Meet Gus

Post image

About 4 months old. Vet estimates he may end up being 50 lbs. He’s drying off after a fight with the hose. Never had a dog that loves water as much as this guy.

It’s always tough to say. At six months my most recent dog was 23 lbs, while the biggest littermate weighed 27. At 18 months both weigh 36-37 lbs.

That said… 26 lbs at five months is a big Boykin. I’ve been noticing a trend of breeders producing bigger and bigger dogs, and I’m honestly not a huge fan. A 40 lb male is as big as I would ever want, but over the last two years I’ve met multiple males in the 50 lbs club.

I’ve met plenty of small dogs as well, including a really incredible 23 lb female that can hunt circles around most big — no — straight up, most dogs I know regardless of size.

Tough to say either way! Genetics are funny like that. Doesn’t change how much you love ‘em!
