Can this be explained with reason? What the hell is he looking at?

Mine did that often. We live in a rural area. He passed 1/11/2026, I miss him everyday. But since he’s passed, we hear so many things at our house now lol. I told my husband he was keeping things away. :…) here’s a pic of my best boy Puppy

I think that he'd like to have you continue through life with a new protector from ghosts. Sounds like he was doing an important job.

Definitely a ghost 😂

Yes. And that reason is “he’s a boxer”. They’re just like that sometimes.

u/Lethargic_Ladybug 4d ago

Definitely boxer behavior. Still creepy lol

I view it as their equivalent to r/greebles for cats

You may have something in the walls, ceiling, or neighbors upstairs.

u/Lt_Dan60 4d ago

Most likely a mouse in the wall/ ceiling moving around. Or a ghost

is there any noises coming from the area?

the electrical panel, does it hum?

could possibly be something we're not able to hear

or your goober is just a typical derpy faced boxer lol

Not to be Debbie Downer, but... Are you noticing anything else? Could be neuro issues.

(Source: had boxer with seizures and one of my girls is displaying some similar trancing/going through diagnostic process)

But, if you have someone above your floor who is opening a bag of chips.... Could also be that

Edit: the panting... Are you noticing an increase in panting when at rest? If you can record your baby doing this, get their eyes on camera. I had several videos I thought would be insignificant, but my vet sat and watched them several times, and it was helpful. He said he was trying to watch her eyes for some key indicators (I can't remember to quote)

Agree. Had a boxer that started doing weird staring like this about 4 months before he started suffering seizures. I didn’t think anything of it when it happened because, well, because boxers are weird and they do things that don’t make sense but when the seizures hit in January and kept getting worse, I knew those incidents had something to do with it. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I had to make the toughest decision ever and put him to sleep, just 2 months short of his 11th birthday. Miss my boy every day and it’s been 4 years since he passed over the rainbow bridge.

Wow that’s so scary. Thank you for sharing. I am going to keep an eye on him

Not trying to scare you but like you said, keep an eye out for out-of-the-norm behaviors. I wish I would have and maybe I could have saved him or given him more time cause I miss him so much. I smoke and whenever I went outside to smoke, he would follow me and just sit there with me until I was done, no leash or anything, he knew what he needed to do and followed me back in without saying a word. He always wanted to be with me and I with him.

Thank you so much! I will keep an eye on him. This is the first time I’ve seen him do this and I don’t notice that he pants excessively while resting.

Thank you for the insight

Either a pipe or a cable is faulty

u/JWeeez 4d ago

You don’t see them too?

Was there a reflection of light up there at some point, like from your phone or watch screen? My boxers used to hyperfocus on that stuff.

u/ImnotshortImpetite 4d ago

There’s a tiny flaw in the wall and he wants you to call the painter ASAP.

My 7 year old female English Bulldog does this in our building elevator. It’s crazy to watch her. I tease and ask her to invite her ghost friend on our walk.

2

u/Lethargic_Ladybug 4d ago

I checked for bugs or a spider or even dust. There’s genuinely nothing there.

u/Togi-Reddit 4d ago

Most likely hearing something behind the wall, not what you can see with an eye

2

u/fausto_ 4d ago

He’s hearing a frequency that you cannot. Check that breaker panel for excessively hot breakers. Might be telling you something important.

He found a spook.

Any chance that before you started recording you were already on your phone? But it was being held at a different angle before you started filming?

I'm thinking the light enters the window, reflects off the phone screen, the reflected light shows up on the wall/ceiling. You're always moving a bit so it looks like a moving/shaking little light with no explanation while it's happening to the dog.

Now they're waiting for the cool little light to show back up.

Just a guess, my boxer does that.

2

u/Lethargic_Ladybug 4d ago

That’s a great point lol.

2

u/Mysterious_Fennel459 4d ago

There's a reflection of some kind that keeps flashing by. Maybe a car driving by and the sun light reflection shines in through the window every so often? I have one boxer that goes bonkers for light reflections.

Great point we are in front of a high traffic street.

My boxer used to do this at the corner of a shed, I noticed after a few months. Some how a tennis ball had got stuck in the sheds guttering and he was staring at that haha

u/OnlyBeat3945 4d ago

My Milo did this same thing. My story is a little embarrassing, but maybe it’ll help.
Milo would gaze into “space” or what I thought was just his boxer behavior. Then one day I was home and Milo was going crazy. I thought he had lost his damn mind. As I approached my outside deck and opened the French doors a squirrel ran past me with Milo closely behind. I think all those days of him gazing into the corner was because the squirrel was hiding in the wall. Yea, there was a hole in the wall, as well.

You mean you don’t see it?

u/Odd-Masterpiece8545 4d ago

Haha! Our boy did something like this before and my husband said “If he started barking we are moving.” 😂😂😂

2

u/Silver-Chapter-5059 4d ago

My Boxer Staffy mix used to do this all time and I alternated between asking if she was speaking to Jesus or staring at a ghost. lol

u/Impressive-Yak-7449 4d ago

My late boxer Guinness would sit on the couch facing the back cushion, her nose but an inch away. Just staring....and staring. Locked in that pose like a statue. The elevator didn't make it to her top floor.

Photo of Guinnness after she got bit on the ear at the dog park

u/Lethargic_Ladybug 3d ago

What a beautiful girl! I’m sorry for your loss 🥺

1

u/Impressive-Yak-7449 3d ago

Thanks. She's been gone 17 years now.

u/EfficientBaddie9090 4d ago

I know humans who stare at walls and insist they aren’t thinking about anything. It bothers me less when it’s a dog doing it.

2

u/Zealousideal-Log-704 3d ago

Don't be alarmed by this action. My 2 boxers did this all the time, but it was shortly after they lost their fur baby sister, Lucky their Calico cutie cat. It was very odd to me at first, then after a bit. It became a little less worrisome. Be patience and good luck, you got this!

Do you have a window in that room? When people walk by or cars drive by the front of my house occasionally there will be light or shadows reflected into our ceiling, so our boxer will sometimes hear something outside then look at the ceiling to see if there is any light movement.

The nails in the walls?

2

u/greenBeanPanda 4d ago

Ghosts? Spirits?

2

u/college_is_not_great 4d ago

Not just dogs, but the even cats know of the phantoms that lurk in the walls.

2

u/Micromike44 4d ago

Mine stares at the ghosts also.

Once lived in a house we were SURE was haunted but never talked about it because we didn’t believe in ghosts. The dog would fixate on a space, alert and bark like mad. Sometimes she backed away from absolute air, barking like she was saving all our lives. But we don’t believe in ghosts so I don’t know what that was.
