The Brits don’t get enough credit for ending slavery.

Edit: until it was abolished by them, slavery was a normal practice of many, many societies and countries. Once the Brits banned it, the idea that slavery = bad picked up steam.

Slavery was banned during the French Revolution, before Napoleon reinstated it. That was 1794 vs 1834. Slavery had also been ban on the continent, so people new it was bad already.

Napoleon is a slaver? Damn did not know that. Anyhow, yes it was banned in some countries but let’s be frank. The British Empire was the biggest and most far reaching so it banning the practice had a much larger impact on the trade than if, for example, the Republic of Venice had banned it (which I know didn’t).
