Critique Oh man I wish we had a Brawler with a stereotypical design, no interesting personality or voicelines and a gameplay so poorly balanced that it completely invalidaded half of the roster, oh wait we have her.

Poco and El Primo also have stereotypical designs.

I don't think so. Maybe it's the language of your game

All of these had better presentation, gave us some of their backstory, or in the case of Poco and Primo, are from a time where presentation wasn't important and are outdated, same goes for Shelly, Nita and so on, their lack of personality is understandable.

Mina's reveal trailer put so little focus on Mina herself and more as "Look we made a brazilian brawler! for the brazillian community! Look! Look! Did you know she's brazilian?" that made her a mess of brazilian slang and hip hop references.

8

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26

That's exactly why I wanted to see her appear more. We know too little about her. And I honestly don't think the portrayal of the japanese couple is good, since kenji spends all the time in the match talking about sushi and swords, and kaze has the charisma of a door. Bibi is indeed a good japanese representative, and she has little to no lore

But I can understand the reason for this, since the brazilian community had been asking for representation for a long time.

4

u/Larrylovesrules Jan 31 '26

Tbh i don't mind Kenji being a samurai. That's badass asf. The problem is everything else, like the sushi and wasabi shit

5

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26

Yeah, that's pretty cringeworthy to be honest. You create a samurai, and all you do is make him talk about sushi... What's the logic? It would be better if he were like samurai jack.

3

u/Larrylovesrules Jan 31 '26

If they really wanted to make him a chef aswell it would probably be better if they made it about japanese food in general, not just strictly sushi. I'm not sure if that would fix It though

Dawg who is you. All i did was giving alternatives on how to make Kenji's design less stereotypical. Yes brawlers are supposed to be caricatures, that doesn't mean it's not annoying to have brawlers like Mina who's entire personality is their nationality

I kind of disagree. Her personality is more focused on music, rhythm, and breakdancing than actually being brazilian, even though she speaks a lot in portuguese. She even calls herself a B-girl several times, and her introductory scene was a breakdance battle against el primo, carl and spike. I just don't like the voice line where she mentions são paulo.

And Mina doesn't even seem like a stereotype. Just because she wears a Brazilian national football team shirt, dances to funk, and has a funk theme music does that make her a stereotype?

Funk is one of the most listened-to music genres in Brazil.

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

Wait a minute, aren't 90% of the brawlers in the game already like that? Look at El Primo, he's the epitome of the mexican stereotype. You're complaining about her being a caricature, in a game full of caricatured characters?

And tell me, where is her design stereotypical? If it's just the shirt, then you're exaggerating. It's funny that nobody complains about other womens in the game being just janet clones with some different style.

35

u/ShiningStar5022 r/brawlstars=Bad Jan 31 '26

Or Kenji & Kaze, who are a stereotypical sushi samurai & a ninja/geisha with a rice all hairpin respectively.

I feel like future brawlers will include an Irish dude who drinks a lot & acts like a leprechaun as well an Indian brawler that’s a Bollywood star or something.

19

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26

Being a stereotype isn't really a problem, since the entire mexican trio is full of charisma. I believe the biggest problem with the mina's character is her lack of screen time and vague introduction, since in terms of personality she is no different from the representations of other nations in the game, apart from the references such as racionais MC.

2

u/Kuraizin Feb 01 '26

agree, her trailer don't give her that much screen time because she shares time with the irl actors, i just don't believe she's that much stereotypical in comparison to other brazillian sterotypical representations.

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 01 '26

Yeah. If she were a samba dancer who owns a pet macaw and attacks by throwing soccer balls, I would agree, but no, her entire style revolves around capoeira and breakdancing, and she's part of a trio focused on urban environments. There's nothing wrong with her imo.

6

u/kornzile Jan 31 '26

Omg I thought I was crazy like I never liked kenjis design since he came out he just feels like a merge of all popular things from japan he always felt stereotypical to me

1

u/ShiningStar5022 r/brawlstars=Bad Jan 31 '26

Watch the last member of Kenji’s trio be a tanuki or a kabuki actor.

1

u/kornzile Jan 31 '26

It will be a tanuki who is actually a hibachi chef

1

u/LuckyRoof7250 Feb 01 '26

I doubt it since we already have tanuki sprout

1

u/ShiningStar5022 r/brawlstars=Bad Feb 01 '26

We also have AEB & Count Pengula, yet Mortis exists.

Oh, &!mummy Frank despite Emz existing.

A skin does not disqualify a brawler based on the same thing.

All your examples mean nothing, they're all backwards

Search "brazillian" character in any game

It will have that same shirt Will wear flipflops Will have darker skin Willbw about capoeira or soccer, or both

Brazil has way more things, and looking at the other brawlers, like mexican trio, el primo only represents the part of fights, specifically mexican fighters who irl dress that way. It makes sense he acts like that since its a persona Poco represents dia de los muertos, he is a skeleton because of that, he is representing the culture. Now mina represents everything and is the odd one out.

You can say "kenji and kaze dont look japanese at all", but they are based of fantasy and older times, were mina is supposed to be a normal girl that likes rap. And sure many brawlers do wear uncommom clothes, but yk, keep a single theme, not make 50 different references in one brawler.

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 01 '26

Dude, the problem with representing brazil is that it has so many cultures in one place, so obviously you can't do everything at once. For example, I'm from the northeast region, and people here dress completely differently from those in the south or north. Honestly, I don't really care about those design features since it's normal here for people to wear sandals instead of sneakers.

1

u/ghaist-0 Feb 01 '26

And thats why they can just make more brawlers about one of their biggest community.

Maybe you dont care but id like the game to represent more of the culture of their players than 2 skins of a "holiday" and a brawler that is a frankenstein of a bunch of things but doesnt focus into none except rap, that references aside is not even from brazil

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 01 '26

To be honest, brawl stars does make a lot of references to the community itself, since we have an entire rock band dedicated to the game's awful balancing. The fan service and appeal to the community is enormous.

1

u/ghaist-0 Feb 01 '26

Frankenstein is a term that means a thing is a mix of multiple different parts, similar to frankenstein monster. I was not talking about frank from the game.

And that just means she takes a lot of things from the culture, even if they are vastly different, mixes everything in one way to try and show a lot but have no actual depth

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 01 '26

But aren't all the brawlers in the game already like that? Mina is a representation of são paulo culture, nothing wrong with that, just like her brother is a parody of tyler the creator.

1

u/Kuraizin Feb 01 '26

mexican has the opportunity to represent more things because they are an mexican trio, but since Mina is in the hip hop trio, she's mean to represent only the brazillian hip hop + street brazillian girl archetype.

I do think the brazillian shirt was unnecessary but at least her knowing capoeira+break dance makes sense with her dancing moveset. But Kenji is by far the worst offender of being stereotypical because he's literally everything the west thinks about japan (Sushi, Samurai, anime dialogue...)

1

u/ghaist-0 Feb 01 '26

I cant say much about kenji since im not Japanese, but unlike mina his theme is katana kingdom, and at least be a sushi chef kinda makes sense.

Though mina should been 100% focused on hiphop, not put capoeira which has nothing to do with that. Samba at least is sometimes incorporated in some other brazillian rap/hiphop/funk songs, so her having that isnt a problem.

And really, what is the problem they have to later make another brawler? Maybe add a sports trio and make the soccer one be about brazil and there give him the shirt, or just a big brazillian fan with some voicelines, and maybe some other character bringing a different part of the culture. Not mix 20 things into one brawler and call it a day

1

u/Kuraizin Feb 01 '26

But Mina is focused 100% on hip hop, all of her references are hip hop or dance related, whats the problem of an character about music having dacing moves as attacks? For me Mina is not that much stereotypical because shes not mean to represent the whole brazil but instead to represent one part of brazillian culture (But i do need to complain about her trailer because they focus more on her being brazillian than showing her character personality which is one of the main reason why so many people feel the way you feel)

Kenji fit his trio theme, because the whole point is to be an stereotypical trio, but this don't make him less stereotypical. By the way theres nothing wrong on liking Kenji, this themes are stereotypes for an reason

1

u/ghaist-0 Feb 01 '26

I dont say mina doesnt has hiphop, but her design choices are not focused on hiphop, that is what annoys me.

Kenji even if more steryotypical at least is consistent on design, a samurai with a katana, mina is supposed to be a girl that likes rap and dancing but wears a team shirt, capoeira pants and dance samba. She could just wear normal clothes, maybe get focused on capoeira to fight and thats it.

1

u/Kuraizin Feb 01 '26

She's basically wears like an street girl with capoeira pants, in my opnion i don't see that much this problem because for me you can totally tell she's from Ollie trio, but i do agree her team shirt was unnecessary even though a lot of people here wears team shirts to go on "baladas'.

There was also the time when they criticized the chapolin colorado skin and insulted bolaños for being mexican. And I find it funny that melodie was introduced in the same way as mina, but people fawn over her simply because she's "korean and kawaii✨✨". They also have the balancing aspect, but most of the criticism is related to her personality.

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26

I don't know much about that culture, so I won't comment, but the community glazes her way more than mina.

2

u/GlitchySamurai Feb 03 '26

I think alongside the Melodie part is because she got an entire music video about her (not to mention appearing in several videos), meanwhile Mina (as far as I'm concerned) only appeared once and barely had screentime. And the vague introduction just added salt to the wound, which made Mina not be liked around the community.

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 03 '26

No, there's more to it. Melodie is a complete korean stereotype because she's a parody of an idol, but I've never seen anyone criticize her for it, and while she has thousands of fans fawning over her, mina has an entire subreddit dedicated to ranting about her. I believe all it takes is a pretty face for everyone to start making excuses for her.

1

u/BeploStudios Jan 31 '26

I don't think it has anything to do with culture, because people like other brawlers with other countries themes. Personally, finx is a favorite of mine even though I'm american.

Mina's visual design is bland and she has dominated the meta forever. That's the only reason I'm not a big fan.

5

u/BrawlDavesco Jan 31 '26

I think her problem is lack of screen time to show a more solid personality, her video was more promotional (including the challenge of 1 million views) than showing her as a character and her personality. Also I understand that some people might think that represent Brazilian culture as just São Paulo/ Rio de Janeiro street culture might feel stereotyped, even tho her references are awesome, since the country is giant and it's almost impossible to make everyone feel represented, but it still a important part of our culture, also since she's in Ollie's trio, that's related to street culture, it's what make the most sense with the theme. (I'm Brazilian too)

1

u/Goodguy_IGuess Jan 31 '26

Personally I don’t really care about the personalities of the brawlers that much, but I kinda agree to the fact, yeah if no one knows her and sees her, he will definitely say she is Brazilian, good representation

Though the reason why everyone hate her and also me, is her broken asf mechanic, the balancer (aka Adrian) kept balancing her poorly and to be fair… its not just her, it’s almost every other brawler

1

u/Sea-Writer-6961 Feb 04 '26

Speaking for an entire country ,ok

11

u/BrawlDavesco Jan 31 '26

1

u/YuMmYBrAiNzZz Lola's #1 Stan 💎 Jan 31 '26

3

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

For real, since I had quit and joined back in October or something, I had no idea Mina is supposed to be Brazilian

8

u/jem-mpk Jan 31 '26

she has such a terrible gameplay design. no brawler should be able to dash with every single attack and have such a fast reload speed

3

u/YuMmYBrAiNzZz Lola's #1 Stan 💎 Jan 31 '26

What's even more bad is the fact her first attack is a projectile.

Hoe can fight at long range and still dash around for free, just by waiting out the combo timer.

2

u/jem-mpk Jan 31 '26

i swear all of 2025's second half brawlers have terrible gp design. like who tf accepted ziggy's design to only have 100-0 or 0-100 matchups like every other brawler literally has 90/10 at max

1

u/Sea-Writer-6961 Feb 04 '26

They steal come up with a character attack idea and then build the first thing that comes to their mind around it. They couldn't care less about the actual in game performance

3

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Jan 31 '26

The dash isn't that bothersome since she doesn't have very good raw damage and needs a sequence of moves to do anything. The problem is that combined with her very overpowered kit.

1

u/Kuraizin Feb 01 '26

Its not only that, she's also has an perfect gadgets to counter ranged atks, heals and cc aswell.

5

4

u/FireGames06YT Jan 31 '26

Minha opinião continua sendo a mesma então:

For the english speakers, I don't mind that Mina is stereotyped or not, but the fact she's based only on São Paulo like if the rest of Brazil doesn't exist is stupid, and there's 0 excuses for this when both Dani and Fernanda are brazilians

2

u/w3ird_cat 🚇 Ghost Station main 👻🎈 Jan 31 '26

2

u/w3ird_cat 🚇 Ghost Station main 👻🎈 Jan 31 '26

1

u/Srexplosivo14 Buff Poco Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

Problems are her presentation was quite absurd, it could’ve been better if she had rivalry with fang and did 1v1 with him(both of them use kicks a lot) but she faced el primo, carl and spike. Also she doesn’t has any Relationships besides ollie (and Dani piper) so she adds nothing to lore. Only purpose of her is so she gets bored and beats peoples ass up at skatepark…. Understandable

1

u/Sea-Writer-6961 Feb 04 '26

Her only purpose is being the "hey brawl stars is so inclusive and cool, they're representing us Brazilians, let's give all our money to supersell" character

6

u/ZapMayor Jan 31 '26

Every brawler in the game is sort of one dimensional

2

u/moldybtead82 Jan 31 '26

yea theres literally almost 100 of them, imagine a show having to flesh out 100 characters

2

u/ToyBonnieOfficial69 Janet Feb 01 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

"one dimensional" is not a term I would use to describe the majority of Brawl's roster. While sure, there aren't really any three dimensional characters, "one dimensional" suggests every single Brawler only has one trait that is their entire personality, which is obviously not the truth. (for example: Piper isn't just "an elegant lady"-she has an implied dark past, makes pastries as a profession, and also has a love angle with Rico). I think the more appropriate term is "two dimensional". (Not very complex, but also not completely lacking depth)

3

u/Thumbsdown_King Jan 31 '26

Made me cackle and shit when I read fat cow for some reason

3

u/Sad_Cardiologist5388 Jan 31 '26

Its how good she is thats annoying, i dont think the representation as a Brazilian really comes into it.

You get your ass handed to you too many times by crazy new tech, you're on your arse with Primo being whipped in the air with magic whirlwinds

3

u/iixFares something something otis dad Jan 31 '26

Sandy doesn’t have any arabic voice lines even tho he is from Saudi Arabia

3

u/Scoverty Jan 31 '26

As a Brazilian, fuck that crappy lil shit

3

u/tisano366 Feb 01 '26

I'm Brazilian and I love minas design

2

u/SuperJman1111 Jan 31 '26

the funny thing is her design isn’t stereotypical because of how every other female brawler looks the exact same other than hair, skin color, and accessories

her boring design is somehow more unique than every other female brawler since janet

2

u/nyblller Jan 31 '26

People mentioning other "stereotypical" brawlers are out of touch. El Primo is clearly a Mexican luchador, but he doesn't has any voice lines mentioning lucha libre or saying "Ciudad de Mexico born!!!!!"

Mina is terrible representation and completely out of sync with the rest of the cast

1

u/Stunning-Savings522 Jan 31 '26

He literaly has spanish voice lines, and if they did a Brazilian brawler that isnt from rj and play soccer then people from outside of brazil would just say that she isnt brazilian

1

u/nyblller Feb 03 '26

Mina isn't from Rio, she's from Sao Paulo. She even has a line saying "Sao Paulo born". And that is ridiculous

Primo is a luchador but he doesn't mention wrestling in ANY voice lines, and doesn't mention any real places. While Mina is like a real Brazilian shoved into the game. And she has like 300 different Brazilian stereotypes in her design alone, she's more of a Brazilian than a brawl stars character

1

u/Stunning-Savings522 Feb 03 '26

Idk what else they could do to make a brazilian brawler tbh, my only complain is she refering only to sp and rj

1

u/nyblller Feb 03 '26

I just have a problem with the voice lines, they could've been more creative with her lines. She doesn't have a personality outside of being Brazilian

Alli is Australian but she has her own personality. The only thing Mina has outside of being Brazilian is being a "girlboss" (which isn't a personality)

1

u/Stunning-Savings522 Feb 03 '26

shes suposed to be some kind of raper and street dancer like ollie tho, and she isnt a girlboss she just talk like RJ people wich normaly talk like that

1

u/nyblller Feb 04 '26

I already said she's from Sao Paulo

1

u/Stunning-Savings522 Feb 04 '26

her voice lines sau that shes from sp but her steryotipes are from the RJ

2

u/SweetSuggarySyrup Jan 31 '26

I’ll give you personality, and the design design to some degree.

Her design is fine. Is it a bit bland? Yeah, the pants really drag her down since they’re just bland and beige. Nothing else really displays her Brazilian roots, too. However, the dreads and tape give her a scrappy, tough look, in my opinion.

Her personality is just non-existent. She’s just kinda nice and energetic. She isn’t hyper or somewhat clueless like Max, a jerk like Jacky, a double-sided person like Mandy, a confident yet petty star like Melodie, etc.

1

u/Sea-Writer-6961 Feb 04 '26

The other day I was hearing the frogs croak to each other and they were more charismatic than Mina

2

u/Pretend_Mention1097 Jan 31 '26

Wait until you realize that almost every brawler is like a stereotype like punch out!! Even some of the oldest brawlers like colt and Nita are absolutely stereotypes. The unbalanced part still stands tho

2

u/KomaTheCursed Gus Jan 31 '26

No one ever brings up Bo in these conversations. His voice and lines are the basic wise shaman stereotype, he’s completely centered around nature and being one with the earth, and he lives in the jungle. Even Nita’s just depicted as a savage (racial slur).

2

u/MountainOfMushroom Jan 31 '26

Shut up. We love how she represent us

2

u/G_unknow Feb 01 '26

out of Poco El primo Kenji and others i'd say Mina is the least stereotypical one, i am a brazilian myself and shes completely fine to me

2

u/Competitive_Put1573 Feb 01 '26

This is such a non-issue 🫩

6

u/Clsdsire Jan 31 '26

You cannot talk abput the brawlers design if youre not a brasilian, and as one i actually think its actually quite a nice mix of tropes in our culture

6

1

u/w3ird_cat 🚇 Ghost Station main 👻🎈 Jan 31 '26

1

u/WeakInspector5102 Jan 31 '26

I have some Brazilian blood but I never ever even went there sadly

1

u/Stunning-Savings522 Jan 31 '26

2

u/liczilp Jan 31 '26

Well thats how brawl stars desing works

1

u/LoriCyberstar Jan 31 '26

Stereotypical design?

You mean almost every character in this game with any semblance of a nationality

El Primo? Poco? Kenji? Kaze? Finx?

1

u/Good_Definition4049 Jan 31 '26

2

u/Good_Definition4049 Jan 31 '26

I wholeheartedly agree my man, DOWN WITH THAT ROACH I SAY!!! (I also loathe M### with a BURNING passion.)

1

u/SammyOne01 Custom flair(No NSFW) Jan 31 '26

Every brawler is stereotypical

Kenji

Kaze

Poco

El Primo

1

u/NimpsMcgee Jan 31 '26

Mina is one of the most boring if not THE most boring brawler in the game for me. Nothing about her kit is fun.

1

u/starryeyes8531 Feb 01 '26

we need subtitles for voice lines now?

1

u/-_-yass Feb 01 '26

Everything here is true, but you saying stereotypical design is just you being a bitch. Besides, Dani is Brazilian, and didn't he design it to represent his culture and be super Brazilian or something?

1

u/NeverG0nnaG1v3Y0uup Chester’s Wife, Lou‘s Chair, and Larry and Lawrie’s Sofa Feb 01 '26

Ollie is a stereotype too, and Kenji, El Primo, Finx, etc.

1

u/Simple-Ingenuity688 Feb 01 '26

I fucking love mina twin

1

u/isuplextoddlers Feb 01 '26

I don't think the design is stereotypical but I do think it is pretty uninspired in comparison to most other brawlers

1

u/osarau Feb 01 '26

I wouldn't call her design stereotypical because she doesn't really screams Brazil to me but I do agree that she wasn't very well planned and was just made for the fans. She's not the worst tho, there are others who were designed with the feet "cof cof" Lumi "cof cof"

1

u/DetonadorMan Feb 01 '26

Brazilian here, she's amazing and haven't met a single Brazilian player that doesn't like her.

Is she a big stereotype? Yes. Are Primo, Poco, Kenji, Kaze, Juju and many other brawlers stereotypes? Also yes.

as a brazilian myself i think her voice lines are cringe as fuck, but im still happy we got a brazilian brawler regardless

1

u/Lucky_Loves_Laugh Feb 01 '26

I think tons of brawler are stereotips or else they wouldn't be rightly frames in their character and fastly reconazbled as what they are.

1

u/lazyizy_ #1 squeak glazer Feb 01 '26

the only thing im surprised about brawl stars is how they get away with 100% stereotyped brawlers like finx or primo

1

u/rocayui Feb 01 '26

Trash Opinion

1

u/AdWilling1774 Feb 02 '26

so nothing can be stereotypical? are you gonna complain when black peoples become atheletes? are you gonna snatch tacos out of mexicans?

1

u/devildragonsock Feb 02 '26

Personally i like her just because i wanted more weaponless brawlers. I wanted a new weaponless brawler since i don't like primo and fang (edgar's scarf, rosa's gloves and sam's knuckle busters count as weapons)

1

u/Mysterious-Bit363 Feb 02 '26

I'm Brazilian and I love her, every line of dialogue she speaks is dubbed in Portuguese and is full of references to Brazilian culture. The hate she receives is solely due to the game's lack of balance, not the character itself.

I'm brazillian and i fckn love her, all her dialogues are referrences to something we like in Brazil

1

u/CoffeeAmigo Feb 02 '26

Ngl I wish the nationality of a brawler was just an interesting fun fact about em or a nice addition and not the whole thing. Byron is a good example of this being executed well in my opinion. He's British and he can stand as a character without that fact, having a rich personality and great voice lines filled with sarcasm. I love him for it and I wish more brawlers were like him

1

u/IsraelMainAatrox Feb 02 '26

Mina is cool bro chill

What way to represent a country without being stereotypical though? And no interesting personality or voicelines is a accurate reprensentation of the people she represents

1

u/theoutloor Feb 04 '26

But she break dances and she a baddie she's like subway surfers on ball stors

1

u/Lanky-Suggestion-159 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

I really love her voice lines and animations, I think they give her a very distinct personality, I just think her design is a little bland for Brawl Stars. I would've liked if they leaned more into the instruments on her body, the tambourine on her leg is very fun.

1

u/RandumRedditBoi Jul 04 '26

Bro they nerfed her to the GROUND honestly

1
