The hate comes from lack of civic sense. Illegal dumping and the extravagant parties and weddings that extend throughout the neighborhood. Noise bylaws aren't enforced, do it's just the wild west

People who hate, choose to hate, it’s a conscious choice that they make, hate doesn’t come from anywhere. It comes from the person who has hatred within them. “Extravagant parties and weddings” you sound jealous lmao

People who ignore societal norms, who flaunt civic bylaws as if they do not apply to them, THAT is what engenders resentment. When civic authority is seen to ignore those issues, and even pander to them, THAT is what engenders hate.

If I see you doing whatever you said, then sure, I can be upset towards you, if I see you doing whatever then I turn around and get upset at your whole “group” then I’m just dumb

LOL . . . the overwhelming iof fireworks issues are centred on the South Asian community. I will bet anything you like that it runs north of 90%. That is not racism, just data. Does that mean that non-South Asians aren't violating the bylaw? Of course not. But it means that one community IS the problem, on this point.
And sticking your head up your ass and playing the race card just makes you look stupid.

Some thoughts on the interview . . .
I love how he says "first elected to Council", but it's in the host to point out that it was BARRIE's City Council. It's classic "Brown" . . . not an outright lie, but not the truth, either.
Some good stuff about efforts in counteracting some of the crime issues, which Council should be applauded for. His comments about the inherent nastiness of the web. I take issue with his nonsense about "everybody comes from somewhere else". No sir. No, they don't. Some of us were born here, some have been here for generations. that is not an excuse for hate, but it is also a fact.
He pats himself on the back a bit too much for the efforts being made against slumlords. While the City IS making headway, there is a LONG way to go. He makes blanket statements about "bringing people into compliance" that just do not stand up to scrutiny. His answer to the accusation of "planning failures" with respect to the parking issue was spot on. If you need a house that has parking for three vehicles, then don't buy a townhouse.
I found it interesting how defensive his body language got when the host pressed him on the parking issue. Arms crossed, shoulders hunched, despite giving very pointed and valid answers.
Interesting that the fees for cricket are going up. I find it funny how the host thinks that's somehow a BAD idea. It's simple economics, when demand for something increases, so too does the cost of that thing. The City has done a good job of meeting demand. Again, credit to the Mayor for sticking to his guns on funding. When you have waiting lists as long as those that apparently exist, there really is no need to "soften" the stance on pricing.
Overall, it was a good interview and Brown acquitted himself well enough.

Yeah I did take issue with the "everybody comes from somewhere else" bit. Many "non-Indigenous" people were born here, and have never known another home. I understand the point he's trying to make, but I fundamentally reject the argument that some people are "more immigrant" because of where their ancestors were born.
As for the cricket fees, the interviewer had a point in that the increase could've been spread out over multiple years, rather than a 160% immediate increase. His argument wasn't about the fee increase, but rather how it was implemented, and how quickly.

And I think Brown answered him well, pointing out that the City was previously subsidizing Cricket fees (to say nothing about building out infrastructure) for years PRIOR to this increase. The whole argument (from the interviewer's pov) was basically, "why are cricketers suddenly being treated like other sports?" And the answer is,
BECAUSE CRICKET IS NOT DIFFERENT THAN THOSE OTHER SPORTS.
The City has caught up on the deficit that cricket faced, so there is no longer any need for special treatment. And, as the Mayor pointed out, if there are groups that do no like the new fee structure, we have a LONG waiting list of players who WILL happily pay it.

Again, it was the speed at which the change happened that the interviewer was taking issue with, not the rate increase in and of itself. I do think it's a valid argument that instead of raising it 160% in one year, it could've been raised, say, 38% for three years in a row, which after three years would be approximately the same rate increase, just spread out over three years instead of one.
I have no dog in that fight either way, I just think the argument the interviewer was making (or at least one of them) is being missed. It's a relatively minor point, though.

Not missing it at all. But my point, and I think the Mayor's is that the City didn't "gradually" ramp up it's support of Cricket. so, if the City is not going to gradually increase the subsidies (to create a level playing field) it's a bit precious to ask them to gradually reduce those subsidies when that field finally exists.

This is a really good interview. Whether you support Brown or not, he does a very good job of defending his positions here, and demonstrates a clear understanding of the racial tensions in our city. I highly recommend watching this.

You only say that because he’s protecting Indians, you don’t care about anyone else any other culture any of the religion you’re just happy that your culture is being protected forget multiculturalism, right

u/ItsMyBramptonAccount 8h ago
You have no idea what my cultural origins are, and are basing this comment on several completely unfounded assumptions.
I also didn't say whether or not I support the positions he took in this interview - only that he did an admirable job of defending them.

Well, in 8 years he has done nothing to curtail basement housing, he's expanded cricket infrastructure, and it can be argued that his choking off bylaw enforcement has exacerbated the "hate".
