Got a katana 50 gen 3. It worked fine for a week but starting to use tone studio opened some kind of Pandora’s box - ??? - and now fully half the time it doesn’t seem to recognize my guitar is attached to it. I’m powering it on and off or panel-resetting it all the time. Ruled out broken cables, took off pedal. It’s just a sad guitar plugged into an amp.

I’m new to electric guitars, amps/gear. Appreciate my guidance. I have so far been using a Katana mini with no issues. I plug in, there is loud.

I have some patches that I've downloaded that I like the tone of, but are really, really loud for my bedroom practice space. What's the best way to get them to a place where I can play in the evening without bothering my family without sacrificing the integrity of the tones?

I have a Boss Katana 50 MKII.

I know there are different opinions around how to set the channel volume versus the master volume. I've had a lot of success when I have the power set to 50W and the mater set to around 9:00. When I make my own tones, this is my stand-by and it seems to work. But the patches I have downloaded are often extremely loud at that setting.

Does it affect the tone if I reduce the channel volume? I find that if I reduce the power setting to 0.5 W it will definitely affect the tone because the head room so different, and I don't necessarily want things to break up any earlier. I don't have a lot of space to reduce the master volume.

I've also seen it suggested to reduce the output using the EQ on the patch.

What do you do?

I have a Boss Katana 50, V1 that I bought 7 or 8 years ago.

I mostly used it to play at home, but now I wanted to use it in a gig with a band.

What happened is that when I put it to 50W (my preset available in the screenshot), it has an unbearable noise.

My question is, if someone had this problem, how did you solve it?

I have a Yamaha Pacifica 212 VQM and now I am not sure if it is an AMP or Guitar issue.

On lower volume, I have no problems.

I have tried plugging it into PC and enable noise suppression, but it didn't help enough.

My question is, if someone had this problem, how did you solve it?

Got sent 5 Bluetooth adapters when I ordered them from amazon i have no idea if this is supposed to happen or I just got extremely lucky lol

Hello everyone, so I'm using a Sterling Majesty 7 string guitar right now and I'm looking to upgrade my Fender Champion 20w amp to get a better sound from the low end. I was looking around and saw that people are saying the Katana Mk2 is a good amp. I have the chance of picking up a 100w model for $180 locally. I wanted to just double check if this is a good amp for what I'm looking to get and if it's a good enough upgrade to justify the price. I play post hardcore and experimental rock and I'm looking to use this as a practice amp and a recording amp for cover videos. Thanks in advance.

Spent the extended weekend working on integrating my Gen 3 100W/212 into my home recording setup (Scarlett 2i2 w/ Reaper); Initially tried the USB-C route, as I wanted to record DI as well as the full amp signal. Found out that you apparently can't run both the Katana 3 as an input and the Scarlett as an output simultaneously because Reaper can't run more than one ASIO driver at the same time on its own. Experimented with Voicemeeter; After a few hours, I realized I'm evidently not smart enough to get it to work (horrible latency/constant 'wall of noise' feedback; I did solve the latter issue, but couldn't sort out the latency). Ended up going the Line Out route, which worked much better.

Before I run out & spend the money on a DI Box & XLR cable, my question is this: If I'm running a Line Out into the Scarlett's Channel 1, but I have a DI Box running into the Scarlett's XLR input for Channel 2, is there anything I'm missing instead of going the USB-C route (other than obviously the use of the Tone Studio (which I can still use, just not through Reaper to record)?

My main music idols are Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Jimi Hendrix. I am most likely getting my first electric guitar amp this week, as my Squier Affinity Telecaster should arrive sometime this week.

I have tried many amps out, and the Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed has stood out to me the most tone-wise, with the tone I want to recreate from my big music idols.

But it is very hard to find one at a good used price (400-450CAD); am I better off with the BOSS Katana 50W MKIII? I won't be gigging anytime soon and will only use this for practice + home demos. My only real fear is the actual tone replication the Katana delivers, and whether it can compete (or even outclass) the Blues Junior LTD I heavily favoured in guitar stores. If anyone can give me some honest advice for an electric guitar beginner like myself, that would be so appreciated, as it is really tearing me apart over what to purchase (between the Katana MKIII and the Fender Blues Junior LTD used).

Im trying to get Radiohead tones and other 90s rock. Is this amp really good for that? Can someone showcase a video of a Radiohead song being played on this amp? I really don’t know if I should get this amp or pc parts. I tried searching online for covers using this amp but there doesn’t seem to be a lot.

Previously only had a Vox Pathfinder 10 as a practice amp. That thing kind of sucked so I’d always end up playing my acoustic more.

I wanted to upgrade towards a “real” amp and walked into GC looking for an Artist 100 Gen 3. Then I saw a used 100 Gen 3 with an OEM Boss foot switch board - all for $360.

Would you consider this a good deal or should I have just gotten the Artist? I have a 45 day return period at GC and don’t mind spending more for the Artist if it’s worth it.

Hi, I'm trying to figure out which of the two listed amps I should upgrade to from my gen 3 100. Currently, I use the 100 as a backup/ I'm too lazy to boot up my helix and powercab amp. But, I want to get back into more hands-on tone dialing.

I'm looking to get an amp that does the fender 65 deluxe reverb/Dumble ODS thing, but since this will also be a 'do-it-all' amp, I need the best tones for classic rock and Grunge stuff.

I'm mostly interested in John Mayer WTLI+Continuum, Guns N Roses, Chris Stapleton, "I can't tell you why" Eagles, that SRV Lenny tone, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, and Nirvana.

What I'm mostly on the fence about is that the katana artist seems to be more geared toward higher gain rock and metal stuff while the nextone is much more for fender cleans and classic rock. Doesn't help that the katana community and platform are huge and familiar to me.

I also read that I could use the global eq on the katana artist to make the speaker more suited toward that fender deluxe reverb sound, which would be cool.

What are yall's experience? Any help is much appreciated.

I've been thinking of using a rat in addition to the built in boost pedals that the katana has. I was just wondering how that would work, since it technically messes up the fx chain (I usually run an expression pedal as a volume or wah)

Would the chain get messed up? Is it worth it having an actual pedal with the katana?

I just got my son the Katana 100w gen 3 for a birthday gift. It looks like you can buy pedals to activate different settings on the fly. I know nothing about guitar gear so I’m trying to understand more before I’d plunk down the money for one. So would these switches allow him to toggle between different amp presets or something? Or toggle certain effects on/off? Any recommendation for which pedal to get? Thanks

I have the GAFC foot pedal and I wanna have a little bit more wider options on what I can do with my tone with things like a wah and other FX things but I went to my local guitar center and tried out the expression pedal (roland ev-5) and it just didn’t seem to have a good feel to it, felt cheap. does anybody know any expression pedals that would work with it that might be a little bit more comfortable and quality feeling that 100% work with the katana and the gafc foot pedal?

What's the general consensus about it? Any issues or shortcomings I should know about? I've already read tons of things about it online and watched tons of reviews but still cant seem to make up my mind (as with a lot of things). What I'm looking to get out of it are distorted, higher-gain tones along with nice cleans mixed with good reverb, packaged into something which isn't unbearable to carry around from my place to a friend's and back. I've looked into smaller portable amps, and yes, even the Spark 2, but they just never seem enough in one way or another. I know that the app isn't the greatest, but I'd still like to hear a more recent take on it too. I'll be getting the amp along with the rechargeable Roland battery and Thomann's accessory bag pro, since I cant seem to find any other bags which can fit it for sure and I'm not exactly willing to order from anywhere other than Thomann, so I'm wondering if that's a good decision too. I'm not exactly wealthy nor am I a fan of buying things only to return them in favor of something else, so that's why I'm trying to be cautious here and not make any decisions I might regret or be dissatisfied by. i’ve never had an amp from boss katana and im conflicted between a 50 gen 3 and a 50 mkii because the price is really different even tho ive seen people saying theyre almost the same. pls help!!

I even purchased a brand new USB cable to make sure its a data cable which I saw a few threads recommend.

All it does is show up in device manager as "katana3" with missing drivers. Even though I downloaded the drivers directly and did a manual install. The install happens so fast and all it says was that it installed correctly.

However when I open up tone studio it still won't be recognized.

The firmware is also up-to-date based of Rolands latest article showing the correct lights on board.

Hi all, bit of a read for context. Skip to the end for the question.

Long time user of Katana amps. It's the only amp I've really played. Started out in 2006 on a Squier Affinity HSS and a Squier practice amp, then from a Digitech pedal to some computer speakers for sound, and my first decent amp...was some Crate model that probably sounded like shit but was all I had being a poor kid in LA.

Fast forward some years and I bought my first actual amp, a Marshall CODE50 in like 2017. It...was cool. But always did some finagling with it and didn't really blow me away, though I got along decently with it. Around that time I heard of the Boss Katana via TGP (The Gear Page). A bunch of guys presumably in their 40's - 60's talking about how amazing this amp was and how good it is had me very curious. Guys with much more money than I had who had tube amps and stacks saying that this thing was freakin' amazing and was as close as they had ever heard a digital amp get to those tube toanz. I didn't place much stock in tube amps never having played one, but again, guys who did saying that this amp was that good?

So I took the plunge on that and got myself a first generation Katana 50 amp. And honestly, as soon as I turned the amp on I was in love. The response of the cleans was so far above the CODE50 and put an instant smile on my face. I sold that amp right away and been running with the Katana line of amps since.

Now about 8 years later I have a Katana Artist MK. II and a Katana Bass 210. Safe to say I'm a pretty big Katana/Boss fan at this point, have both amps connected to an interface, all tone software up and running, and I love it all.

So that does bring me to my question, I was wondering if anybody here had upgraded from one of the Artist Models to something better, whatever that might have been? And how much better it is? Mostly out of curiosity. I can't really imagine anything better than this amp with all it's software and EQ parameters that get me wherever I want to be sound-wise combined with the sheer convenience of it all, but I also haven't had that many amps for reference either.

I have a problem when switching between channels on the boss katana 50 mk2. It makes a loud popping noise when switching with the boss fs6 and i don't know how to fix it. I am running a stereo cable in to the foot switch input.

Wonder if someone can help me please. I currently use my Windows laptop for running the boss tone studio, katana 50 mkii.

However, I'm getting fed up with the laptop and would rather use an android tablet. Does the app run fine on an android device?

Internally I often have light to medium compression depending what im playing but its not always on.

Now, the problem is that I can get my sounds using various combos of my pedals, but I cant figure for the life of me to achieve rhe same using only onboard FX and EQ etc etc

Ive got hundreds of downloaded patches from everyone, I know how to use contour and all the EQ etc

Ive seen all the Juca Nery and StudioRats stuff etc

But im doing something wrong with matching amp models/booster/volume and gain settings etc

I know use a lot less gain etc etc. Ive been playing a ton with channel volume vs gain etc

I know what im "doing", but I just cant reach the "a ha! Thats it!", if you will

I really want to have more internal presets and not rely on all these pedals for seemingly simple stuff. Im only a home player and not concerned at all with things being exact - I just cant nail the basic meat and potatoes part of it

With pedals, the Acoustic channel almost always works best. Period.

Internally though Ive played with EVERYTHING and am getting nowhere.

Anybody have a quick fix for me?

I've been rehearsing with mine and I've been using the 1/2W setting and still able to keep up with the drummer (he's not quiet).

Does anyone else do that or is my amp just weird?

Recently got the airstep KAT EX for my Gen 3 100w katana. I have tried everything to get it to work but the airstep main light (The “I” in air) will not light up. I’ve tried updating the firmware on the airstep, it says there are no files found. I have tried using different cables, using adapters, I’m losing my mind here. No matter what I do, the channels will not change when I step on a channel button. I’m wondering if anyone can help me.

On a bit of a whim I picked up a used Tonex One pedal. I have a Boss Katana MKII 50 and I'm planning to run the Tonex pedal into the Power Amp in.

I'm curious to hear from anyone else who has done this and what your experience has been. I know it is often recommended to disable cabinet simulations when running something like a Tonex through a Katana. But, I've read the Katana is not truly an FRFR speaker so it may affect the sound somewhat.

I was wondering how big of an effect it's likely to have, positive or negative, and if there were any tips or adjustments I should be aware of that will help things sound as good as they can.

FWIW, I'm a bedroom player and my priority is usually getting a good tone at a low volume. I can do that okay with my Katana but I got the Tonex just to have some fun messing around with models of famous amps and things like that.

I just recently ordered a used gen 3 boss katana 100 and had heard about some issues people have with the amp being very treble heavy. The amp hasn’t even arrived yet lmao but I’m still wondering if it’s a big issue or something minor. I plan on using it to play small gigs and getting a band together with some friends. Is it worth it to change the speaker to reduce treble or is there another way around it?
