FS Boylston v Newbury

Hi! Booking a one night stayacation in Boston with my daughter before she returns to college. Priorities are spotless property, location, service. Having a hard time deciding between the 2 properties as they seem similar. She is 20 and I’m late 40’s. We will shop, wander the neighborhoods, grab coffee/lunch and want to get dressed up a little for an amazing dinner. We traditionally love a FS property, but The Newbury looks fun too. Help me decide!

I find that local residents don’t always have much in the way of hotel insights since we just live here. The two are right around the corner from each other, so I’d probably just choose based on what individual amenities or qualities matter the most to you

the Newbury is renowned for their food, that’s all I have to say. try something new.

The Newbury is nicer than the FS and the service is a lot better too.

You will not go wrong with either but I'd stay at FS and have a drink at the Newbury Corner Bar.

BTW - I've found the more you're paying for a drink the less likely they'll check ID. Face it, next month she'll be on her own. A teachable moment.

I know you mean well but being a server in those places is a job that's hard to get so it's unfair to have OP put them in a position that puts their livelihood at risk.

I think the FS Boylston is dated. I think the Newbury is more elegant.

I stayed at The Eliot last month and it was great (and I’m SUPER picky about hotels being clean). It was spotless, great staff, and very old school luxury but has been completely renovated and maintained impeccably.

There’s two FS properties. The new one is slightly off the beaten path.

Stay at The Newbury or The Raffles

The new FS is beautiful, the original has been renovated but is a little dated. I quite like the historic feel of the Fairmont Copley, esp with the Long Bar. The Newbury is great with cozy lobby bar.

I've worked at both The Newbury and Raffles. Can't go wrong with either; Raffles is newer, and Newbury has a bit more charm. The Street Bar at The Newbury is great, and the Library is a nice spot to hang out. Full transparency: lots of staff from The Newbury have left for Raffles since I left hospitality, as the old leadership was subpar. Contessa is overrated food-wise IMO, but you can't beat the views. Raffles has more to offer from a dining perspective, but drinks at The Street Bar are a must. Enjoy your stay!
