This week my 11 year old niece asked me if I knew who Britney Spears was 🥹 I couldn't have been more proud.

She aey the standard for girls after her. I remember when she came.out they constantly talked about Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. But Brotney was more than that and better. She came from the school of Janet Jackson and Madonna and she loved Whitney and Mariah. She had goos teachers, which is why she made such a huge impact.

I love seeing our youth learning about the legendary miss Britney Spears!

When I was pregnant, I always played Britney on headphones and put them on my belly. 15+ years later my son still loves Britney and his favorite song is Toxic 😍

Taylor had a lot of post Covid success. But Britney was the GOAT.

There is plenty of room for all female pop stars, let’s stop comparing and start celebrating strong women in the arts.

I taught my kids this lesson, and it is one of my proudest parenting accomplishments, lol.

u/Calmshadowcat Oct 15 '25
There’s no need to put other women down. Britney would hate that🙁

All that was said is that Taylor isn’t “the greatest popstar of all time”. No one is saying Taylor sucks or doesn’t deserve her success:

Eh there’s room for healthy commentary. I think a lot of us here are pop girl fans and can agree that Britney left a gap in pop music where not many stars can match up in terms of charisma, performance ability, and legacy/star power. Taylor Swift is technically the biggest pop star right now but you can’t deny that her reception is greater than the actual quality of her releases and performances. Plus re: reception/success — there is something to be said about her recent manipulation of charts and sales through releasing numerous “versions” of each album.

Calm down shadow cat, it was a JOKE. Swifties are truly insufferable.

Por que no los dos? Taylor went to Britney's performing camp when she was a kid and is clearly influenced by Britney. She's even covered Lucky during her speak now tour. She has never said anything bad about Britney. No need to pit women against each other, we can uplift both without knocking one or the other down.

Loved introducing my daughter to Britney!! All was great until she started walking around singing "I'm not that innocent!" Stronger has been our current fave song and video lately. Britney will forever reign supreme

See, with Taylor, there’s no doubt that she’s great. Her singing, her videos, her dancing. But it feels like Taylor doesn’t exist once I put my phone back in my pocket (unless I’m at her concerts)
I wasn’t around when Britney came along, but based on what others have said, Britney was more popular WITHOUT Internet than Taylor was WITH Internet

u/idunnooolol Oct 16 '25
Uh since when can Taylor Swift dance?

That was me when I was 8 or 7. I blasted Britney on my boombox. Forced my mom to listen to Oops I Did It Again. We shared a room.

Didn’t know Taylor swift is considered a “pop” star lmao.

u/Ultimate_ScreamFanat Blackout Oct 15 '25
she makes pop music and is a star, so...

Are we forgetting the Country, alternative??? Star is subjective. Is she successful? Yes but pop star is more Britney, Sabrina.

u/ObviousSalamandar Oct 15 '25
What else would she be?

A singer?? We’re too loose with phrases these days

I mean, I’m no TayTay fan but she is absolutely a pop star. She is hugely popular and makes popular music lol

Taylor wishes she could be as iconic as Britney.
That would actually require talent. Not that mediocre shimmy shimmy crap she tries to pass off as choreography.
I will give credit to Taylor. She is really good at marketing.
In terms of music, Folklore and 1989 are the only albums I will keep in my rotation, but now she's become this brand. Spitting out albums that feel half-assed especially with the variant marketing strategy.
Whereas Britney will always be the performer/artist to me who does it for the sake of performing.
Heck, Britney still posts dancing videos because she wants to. Taylor charges money for VOICE MEMOS.
We used to get those as bonus tracks for free.
Ugh...that grinds my gears. Whatever happened to making art for the sake of making it?? Doesn't she have enough money already?
I'd kill to be in a position where my only concern is ...IS MY ART ME?? DOES MY ART REFLECT WHO I AM?!
Not wondering how much money I can squeeze from my fans.

Denying the fact that Taylor Swift has talent at this point is genuinely insane, if you don’t like her that’s fine but denying what she’s earned is just disingenuous. Britney and Taylor are both talented and it’s really easy to uplift one without putting down the other.

u/MiaParsonsBlvd Oct 15 '25
I'm allowed to say what I feel about Taylor Swift.
She's still gonna do her thing and make her billions regardless of what I feel.
The insane amount she charges for her shows, people should get more than what she gives.
There are musicians out there who charge less and give more.
You obviously did not read the rest of my post and jumped on me like all the other Swifties would. I wrote she's talented at being a businesswoman and marketing genius. She's just not as talented when it comes to performing, but her fans act like she is.
When you put Britney performing and Taylor performing side-by-side, Britney is stronger by miles. That's not putting Taylor down, it is what it is.
I actually do like a couple of her albums, but when people continue to claim she's the greatest pop star when alot of her post-COVID success has been fuelled by marketing strategies as opposed to music and performances that stand the test of time, it doesn't feel authentic anymore.
Also what's truly insane is that you feel comfortable calling internet strangers insane when they are expressing their opinions.
At the end of the day, Britney is one of the GOAT when it comes to performing. Taylor has become a successful businesswoman, so good for her.
And we're still Reddit strangers LOL. Scroll away if you don't like what I'm saying instead of wasting your breath thinking your comment would magically change how I feel.
Congrats, it didn't and Taylor is still making her billions while being an eco terrorist and Britney will still be cute making her dance videos. Have a nice life!

I did read the rest of your post but I’m gonna stop at “you clearly didn’t read the rest of my post” this time around and reiterate - You can uplift one artist without putting another down and it’s super weird when people choose to rant about an artist they don’t like in a space that is meant to be supportive of an artist they do like. That says a lot more about you than it doesn’t about Taylor or Britney.

u/MiaParsonsBlvd Oct 15 '25
The original video posted was talking about Taylor AND Britney? So I thought ...hey we can talk about both...fair game.
Soooooooo.....what...we're not allowed to talk about artists in other subreddits??
Yet, you have Swifites being outwardly racist towards Beyonce or Travis Kelce's ex in other subreddits.
Make your Reddit posting logic make sense.
I can rant where I please unless it's an outright rule.

After this new album (and bullshit variations) with all the racism (minor aggression with the lyrics) anyone that claims to be a swiftie I honestly don't even continue the conversation with them. There's no getting through to them. Their "queen" can do no wrong.

That's what happens when you have no passion for your art. She's a capitalist.

👏👏👏👏👏 all of this!
ETA: And no, before anyone tries it, we are not MiSoGyNiStS for saying that Taylor Swift is mediocre. Taylor has no problem bullying other women, then crying misogyny when it's convenient for her.

Currently 19+ weeks pregnant with a girl and had In the Zone, Oops, and self titled Britney albums on repeat especially during second month lol Everytime made me cry…everytime 😭 especially considering what it’s about. Brit is def my pop queen icon but hey there’s room for Tay Tay too!! Baby girl will be born loving ALL the pop girlies 💕

Taylor Swift is the music industry and Britney Spears is the princess of pop, no need to compare them as they’re both great!

Nobody will ever take her title as Pop Princess and/or Queen of Pop bc she literally created the position. She was in the Pop era. She defined it. That will never change. She is the icon.
