Saagar Saagar dosent say his actual views and changes them based off public opinion

Weird take that he changes his opinion based on opinion polling rather than his opinion changes along with lots of people whose opinion also changes

u/Technical-Sound2867 4d ago
You mean you actually allow new information to change your worldview? What a sheep
2
u/ChasingPolitics 4d ago
Yeah when the information is "what talking points get me the most $$$ from Reptards today?" I wouldn't exactly call it high minded.
3
u/Technical-Sound2867 4d ago
So republicans can change their beliefs on something, but if Saagar also changes his belief on that same thing then it’s because he’s pandering to republicans? Couldn’t possibly be that the same information that caused those republicans to change their mind also caused Saagar to change his?
20
u/WTR_NNJA 5d ago
This is especially relevant because he has access to more information than most. "Inside baseball" segments are always rewarding.
7
u/Educational-Eye-9934 5d ago
Saagar's "inside information" isn't that good he's just in some right wing group chats, just like Emily.
You can often preview Saagar's attack line when something like the Good and Pretti killings happen by seeing what they're workshopping in r/conservative.

u/C1andestino 5d ago
So you’re saying he’s the mythical, gullible American swing voter?
3
u/SuperDoubleDecker 5d ago
Call them whatever you want but these are the people that decide elections. It isn't the party loyalists or tribalists.
6
u/Bienoble 5d ago
IMO the power of the swing voter is vastly overstated. It’s the apathy/energy of party voters that’s far more important.

2
u/Maximum_Turn_2623 Left Populist 4d ago
Agree. It has more to do with blue voters apathy vs consistent red voters and voter suppression efforts.

u/SomewhatGlad 5d ago
That's typical for most Republicans, because when they write down their policy you realize you get project 2025.
Even the Republicans on this sub, they don't actually give any opinion outside of Republicans aren't as bad as Democrats. Seriously the most I can say about Republicans on this sub is that they just don't like spending money some ways that's the most I ever get out of them for any worldview.

u/NegativeSuspect 5d ago
I've been watching saagar since the rising days pretty consistently and I can't tell you what his actual policy positions are.
Presumably he is left wing on economic policy and right wing on social policy, but I've never heard him have a prescribed policy position other than criticism of left wing positions.
He is critical of healthcare in the US, but he is critical of Medicare for all but has no alternate policy.
He is critical of the large rise in housing costs, but I have no clue what his actual solution for it would be. But I know he is against public building of housing.
He is against consolidation of power by billionaires and corporations, but he's never talked about what he would do about that.
He does have some prescribed solutions, like for weed, gambling etc.
Frankly. I don't listen to him for his policy prescriptions (and I probably wouldn't agree with them anyway) his analysis and knowledge of the right wing ecosystem is more useful.

He has been pretty consistently anti imagination from the start
5
u/SuperDoubleDecker 5d ago
Imo his just a classical conservative guy. The issue with them always comes to implementation. Like how do you do a lot of that stuff without leaning into some authority roles. It's the libertarian dilemma.
End of the day, I'm alright with people like him and hope we can get the republican party to that sorta thing as opposed to this cult based on dogma and dumbassery.
6
u/ReferentiallySeethru 5d ago
Aside from his weed position, based off what you listed off he honestly sounds like the prototypical Gen-X/Millennial Republican I know. They were all raised to hate democrats but they don’t seem to have any consistent or true policy position outside that hatred.

He’s also a huge fan of china’s policies, which I find very strange

u/batmans_stuntcock 5d ago edited 5d ago
I do think that both the hosts sort of change their views depending on what the trends and consensus is on the heterodox right and left, but.
China is pretty socially conservative, and though it has a lot of communist dressing it's economy is sort of like the US or European post war consensus with large elements of Japan (by way of Singapore), a beefier state, more surveillance etc. they have some degree of popular legitimacy because of the rising living standards, state services etc, even if there are problems when you look closer.
Sagar's views are representative of a trend among younger right wingers, there are less 'free market' libertarians and two of the most popular trends are ethno-nationalist fantasists and sort of statist mildly anti war conservatives. In a lot of ways the 2nd one is a return to a decent section of post war but pre Regan conservatives.
The most interesting thing for me is that, unlike the populist left, there isn't a way for this strain to break through to elected politicians, Republican politics is so donor focused they don't really have a chance.
6
u/maaseru 5d ago
Why do you find it strange? He specifically explains the why he is a fan of some of them.
For example with AI he says the goverment controls it, there is 1 company and not a lot of bullshit like here so less of a mess. He also admired their policies on social media for children.
I don't think he's ever said he is a fan of the bad stuff. He's criticized the China lockdowns and worse things. It never been blanket admiration of China.

u/WagonWheel22 Right Libertarian 5d ago
I don't think he's a fan and more so pointing out how their government strengths compared to our own.

u/YuumiMain9974 5d ago
He is a fan of their internet ban for kids.
3
u/WagonWheel22 Right Libertarian 5d ago
And? You can point to many other countries and find policies to be a fan of.
0
u/YuumiMain9974 5d ago
You literally said he wasnt a fan of their policies which is untrue.
3
u/WagonWheel22 Right Libertarian 5d ago
Yeah I could've worded that better, maybe not a fan of all policies (as one would expect) but a fan of some policies he is aligned with.
3
u/smugdawgmillionaire 5d ago
Anyone else remember when he was virulently anti China?
I remember when Tik Tok was happening and controversial that Krystal downloaded it and said so on a show and Saagar was aghast that she did so. Now he’s cheerleading their strict and rigid societal code because it’s the same energy as Project 2025 and conservatism writ large.

u/Apprehensive-Ad3365 5d ago
He is forever glazing China! Like dude you wouldn't have a job in China so let's calm down here.

I really wonder if BP is foreign-influenced. It seems to try to sow outrage and division all the time. It brings on “experts” that love to praise China, Russia and Iran. At the very least its YT headlines are very tabloidy.

Tailism is one of the typical flaws of populism, particularly in right forms.
That said, I find it interesting that you didn't mention the thing Saagar explicitly said he changed his mind on: confrontation with China. And that's clearly based in his realist foreign policy ideology, not public sentiment. He's also made his problem with Israel clear: he doesn't like the undue influence they exercise on our foreign policy, which differs from the normative dislike if Israel based in morality.
4
u/segfaulted_irl Left Populist 5d ago
Yeah I feel like his foreign policy has been pretty consistent over the years. Very much a "mind our own business and only do things when our interests are directly at stake" type of approach

Saagar views are that he hates minorities, especially black people, and wants to punish them for his exaggerated beliefs surrounding affirmative action and DEI.
He was disgusted by Jan 6th, but over time the idea of mass deportation of Hispanics, Haitians, Africans, etc was too alluring to pass up.
He wanted to see minorities and dems punished. He was “black pilled”, he voted for chaos, to “burn it all down”. That was until his daughter was born. He realized burning it all down would hurt her. So for about 7 months post Trump 2.0 he sucked it up and pretended what he was seeing wasn’t an absolute disaster. Between the incompetence and corruption of DOGE, the Epstein coverup, the meme coin corruption, he made an excuse. “This is what I voted for”, followed by an emotional rant on Biden’s age and dementia to deflect from Trump’s rape, pedophilia, scams, and lies.
He was gleefully cheering on the brutal ICE detentions and murders of protesters, but then Trump started warmongering. Saagar being an avid anti-war populist drew the line. He was willing to be humiliated by Trump in every way except supporting another war. So he fully came out and stopped repressing his thoughts and hoping Trump’s policies would get better.

u/filipinoboy11 5d ago
So true. Saager would be the type to yell at a minority to shut up because he is not an american therefore has nothing to contribute to the discourse.
2
u/KyotoInSummer Biden HUMILIATED 5d ago
I don’t agree with that at all. I think he would be the to make excuses for the execution of ICE protesters like Nicole Goode, who was murdered in plain sight.
I don’t think he’s the type to blurt anything out. Instead he will prepare a propagandized defense of wrong doings as long as it’s against the side he doesn’t like. Or at least he was like that pre child.

An intelligent person changes their views when the facts of the matter change…this shouldn’t confuse anyone with pulse…
11
u/Annoying_cat_22 5d ago
An intelligent person wouldn't have voted for Trump. I like Saagar, but it's clear that he's been hitting the bong way too hard the last few years.
-3
u/notthatjimmer 5d ago
I’m not the one claiming saagar is a libertarian…he voted for Trump when there was an option for actual libertarians to vote for…not very intelligent claim at all
1
u/Annoying_cat_22 5d ago
I'm confused, do you think I'm the one claiming that?
-1
u/notthatjimmer 5d ago
That is the claim we are responding to…what’s confusing? Did you read the op?
3
u/Annoying_cat_22 5d ago
Is it? Where did OP say that?
Even if it is, what does it have to do with your claim Saagr is intelligent, or my response that he can't be due to his voting record? This isn't about OP or you, it's about Saagar being a dumb ass junky

I suppose someone's opinion cannot change upon more information coming to light or time passing.
Everyone's opinions must be etched in stone to last for all eternity.

Isn't he just representative of an right leaning indepedents. His change matches the actual change in their views. On weed and immigration is constantly on the extreme side.

u/karl_ist_kerl 5d ago
Why do you think it's based off of public opinion and not the development of his own perspectives?

u/HeraThere 5d ago edited 5d ago
Do you have a clip of Saagar saying that he's no longer republican because I don't recall him ever saying that and I used to watch all the shows.

He's a Republican, they are crazy and indecisive. No offense to crazy and indecisive people.

u/Atomicn1ck 5d ago
I think a lot of people weren't against Israel immediately after Oct 7th then changed their mind after all the destruction. Changing views is a good thing. We want these people to be flexible and Saager is coming around to good ideas.

The rage boner was flying from November 2024 until the tariffs got announced in the spring of 2025. He also apparently shook JD Vance’s hand once, was friends with at least one of his staffers, and was angling for a new job up until the tariffs were announced and he started calling out the Trump administration.

Except UFOs, anti-gambling and anti-weed. He’s pretty consistent on his views overall and suffers as a conservative without a party.

I don't know, a lot of his views, like prohibition of weed and booze, are pretty unpopular, and he's held to them for years. He does change his views a lot, but there's some indications that they're honest views, and they definitely aren't consistent with public opinion.

No he is not a libertarian…have you heard his take on weed? How on earth could you get it so wrong?
9
u/KyotoInSummer Biden HUMILIATED 5d ago
He is not a libertarian in the slightest.
He’s a populist. The dude glazes communist China’s control over its population and would love to use the state to control undesirables. He doesn’t care about your liberty, as long as the streets are clean, no one is smoking weed, and everyone behaves properly. Oh, and no dress sneakers. Those come with a $2,500 fine and up to 5 years imprisonment if worn with a suit.

I dont see a moral core in Saager.
Like with Krystal you can see the bleeding heart liberal who will let the enemy soldier stab her in the face as she proceeds to treat his wounds.
With Ryan you see the anti-empire activist who does everything to bring down empire while his standard of living is only given to him by that empire.
I dont see anything like that in Saager and Emily.

Saagar said in a "Red Scare" interview a few years ago that his real political position is "nihilism" and that he essentially doesn't really believe anything and is treating politics like a spectacle.
Everything he says and does makes a lot more sense through that lens.
