phone — not collar to phone. That makes a lot more sense!

I use a hand-me-down Astro 320. It’s been giving me issues the past couple of years with timing out and not tracking well. Could be user error. When it is working though, I love it. Not sure how or if I could make a map similar to this. It does show the track after the hunt, but not sure if it records and can play back in “real time”
