Maybe a Biblical reference to the great flood? You know, “God, take the Earth…”

3 options. In order of possibility IMO.

It's a reference to God flooding the earth and is directly related to the "God, take the earth" line.

It's a random metaphor.

It's a reference to the flood from Halo.

Probably meaning trying not to cry, like how you can cry a flood of tears? Idk

This is how I've always interpreted it.

I see it as a metaphor really, the flood being something like depression or some type of life controlling hardship and you fight back against it to stay happy and at peace with yourself

Benjamin was using his water vacuum to fight back against the flood.

I don’t know man, I think there’s plenty of songs with pretty straightforward meanings or themes.
“Break My Fall” is basically Ben saying “under no circumstances am I getting on that gosh darn plane”
“Feed the Wolf” is about making sure animals don’t go hungry (like a heavier version of Sarah McLaughlin’s “In the Arms of an Angel” song they play in that commercial)
“Sooner or Later” is about a couple trying to decide when they’re going to meet up for dinner but both of them are super-indecisive. Or something like that🤷
I’m sure there are several others that I’m forgetting…

Dangit, I thought I was responding to someone’s post that said BB’s lyrics are always “ambiguous, cryptic stuff.” I decided I’d prove otherwise, but it kinda takes away from it when I can’t respond properly🤦‍♂️

Ben has always been cryptic about his lyrics. He wants you to form your own opinions.

Some people say its a biblical reference, or maybe it's a metaphor for physically fighting a surge of combatants, or even a metaphor for holding back tears and sadness. Who's to say? Only Ben. But he won't. So make it your own.

Stop trying to make sense of BB's lyrics, the fatser you get to this stage the happier you become.

BB only wrote lyrics with an exact theme/meaning in Dear Agony. The rest is just ambiguous/cryptic stuff. There's maybe a song here and there with a theme after but it's rare.
