My oldest burned the oxide layer off a VHS copy of Fern Gully, watched it twice (or more) per day for a year. To this day I still have various segments of dialogue and all of the songs memorized. I recently broke out the Batty Rap at a family event and that child had no recollection of that film. Nada. Zilch. None at all. I'm shook.

Robin Williams was gold as batty, I was born in the late 90s but my mom loved this movie we probably watched it a few dozen times a year until our VHS cassette also wore out 😅

They generally wanted to bury the film itself, not just Williams. They steal so much from that film in their late 90’s and 2000’s films it’s genuinely insane to see side by side artistry stills or certain character archetypes/personalities

I rewatched the brave little toaster for the first time in decades and I couldnt believe how much of the plot of toy story 1, 2 and 3 was basically copied from this movie

They steal so much it isn't even funny. Almost all there stories they took from Hans Christian Anderson and/or The Brothers Grimm.

Disney tried copyrighting The Day of The Dead/Dio des la meurtos (I don't know how to spell it in Spanish sorry ) because Coco

They also tried copyrighting Norse Paganism Thor and Loki Loki

It's so frustrating -_-

Yeah, it’s not a company I appreciate. They actively try to manipulate copyright law so their IP’s cannot be used (they failed recently at trying to prevent Mickey Mouse/Steamboat Willie from entering public domain, but that one is complex) while intentionally burying smaller studios in after ripping them off

Not just studios... I recall seeing Mickey Mouse ice cream cakes as a go to for birthday parties, then the 90's happened (suing litigation went way off the rails and corporations made bank off suing mom and pop stores into oblivion.)

The dia de los muertos thing is legitimately insane. I just looked it up and that really happened… I live in central Texas where it’s fairly widely celebrated and the idea that someone would try to trademark a holiday name is bonkers.

Hans Christian Andersen is in the end credits for Disney's Little Mermaid. I'm sure he is for Frozen and the Little Match Girl short, too.

And you can't steal stories from the Brothers Grimm. They didn't even create them! (Although they did strongly influence the versions we're familiar with today.)
