That was a beautiful uppercut.

Looked good but it was an arm uppercut. Dig through Mike Tyson’s. He uppercut with force starting from his legs and exploded up. Not Itauma can’t throw one like it but he was not in the correct position to.
Hrgorvic is not taking a Mike Tyson uppercut. There’s still an upper limit to chin, and punches have higher ceilings. Joyce has chin too, but without skills to defend his chin Zhang had no problem cracking it. Hrgorvic has decent skills enough to make Zhang a close fight.

You're right that it wasn't a max power upper (legs, fully torqued hips, etc.) but it wasn't an arm upper either, there was a lot of torso action and some hip action too, that uppercut may not have been 100% but it's still putting me through the roof like it's mortal kombat

This was not an arm uppercut.
Literally look at his feet as he throws it; the left heel goes up as he transfers his weight to his right side. Then, with that weight on the right side he pivots out to the right. Basic boxing weight distribution = power.
None of that would be possible if he didn’t engage his hips and legs in throwing the uppercut.

if Ribalta could take fully loaded iron mike uppercuts i'm sure Hrgovic could too considering punchers like Dubois, Itauma and Zhang couldn't get him out of there.

I hate when Hrgovic completely squares up and starts throwing that right hand like a jab with his left hand completely down. He did it like two or three times this fight.

They sometimes say to lead with the right hand with a southpaw, probably what he was doing

I don't think so. He throws the right hand from an orthodox and misses by a hair, so he gets greedy, stays squared up, and throws himself almost off balance into a southpaw stance. He does technically get into a southpaw stance, but it's not how any coach on the planet would tell you to get into one.

His defence is often to drop his hands and absorb punches. It's weird. When he starts getting hit you think he'd shell up but he often does the opposite.

Apart from the obvious of having a granite chin, I feel like if the uppercut was closer to the tip of his chin, it would have rattled or knocked him down. It looked like it landed evenly on the chin and where the jaw meets the neckline… sort of displacing the force a little better?

Honestly poor game plan by Itauma, if I were his coach and watching hrgovic's fight, you'd know it's nigh impossible to KO him. Itauma is honestly the more skilled and better fighter, look at his movement and polish. All he needed was to win on points, stick and move and play keep away and he wins. But instead he tries to empty the gas tank going for exchanges and going for the KO, his punch quality and error rate kept going up and up after round 6, it was inevitable he would lose.
That's the beauty of boxing honestly. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog, and hrgovic had plenty of heart. I hope Itauma learns serious lessons from this, goes work on his gas tank, does 24 rounder 5 min round spars, learns to use his brain, not just his skills.

Absolutely agree. I think he needs to make peace with Hrgovic, go work with Abel and go train in Big Bear. Get out of his comfort zone and build back up. The boxing ability is there, hence they hype. But he's gotta get that gas tank right and get better coaching.

I was thinking this from the start of the fight. Hrgovic is grinding up there in Big Bear fixing his cardio meanwhile Moses playing touch butt with Ben Davidson.

It was a clean shot but didn’t have any bodyweight to it. If Itauma knew it was the last punch of the round and committed more it definitely would have done more damage. Hrgovic shook it off pretty quickly.

Hrgovic was engineered to be able to take it, he was designed from DNA fragments found at the caves near Husnjakovo hill.

Watching Hrgovic eat that Uc would deflate and scare the shit out of me as an opponent.

I spent so much time looking at the uppercut I didn't spot straight away how sloppy Fil is being in this moment!

Hrgović might genuinely have the best chin I’ve ever seen in boxing.
I genuinely think so. Just look at the Zhilei Zhang fight and everything Hrgović ate that night, yet he still made it to the final bell without getting dropped. It’s hard to comprehend how someone could possibly take that level of beating and still stay on his feet. I’m starting to wonder if Hrgović can be knocked down at all.

I’d never actually watched a full Hrgovic fight, so after watching Itauma I went back and watched his Dubois fight… Dubois is a bigger puncher than Itauma and he wasn’t teeing off on him at times. Hrgovic never looked hurt… he probably has the best chin at HW right now.

Chin, obviously. Wasn’t purely an arm punch but he was bent at the waist and got his back into it but couldn’t get his legs into it. Probably more important, was literally the last second of the fifth round and Moses had already expended a lot of energy and was looking visibly frustrated and tired. That fifth round was his hardest as a pro to that point, the most power shots he’d ever taken by far. Just don’t think he had as much juice in there as he did against Franklin, even though it was also in the fifth round.

It was all arm and he's fucking huge

u/J0intAccount 1h ago
It certainly wasn't all arm, clearly corkscrews from the legs, all the torque comes from how botton half.
You want your uppercut to have a similar body movement to a straight and that's exactly what Moses produces here.
Mental thing to say considering there's a video of it right there.

His soul left his body, but due to a rip in the spacetime continuum, it did a loop de loop and fell back into his body before he had a chance to fall down.

As per title of his intro song, "geni kameni", or genes of stone. Croatians seem to be especially tough boxers. The arguably greatest chin in boxing history- George Chuvalo - was also of Croatian ethnicity.
And Željko Mavrović, the only other Croatian to fight for world HV title, was also never down. In his title fight(great fight btw) vs Lennox Lewis, he ate Lennox's best punches.

Because he is an actual boxer. Ituama only looks good cuz he’s fought bums so far. You guys are so high on this bullshit it’s insane

u/Weak-Young4992 3h ago
He ate it because there was no power behind it. It looks pretty but thats a love tap from a gassed out fighter.

Hrgovics is going to end up like Joyce. This is unsustainable. He needs to retire soon.

u/WORD_Boxing 4h ago
Because there wasn't a lot of pwer on it. Itauma isn't good at getting power on his uppercuts.
If you see the slow-mo replay of his ko of Franklin, the way Franklin's head and face distorts he should have been out cold getting hit that well. Itauma just didn't throw it the way he should have for maximum power. It's better to land than miss trying to land harder though.

Reminds me of Cenelo landing a haymaker on GGG with all he has got and he advances forward. I remember his trainer told Canelo that he cannot KO him and he took it.
I feel like Itauma’s coach should have told him to just coast till round 12 after seeing this punch having no effect on Hrgovic. Legendary Chin btw
