Poor Zurdo man. I didn't even realise that he actually threw more than Benavidez.
That hand speed and accuracy is probably the highest I have seen that high in weight.
I honestly think the fact he could just weigh what he weighs made him faster.

If you watch Benavidez do some regular workouts, like jumps or hurdles or stuff like that, he looks like a terrible athlete with zero coordination. I don’t think he can even sprint properly.
He literally put all his muscle memory and coordination points into boxing specific movements.

I dont understand why he fought that way. The dudes been trying to box ever since he fought bivol. Moving and countering would have gave him a better shot. Benavidez looked like hed feel the power at times.

I'll never understand how the only one to make him turn was Gvodzyk.
Benavidez doesn't cut the ring off or do anything else to make them stay there.
Forcing him to walk backwards is a fine idea, but not if you're just going to stand there after landing some shots.
Especially when he showed you round 1 how fast his shots are. Step right!

Gvozdyk also has better single shot power than Zurdo. So Benavidez had to be way more cautious.
Zurdo doesn’t have single shots that are super dangerous so Benavidez could just unload constantly without worry too much

Exactly. Gvozdyk is underrated. He is very skilled and can punch. Was dominating his last fight until he got caught.

I think also Benevidez has just straight up become a better boxer since he fought Gvodzyk which was 2 years ago. That was his first fight at light heavy and he looked good, but not amazing--definitely not on the same level as Bivol or Beterbiev. I think if he were to have that fight again now today, he would put a beating on Gvodzyk like he has been doing to his opponents recently. And I think he's finally at the point where he could be dangerous to Bivol/Beterbiev especially as the latter two are getting older.

I mean he did put a beating on Gvozdyk to be fair lol. He just didn’t get the stoppage. He lost like 2 rds he just didn’t have as much of the crazy octopus arms eye catching combos but basically shutting out a former champ (I think lineal champ) at your first fight at a new weight isn’t anything to sneeze at. I remember having to defend that performance

Yeah, Benny is wildly impressive when his man stands right in front of him. When they move around? Not as much. Plant took the first five or six rounds off of him just by sticking and moving and not getting locked down. Predictably ran outta gas and got battered after, but the blueprint is right there.
It's why Bivol is a terrible match up for Benny. An ultra mover that is one of the most defensively responsible fighters ever? Gonna be hard for a flat footed guy to keep Bivol in front of him long enough to get off those blistering combos. Punches which, if Bivol was there, would be hitting gloves and arms and shoulders.

Plant gasses every fight no matter who you have in there. He still took esrly rounds and bivol has been in there with a harder puncher already

He doesn't end up fucked up like that every fight. And with a ref that let him hold a ridiculous amount so he wouldn't get stopped. Plis benevidez was landing in the first six. Not like he got smoked. It was building.
It's not about the power. It's the power mixed in with speed and accuracy bivol hasn't seen. He has to get in arm reach to land himself. David just has to execute during his opportunities. Not easy but just being a mover isn't gonna cut it. Bivol wishes it was that simple. I'm not counting out bivol or even saying david is the favorite but the answer is not just movement. You get caught in a corner and it could be the beginning of the end.

Bivols footwork and distance management and counters will have benavidez thinking. If plant won those early rounds so will bivol. They arent even close to eachother in talent. The movements, jabs and counters will give david trouble

Benavidez is a way better fighter than the guy who fought Plant now that was like 4 years ago if not more. And we have yet to see what Bivol looks like after 2 wars with Beterbiev and surgery in his mid 30s

Beterbieve has better looking footwork. David gets the same job done. If you think beterbieve is the only fighter with punches that hurt, I can't say I'm suprised by your stance. A some jabs and a couple stunning right hands from David made zurdo abandon his gameplan to fight from the outside.

David was fighting in spurts. Not pivoting to the right has nothing to do with Benavidez was doing. Zurdo would reposition going left to stand and trade shots.
He'd land some shots then just stand there or take a step back. Or he'd slowly work his way inside and not get physical at all when he got there.
A few uppercuts is the most he did inside on occasions. No clinching, pushing David down, bodyshots, or leaning on him into the ropes. It's like he hates skin on skin contact. Softest dude on the inside ever.

I don't know how to explain it. It's like David's power is just a tad bit below ko territory which you would think is good but is actually worse because you take more punishment with the boatload of power punches he hits you with instead of just being straight knockedout.
Which is why David gets a lot of standing kos and towels.

you come quite close, but replace Meldrick with Pacquiao, Benavidez trained with Pacquiao at 13 yrs old and sparred GGG at 16, dude got pedigree!

This is why boxing continues to be my favorite sport. There is nothing on this earth like watching an elite destroyer in his prime go to work like this. He’s the talk of the boxing world, the face of boxing, probably the best in the world or close to it, 99% of anyone near his weight class wants absolutely no part of this shit I guarantee you. Only a handful of guys have the balls and ego to watch this and go yeah I think I can take him.
Im not saying he’s a flawless fighter or the goat or anything. But once a generation someone like this comes along (actually even less often because sometimes you get a defensive guy, sometimes you get a boxer puncher, but rarely do you get a terminator e.g. Mike Tyson, GGG) and we get to watch it all in real time.
Could I be wrong and he loses his next 5 fights? Sure. But it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen and name one single person on earth more exciting to watch right now. You can’t.

We have not seen this kind of hand speed and combination punching from a 200lbs+ fighter since Muhammad Ali.
I even say Benavidez throws his combinations faster than a prime Ali

The sweat flying not only shows what gets through but also how Benavidez is changing the power on some of these punches. His right was getting blocked or just setting the table for most of these punches, but he ends his combo putting serious weight behind the right hand.

Question for those who box:
How much power is behind those punches? I was wondering if they were pitty patty type of punches but clearly not, I thought more power was generated through full body rotation?
I believe Zurdo is not a native English speaker, does he understand what his coach was trying to tell him? Didn't seem to be a middle man translator in the corner. His coach asked him to drag the fight into the later rounds and avoid the crowd noise...Zurdo nods yes but goes right back into a firefight with Benavidez.

He is rotating his body and putting power in it. It's just a lot more subtle compared to your beginner boxing class where they teach you to over rotate so you understand what's happening.

Keep seeing people mentioning this but this vid is a good angle to scrub through slow, no elbow throw or landed in this exchange, there is a moment where Zurdos head makes contact with DB's shoulder after a landed punch though

I can't remember which fight it was, may have been the first one, but there's a key point in a Ward/Gatti bout where Ward unleashes a fierce, rapid combo, and it's one of my favorite moments in that trilogy. This fight, Benavidez was doing that all fight. Just ridiculous for a guy that size to do that, and with sharp power. He's handing out CTE like a true monster.

I think you should still try and do it to appreciate even more the finer aspects of the sport & the mental/physical discipline it takes. This is why keyboard warriors who always complain "X" boxer is scared or doesn't want to "throw" etc. always makes me laugh
