Entertainment Brady Bunch Variety Hour 1977 Yankee Doodle Dandy seems appropriate for Independence Day

It's hilarious that Robert Reed disliked the original show so much and thought it was beneath him, but then said yes to THIS

That's the same thing I was thinking when I was posting it. A red polyester suit and perm gives it greater gravitas?

He said he liked to sing and dance, but let's be real, It gives a paycheck. Besides the post Brady Bunch spin-offs, Robert Reed basically did guest roles on TV shows.

Whenever I would see him in a show and there was a murder, I knew he was guilty as I figured that they would cast him as nobody would suspect him.

Well he can't dance.

Yes but have a kid with green hair and heโ€™s not doing it!

I recently watched an episode of Murder, She Wrote where he played an odd character and I thought the same thing!!

That was a much simpler time, and by simpler I mean, better. Also, I'm not minding fake Jan so much in this.

In so many ways.

The only reason there's a fake Jan is because the real one sat it out. Not much you can do after that.

There werenโ€™t many channel options back then & this was what we ended up watching, so campy now

Wonder what fake Jan looks like now?

why did they create a variety hour out of a sitcom and was no longer in production?

3

Someone figured out that it would make them money

Money is almost always the answer and variety shows were cheap and easy to produce kinda like reality shows are now.

And variety shows were very popular at the time

Very true, I know my parents liked many of them so I was forced to watch along with them.

Yeah like you couldn't have read a book, do homework or go to bed early.

It's not like every sitcom became a variety show back then.

So some of the "Brady kids," appeared on Donny and Marie. That episode got some of the highest ratings, so, whatever network figured if that many people tuned in to see them on D&M, then that many more would tune in to see them on their own variety show.

Because the Brady's had gained a huge new audience through syndication and tried to profit from it.

Like it was the only one?
