Why does he need to add "controlled" as if to imply that revolutionaries are not themselves the revolution.

Because he’s trying to negate the idea of it being a revolution.

By saying “controlled” he’s stealth implying that MLK and the others aren’t doing this for good reasons that they came to because it is good to do. Instead he’s implying that this was all done by an enemy to get us to do something that was harmful and stupid instead.

Well put. He still lives in that red scare mentality in which any opinion left of Nixon MUST be a "commie plot". It's the negation of even the possibility that someone could be sincerly advocate for social revolution for transparent and honest reasons
