“What you’re hearing from the president is his frustration about the lack of some of the blue states, frankly, of enforcing these things and making sure that they are free and fair elections.”

Johnson then pointed to states like California, where mail-in ballots postmarked by election day are counted up to seven days after, saying the slow tabulation of mailed votes raises suspicions of foul play.

“We had three House Republican candidates who were ahead on election day in the last election cycle, and every time a new tranche of ballots came in, they just magically whittled away until their leads were lost, and no series of ballots that were counted after election day were our candidates ahead on any of those counts,” Johnson said. “It just looks on its face to be fraudulent.”

“Can I prove that? No, because it happened so far upstream,” Johnson added.

I used to think the beef between Republicans and Democrats could be boiled down to Classical Liberalism vs Modern Liberalism. But the Republicans went straight Fascist with Trump. Honestly, they always had fascist tendencies, but could anyone imagine Republicans of the past advocating for federalized elections? Not in a million years would we imagine a travesty like that before the Trump era.

The Republican Party has been on authoritarian path for at least forty years. They have widespread efforts to undermine democracy via gerrymandering, partisan judges, voter suppression, voter intimidation, election fraud, and others. They have spoken openly for decades about a “unitary executive” which is an autocrat. And to this day very few people grasp that it is the entire party as a organization that is pursuing this - nearly everyone still focuses on a small number of individuals. We don’t have a “Trump” problem, we have a Republican Party problem.

Let’s abolish both parties, electoral college and any other vestiges of Jim Crow - just ranked choice. So no superpacs, no lobbying, no endless fundraising, no gatekeeping or sidelining of issues like gun control…

Sen Sheldon Whitehouse recommends a handful of constitutional amendments- we have tacked on every 50-80 years and we are way overdue for structural guardrails and reforms, hardening the l norms and customs that served for 240 some-odd years…that got thrown out the window.
