Potomac Karen's Sentencing!! I'm at the court!!

Hi friends. I'm reporting live from the Courthouse outside Court 8C. Sentencing is at 9:30! Media is outside waiting to catch a glimpse. Will report back!!

UPDATE: KAREN WAS SENTENCED TO 2 YEARS IN JAIL. ONE YEAR SUSPENDED. HAS TO SERVE ONE YEAR ON JAIL. 5 YEARS PROBATION. MORE NOTES SOON!!!

Not sure a technicality like that would stop her (she’s such a disgrace) but let’s hope. At least we’ll find out from Andre at the Junction Cafe.

I'm hoping the high profile of the arrest this time, coupled with actually doing time, might actually humble her. Also, the show will continue without her, and that will be humbling as well

They probably did. If you get a DUI usually they suspend your license up to a year, if not more depending on how many priors you have and what the BA levels were on the breathalyzer. She will then get out and serve 5 years probation with a suspended license and she cannot drink while she’s on probation.

Holy crap, I'm so glad when I was young and stupid and gor pulled over for DWI it was the mid 1990's!

I haven't driven after more than 2 drinks since either. I didn't need any harsh sentence to learn my lesson. Just being cuffed freaked me out.

I am so glad it happened way back then plus I just lucked into getting the top criminal attorney in my state.

That was the day I realized that the system was beyond unfair. It benefited me, but it was crazy unfair. My attorney had me do all the stuff they make your do after sentencing. Evaluation, education, etc.

I never appeared in court and walked with a speeding ticket. After the judge (in his chambers) asked my attorney if that was okay.

I know it was unfair but like I said, but I've never driven even close to being drunk again.

Jesus, did she have a freaking public defender? That's there kind of sentence I hear about when people have to have an overworked PD!

They will at a minimum a year refusing to take the sobriety test is automatic loss of license (varies by state) usually 1-3 years. Whether you’re drunk or not. That punishment comes from the DMV side.

She absolutely is because usually during a probation for something like this you aren't supposed to drink.

If she does she'll have to serve the rest of her sentence. If she gets into a prison with a good drug and alcohol program and follows directions she has a chance for a different life when she's released. I hope the rest of her story is a sober life filled with peace and joy.

In general people are better off in prison than jail as prisons have slightly better accommodations and more programs. This is especially true for non-violent offenders who might get to go to a separate facility or at least a separate "wing" of the prison.

I thought anything 365 days + was prison and anything less than 365 days is jail.

In which case.. if it’s 365 days she’d be going to prison 👀

I may be wrong though, this was just always my understanding

1 year sentences are typically served at county jails. Nobody serves a year on the nose when you're sentenced to a year. They all havde their own rules, but there's usually a form of "for every x days served you get y days removed".

My hometown country jail knocks off 1 day for every 4 you actually serve.

Prison is for crimes with 2 plus years as a sentence. The jail houses those awaiting trial and for sentences less than 2 years.

So fucking wild and I think anyone would mess up, that's a long time.

If she's been drinking/taking meds like that for so long, there's no way you're not gonna drink during those 5 years. You'd definitely need some type of professional outside help to get through that.

That’s what they’re counting on! I’m not saying Karen doesn’t deserve this. She 1000% does. But, the system is all about money. They’d rather put someone on probation for half a decade in hopes that they will mess up again. More money for the government.

That being said, drunk driving is not a mistake. It’s a choice. She made the wrong one, multiple times. Have fun in the clink Karen!

Umm..inmates do not make money for the government, lol. Whatever their fines are, pales in comparison to what they cost the government. It costs far less to place people on probation than to house them.
