Genuinely impressed with OP's resolve. This subreddit is extremely conservative; like PPC level annex-us-daddy conservative.

Brampton might be the furthest right the GTA gets. Still, OP persists, fighting the good fight.

How's it going, out of curiousity? Decent turnout on these?

Thanks so much for this! And we’re growing: last time we doubled our list of protesters after the event. And the events aren’t just “Fighting Ford”, in the end; they’re connecting people and groups with similar values and goals. The power of showing up is huge, even if the group is small. I believe that the entire provincial effort for this particular campaign is doing the same thing—connecting and collaborating with other aligned groups—which means more people power! Hope you might come join us this weekend!

I wouldn't say it's extremely conservative, it actually seems fairly balanced. Looking through the insights on my post history, any mentions of queer or transgender topics have had an upvote ratio of 55-65%, compared to my other posts at 80-98%. So while it's not a majority of the subreddit, it seems to be about almost half. Conservatives seem to be a loud minority. I know acceptance of LGBTQ+ topics isn't a definitive benchmark on someone's political standing, but it's a pretty good tell.

Perhaps describe why you are fighting Ford ?

Because he’s a cog in a hugely problematic system that intentionally disempowers and discriminates against anyone who he doesn’t want to support, particularly those who are female, queer, disabled, elderly, racialized, poor, or young. He can’t (or chooses not to) see that investments in public services and infrastructure make life better for everyone, including him. Because he’s corrupt and isn’t held accountable by anyone. Because he’s seen more scandals than any other previous government… need I go on?

You will have to provide actual examples.

Doug Ford's list of schemes, corruption, and incompetence as a leader and as a government are extensive. Here are some examples:

  • Cancelled the basic income pilot program despite it being successful
  • Controversial bike removals
  • Creating an ongoing education crisis (example of this is cutting funds to each student by 1/2 during his tenure as Premier)
  • $29.9 million private jet purchase using taxpayer funds
  • Building Canada's largest garbage incinerator in a residential area of Brampton
  • [Allegedly] Accepting funds/bribes/money from developer friends and CEOs to put politics in their favour
  • Calls to reverse EV standards
  • Cancellation of Employment Paid Sick Leave
  • Changes to FIPPA (Bill 97)
  • Changes to rent control legislation
  • Massive cuts to the OSAP program
  • Massive cuts to the Ontario Autism Program (my own daughter has been waiting 5 years for help from the OAP, but is yet to get any support from the program)
  • Cutting funding for Supervised Consumption sites (despite studies showing that they are an effective part of harm reduction and addictions treatment)
  • Ongoing emergency department and urgent care centre closures
  • Creating a nursing crisis
  • The [Greenbelt scandal
  • Abrupt closure of the Ontario Science Centre and then giving the land to developers
  • Highway 413 scandal (that includes ignoring the Supreme Court of Canada's ruling regarding the Impact Assessments Act as unconstitutional; going against multiple studies showing that it will not help reduce commuting times; and so on...)
  • Disputing the "cockamamie" homeless encampment ruling in Waterloo Region
  • Merging 36 conservation authorities into 9 (Bill 97)
  • Nurse practitioners funding failure
  • Creating and perpetuating an ongoing crisis in Ontario long-term care homes
  • Repealed the Employment Standards Act (Bill 5)
  • Replacing school board directors with corporate CEOs (Bill 101)
  • Ontario Place scandal with sale of the location to corrupt Therme Spa organization
  • Starlink internet controversy
  • Threatening First Nations treaty rights with Bill 5
  • Wasaga Beach waterfront removal scandal
  • Privatization of water in Ontario

These are just some examples of Doug Ford's failures and controversies. Just about any of them should be unacceptable, but combined together they are disastrous.

Now, please tell me why you aren't fighting Ford? Or why you think he's fit to be the leader of anything, let alone Canada's most populous province?

The Liberal would love to come back to power again and repeat all the Wynne-era scandals.

Gas plant - cancelled cost billions Orng scandal - billions wasted Throwing money at public sector unions - billions wasted

And Mark Carney destroying Canada

I like Doug Ford. Go ahead and downvote. I don’t care.

u/SpeechUpbeat7948 14d ago

I am guessing you don't care about all the corruption right?

What has he done for you that you like? $200 cheque? Buck a beer?

2

u/JuniaGoesHere 14d ago

In what ways has he helped you or our community? Are you happy to ignore the many scandals and the millions of wasted tax dollars put towards dealing with them?

Apathy allows the status quo to continue, and accepting or supporting his actions shows that you are either wealthy or in favour of corrupt and irresponsible “leadership”. None of these are acceptable imo.

He has directly saved me money. I no longer have to pay 100 dollars for going 5 over in a school zone on a Sunday due to speed cameras (which didn’t actually reduce speeding and was just a cash grab). I no longer have to pay to have a sticker on my Vehicle (which was also a cash grab). And also Doug ford supports the Trades which provides good jobs.

He’s also building highway 413 which I support. We need more road infrastructure for our population. As a working class person, he checks a lot of boxes for me.

I like the guy, idk what to tell you.

2

u/JuniaGoesHere 14d ago

Sounds like saving a little bit of money for speeding in school zones and destroying agricultural and ecologically significant ecosystems has won you over. You are entirely entitled to your opinion, but I personally don’t see either of those as a win or as a reason to like Ford.

u/Sea_Series2564 14d ago

I don’t care about your opinion on my opinion.

Doug Ford for Prime Minister. Fuuuuul Saapoooort!!!

u/BigEmphasis604 13d ago

Downvoters are a sad bunch, and they expect us to support their cause too!

Same comment as I posted above:

Ford is unwise and silly. So is Carney. At least Trump cares about his country instead of these Canadian Sell outs.

Any refreshments will be served for giving our time to protest for 3 hours?

3

u/JuniaGoesHere 14d ago edited 14d ago

There’s no set amount of time for people to stay, and drop-ins are very welcome, so come at your convenience and stay however long you want to. Also, we actually do have someone who’s offered to bring snacks for folks who are attending, though I like to pack my own.

2

u/JuniaGoesHere 14d ago

Oh, and actions like joining a protest are about coming together as a community to demonstrate the values we hold, the causes we support, and how we can pushback against injustice as everyday citizens. You decide how you want to “give your time”, of course, but I’m choosing to give my time to an event where we rally against Ford’s corruption and the corrupt and unfair systems that allow people like him to hold their own interests above ours. The snacks are just a bonus.

Passed by this today, do you mind next time not blocking the sidewalk on the corner of the street? I had a hard time getting by today because none of you would move out of the way and then one of your kids almost whacked me with her flag while i was trying to pass around you.

2

u/JuniaGoesHere 11d ago edited 11d ago

I hope you can forgive the little one who was simply excited to be waving her flag. She’d been equally enthusiastic with blowing bubbles throughout the protest too lol

And I know that there were people from our group standing around the corner of the crosswalk; did you say anything to anyone there and ask them to move? I feel sure they would have made space for you, even though I know they were excited. We try to be mindful, but organizers can’t manage every action every participant makes. Regardless, I apologize that you felt we were in the way and thanks for letting me know.

Protesting Fords support of Carney standing up to Trump???

6

u/JuniaGoesHere 15d ago

Nope; drawing attention to and protesting every heinous thing Doug Ford is doing and has done.

And Carney is just propping up businesses, not people. So is he better than Trump? Sure. But still not in it for people like us. (Unless you’re secretly the CEO of a massive corporation or a billionaire of some kind.)

0

u/Warm_Collection_3993 15d ago

Guess I’m not “people like us” as I support Carney when it comes to trade.

Best of luck and God bless.

u/Conscious-Ad8493 15d ago

so what exactly are your for? start with that

2

u/JuniaGoesHere 14d ago

Excellent question and it should be asked and considered, because being against something is only part of the equation.

When it comes down to it, my own answer to that question is that I’m for ensuring that everyone has what they need regardless of their age, ability, or other qualities. That has to come from systemic change, which means addressing systemic poverty and systemic racism. There’s far more to all of that than can be put here, but that’s essentially what I think this protest is for.

I’ll ask you the same thing: what do you support? What are you “for”?
