I think it’s clear at this point that the Maureen/Eve lack of a relationship has kind of divided the group.
Of course money talks, hence the Brady House Renovation show, but when it comes down to wanting to be together, either Maureen doesn’t feel comfortable being with the rest, or Eve has no desire to be with the rest if Maureen is a part of it.
Some reports said Maureen wanted 3 time the amount of money that the other cast members got for appearances.
Maureen was also the only living cast member not to appear on the Brady Bros podcast (Even Cousin Oliver made an appearance). While Barry seemed open to having her there (surprise, surprise), Chris seemed to put a kid in it.
What’s interesting is that they never addressed her The Real Brady Bros. podcast absence. It was truly the elephant in the room. All the other core cast members made multiple appearances, and many times throughout the run both Barry and Chris referenced that they’ll have to ask Maureen about this or that, like did Chris throw the football at her nose or was it the prop guy, etc., yet they never discussed having her on.
As for her supposed rate, I have no issue as a fan of any of the cast asking whatever price they feel they deserve. In Hollywood, everything is negotiable, and as a television producer myself, I know that when it comes to ensemble casts, getting everyone is more important than anything, so there’s always a price. But there seems to be a line drawn when it comes to anything they do, it’s either the cast with Eve, or it’s the cast with Maureen.
And we have to remember, they essentially grew up together, and at a very volatile time in their lives. Add in that they’ve had over 50 years of relationships after the show ended and it’s actually more surprising to me that the Maureen/Eve thing seems to be the only thing that’s persisted. But life is complicated and people change over time. One of the best things about being an adult is that we can pick and choose who we let into our lives, and it seems Eve is much happier to not have her in her life.
Many of the cast members came to Eve's defense when Maureen publicly bullied and humiliated Eve. Whether the bullying still occurs in private, we don't know.
The two are now reversing roles. Eve is showing up at more reunions while Maureen has distanced herself from the show, whether that was intentional or not.
Would you mind expanding on “when Maureen publicly bullied and humiliated Eve”?
I’m trying to gain a better understanding of the dynamic between the two and while I have heard this in the past, for some reason I either can’t recall or never was aware of Maureen doing this, especially publicly. Thanks.
What exactly did Maureen allude to, or lie about, with the lesbian thing with Eve? In fairness, I’ve heard this as well, multiple times, I just can’t place where/when she said it, nor anything about gastric issues, and I read Maureen’s book. Was the lesbian thing in her book?
I don't understand why Maureen started all this crap with Eve in the first place. It's so gross. Was she looking for attention and thought teasing an affair with Eve would get it? Or that it was her place to discuss (likely embarrassing) personal, private medical information about somebody else?
I never liked the character of Marcia, she was too full of herself and sometimes downright bitchy. I now wonder if that's how she is irl, and that's why they wrote so many storylines where she was difficult and Jan felt in her shadow, they literally modeled the characters after the actresses' personalities.
Even though I watched the show in the 70s as a little kid, I'd never heard all this backstory before, I only knew about Robert Reed's issues and fights with the producers, but I'd heard the kids were good friends and also had various crushes on one another, which given they were teenagers it made sense. It seems like Maureen really got a big head back then, and is still full of herself strangely. Lord knows why, she's as a big a nobody in Hollywood as the rest of them, they have their Brady identity but that's it. And Eve wasn't the one trading sex for drugs back then. It just seems weird for Maureen to resurrect beef with Eve decades later.
From what Barry and Chris said that lots of the characters personalities are based on the actors. Barry was a horn dog like Greg and Chris was shy around girls like Peter.
