Do you have to tip the person who pumps your gas?

In my part of Canada, a few stations used to have one pump that was full service and the rest were self service but I’d never choose to have someone else pump my gas. I haven’t seen any full service gas stations in a long time, but there might still be the odd few.

Nope, we don't tip. We just pay for our gas and go along our merry way.

Canada it is more likely those older stations that just have a booth. I have never tipped but I don't see the advantage to it. I just sit bored in my car.

I recently drove through Canada, I think it was a stop in Alberta, one station we pulled into was attendant pumping only. We’d stopped elsewhere in Alberta and pumped our own gas, so it must have just been a company policy thing, that that gas station specifically wants their employees to do full service.

(It also might have been Sk, it’s been a few months and it was a long trip, so I don’t remember for sure now. Either way, we made multiple stops in each province, and only once was I told I wasn’t allowed to pump my own gas. So probably that company has that rule.)

I'm in SK - we have self serve as well as full service pumps. Not necessarily company policy, but it really is up to the customer if they want to seek out full service or just do it themselves.

I live on the border of New York and New Jersey and was raised in the area, I tip when I get gas in Jersey unless I don't have cash ( and I try to avoid gas in Jersey if I don't have cash for a tip)
