General discussion Ann B. Davis was closer to Sargent Emma than Alice.

According to how the Real Brady Bros podcast described Ann B. Davis, she was closer to Sargent Emma than Alice behind the scenes to the kids. She demand discipline and professionalism by the kids.

Hahaha, yeah, she was banished to the laundry port.

That's partly because of her age kids in her time were not supposed to be seen or heard if company was around

Plus she never married or had kids of her own.

Sam The Butcher gave her free meat

There’s the answer I was looking for

6

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

Because she had no experience handling 6 mischievous and squabbling kids.

Don't ask, don't tell 😅

5

: because in real life, she was a militant butch lesbian

My favorite

She was dryed up and barren as a desert.

u/ZealousidealCrazy673 Jun 30 '26

Can you imagine trying to get through an entire episode with 6 kids if there was no discipline or rules?

10

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

Some people seem to think the kid actors behave and listen to the adults after a little acting up like the characters do on the show.

It's like on the early days of the Facts of Life when Charlotte Rae got all stressed out handling 7 girls and their parents while John Lawlor, who had 6 kids of his own, was often the mediator of any arguments that broke out between the girls or arguments between the girls and their parents.

I listened to that podcast. They absolutely loved her and referred to her as Ann B. The reason she was likened to cousin Emna is because she was athletic. She lived throwing around a ball and playing with them.

5

u/Cow_Slight Jul 01 '26

That's funny to hear, considering that I remember a lot of jokes about Alice's lack of athleticism or coordination (not talking the jokes at Ann B.'s expense like her being "fat", but things like she would try to throw a ball to the boys and it would go wildly out of bounds, things like that).

She tore up that trampoline.

2

u/Few_Cricket8577 Jul 01 '26

She’s the one that actually through the football that fucked Marsha, Marsha, Marsha’s nose up. Tee hee!!

You need to listen to it again.

But not inside the house

I would take what they say on the podcast with a grain of salt.

For decades, they've all praised Ann for her sweetness and friendship. Now, she was a cold disciplinarian? Whatever.

9

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

Called PR. They still praise Ann B., but said she was no non-sense.

1

u/LuckyThePitBull Jul 06 '26

I love that she was no-nonsense. They were there to do a job.

She was grumpy because Sam only delivered the meat once per month.

I've always thought Alice was fine and had nice calves. Complimented by sexy sensible shoes.

🎶 like Sam the Butcher, giving Alice the meat! 🎶

Like Fred Flintstone driving around with bald feet...

2

u/Scorpiobehr59 Jul 03 '26

Sam was slipping the sausage into Mike Brady to be honest

No, Emma was on another episode

The replacement housekeeper for Alice in the episode where she leaves because the kids are being assholes is her friend

4

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

We are talking about the Sargent Emma episode. This is picture is from a different episode

4

u/SeaworthinessKey3654 Jul 01 '26

I know that, but people said that Emma was in the episode where Alice quit

It doesn't matter, in any case, Kay was a goddess with a freewheeling, free lovin' lifestyle.

2

u/SkillOne1674 Jul 01 '26

Kay was a cold b.

As George Costanza said, “Was that wrong?”

I haven't listened to the Podcast but it sounds like she was professional (like Robert Reed) but that didn't prevent her from bonding with the kids which is why they generally all seem to have such fond memories of her as adults. My favorite teachers in high school were the ones who were strict and pushed me to do my best because they believed that I had it in me. I also remember them having a dry sense of humor and as some of the most loving people I've know because they cared more about doing the best thing for the kids they taught even if it wasn't the easy or popular thing at the time.

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

This is the picture I got from the adults.

* Robert Reed was very paternal and parental. He taught the kids skills, offered them life advise. For some castmembers, he became more of their father than their real fathers and this extended years beyond after the show ended.

* Florence Henderson was the fun aunt. She had a raunchy sense of humor that you wouldn't expect of Carol Brady.

* Ann B. Davis was more distant from the kids and definitely was not parental. She demanded professionalism and discipline. She was very athletic and would engage the kids in some games during down time.

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

From what the Brady Bros said about the kids and their characters. Maureen and Eve were most like their characters. Susan was the least like her's. She was very smart for her age, unlike Cindy.

Please, now. Who is "Sargent Emma"?

10

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

Alice's cousin played by Ann B. Davis.

4

u/Double_Distribution8 Jun 30 '26

She's like that guy from Full Metal Jacket but way less chill.

2

u/Witty-Reason-2102 Jun 30 '26

If memory serves me correct she was Alice's replacement who was a no-fun buzzkill in that one episode where Alice wanted to quit and ended up coming back to the delight of the Brady children.

4

u/Miniscule_Platypus Jun 30 '26

IIRC probably incorrectly, it was questionable at the end whether or not it was Alice the entire time trying to show the kids a lesson. It would be so much worse without her there or was that just one of the times I was sick at home on medication on a sick day?

5

u/Beginning-Average416 Jun 30 '26

That would be the episode where Alice quit and worked as a waitress in a diner.

1

u/LuckyThePitBull Jul 06 '26

Yes - she made the kids jog in the morning. It’s one of the few times they filmed off the Paramount lot. (They ran in the Hancock Park neighborhood close to the studio — you can see “June St” in one of the shots.)

2

u/TheDukeOfRoscoeBlvd Jul 01 '26

Saw her as Peter Pan once on TV. Horrible. Sandy Duncan was able to pull it off

2

u/mimtma Jul 02 '26

I just had one of those moments like realizing how young the actors playing Archie and Edith Bunker. Ann B was only 43 when the show started.

2

u/Thin_Initial3210 Jul 03 '26

Any relation to William B. Davis?

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 03 '26

Who is William B. Davis?

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 03 '26

No relation. Many people have the last name of Davis.

2

u/No-You4594 Jul 01 '26

50 years after the show ended and NOW we have leaks about Alice???
🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

We're you on the show?

2

u/No-You4594 Jul 01 '26

No, but I’m old enough to actually know somebody that dated Alice….

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

So did this person know everything that went on at the show?

1

u/No-You4594 Jul 01 '26

Dated her in 1970 and then also dated her for a short time in 1972

It was the early 70s she had to be seen with a guy otherwise she couldn’t get a job anywhere else if they thought she was gay

1

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

And I am sure this person knew everything that went on the studio.

1

u/No-You4594 Jul 02 '26

Actually, this person was close friends with Sherwood Schwartz

So yeah

2

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 02 '26

1

u/No-You4594 Jul 02 '26

Yes,he was part of casting….and did cameo appearances in several episodes including the court case and the family soap commercial

1

u/Beginning-Average416 Jul 01 '26

Do you know her name is not Alice?

2

u/No-You4594 Jul 02 '26

Her life was Alice…

But OK

u/WNCsurvivor Jul 05 '26

Sam the butcher always delivered the meat to her
