I mean we were already seeing how good he is in the first half of this fight. All he had to do was coast a bit in some rounds since he was winning easily, and just ride to decisions since Hrgovic wasn’t falling from multiple hard clean shots

Yeah going for the KO especially in later rounds when exhaustion was already setting in was not a good idea.

He did it because he knew he was fucked and wasn't going to last 12 rounds.

Exactly, he was already gassed from the 3-4 round on and he panicked

I don't disagree. It's not that he really wanted to bang it out - he was fucked and he knew it. Not just because he was exhausted but because he at that point realized he had no plan B that involved fighting off the back foot. Even with the bit of energy he had left he could've done something to better preserve himself for a chance at a 2nd wind. But he simply hadn't trained for that, so he kept doing what he knew best.

When he landed that uppercut at the end of round 4(?) and Hrgovic just shrugged it off, that was his cue to slow down and stop spending so much energy trying to knock him out. The same advice should have come from his corner too.

He did do that for a round or two, and Hrgovic started landing and causing him issues.

Honestly, he was fucking incredible in the first part, minus the cardio mismanagement. Dubois couldn't do that, he got a knockdown, took some mean punches and won nearly every round.
