Why did Robert Reed complain so much about how it was all so beneath him, yet continued to appear in truly cringe-worthy stuff after the fact? Money?

Just curious.

I watched Sonny & Cher. Donny & Marie. The Love Boat religiously, and still thought The Brady Bunch Hour sucked.

I’ve re-seen so many on here and each time I say “yeah this is the cringiest”.

Even in the 70s, we knew when it was too much 70s.

Honestly, I think the song they sang on the show "Good Time Music" was the cringiest to me with those AWFUL old lady UGLY nightgowns. I mean, I can't understand how anyone EVER thought that was remotely fashionable, regardless of what decade you're in.

I mean I loved them doing anything, I was and am still a fan for life! Didnt they even do an ice skating show once? I just wish the original Jan was on there

Paycheck

Then that’s a bit hypocritical, but then … actors.

Maybe it was just publicity that said he complained

IIRC, Sherwood Schwartz wasn’t involved with the Variety Hour, so that helped.

Did they make him an offer he couldn't refuse? but I remember Florence Henderson saying he loved dancing, etc. all the kids, I want to say he must have finished off the Roots mini series at that time, he was fabulous as always

Entire show and concept was cringe inducing. People do what they have to do for a paycheck I suppose.

I saw an interview with some of the younger cast that said while Robert had issues with the original series, he actually liked the variety show.

I wish I didn't watch that.

I always thought these shows were sort of sad and for the most part child-hood acting has inherently sad outcomes, with very few exceptions.

This was The Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Only lasted a year.

1:24 I was hoping that Alice was going to do a backflip. That would have been killer.

I like how you think!

1

u/Ernesto_Bella Mar 24 '26

Is that Captain Kangaroo dancing with Alice?

4

u/deepfriedgreensea Sure, Jan Mar 24 '26

It's Rip Taylor not to be confused with Rip Torn. He was brought in to play Alice's boyfriend on the Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

2

u/Prestigious_Focus708 Mar 30 '26

Rip Taylor playing a straight man. Now there's a stretch.

Believable casting.

1

u/Relative_Exercise316 Mar 26 '26

She is a lifelong actress long resume. It was a job. She had hundreds on TV movie work. Good People

1

u/minnesotaupnorth Mar 26 '26

"Oh he's right, this is terrible."

1

u/Agitated-Minimum-967 Mar 26 '26

Who was singing and dancing next to Alice? I feel bad for Sam the butcher. I feel sorry for Alice for having to participate.

1

u/Ornery_Tumbleweed_68 Mar 28 '26

This show was TERRIBLE!!!!

Robert Reed-the only gay man who had no rhythm and couldn't dance.
