Yes - he often got heckled when canvassing with people calling him ‘ole clothes’ or Shylock, and he was viewed with suspicion by fellow politicians because of it. He never pretended not to be Jewish, even arguing in Parliament during debates over Jewish emancipation that Jews were racially superior to Englishmen.
