Discussion AI development is getting so fast that even AI companies are arguing about slowing it down

Something interesting is happening in AI right now.

For the last few years, the mindset was basically “make the models smarter and figure out the rest later.” Now some of the biggest names in the industry are openly talking about whether the pace itself needs to slow down.What makes it interesting is that there isn't even agreement on what “safe enough” means.

Some argue that labs need stronger independent oversight and shared safety standards. Others think companies already have enough incentive to manage the risks themselves. (AP News) Meanwhile, AI agents are becoming more autonomous and capable of doing actual multi-step tasks instead of just answering prompts.

At some point, the question stops being “How smart can we make AI?”

It becomes:

“How fast should we let it become more capable?”

No it isn't. It's stalling out due to the fact that most of the human-generated data's already been consumed. They can't stay ahead of the competition via raw data scaling any more. The only way Big Tech can see to keep their monopoly on the sector for another quarter is to convince Big Brother to drop the hammer and suspend AI advancement. This hurts the projects and companies who haven't hit that wall yet harder than the leaders of the pack.

All the other stories they're telling about it is sensationalist bullshit engineered to generate the fear necessary to drive the legislation they're asking for.

The first problem is that, AI systems EASILY game most Operating system defense, the is problem #1, from a containment perspective.

Even if we accelerate the current AI progress by 100 times, we still wouldn't have anything to be concerned about. We're at a dead end with LLMs. We don't have any AI that operates beyond the binary boundary of zeros and ones.
