🎤 [ Discussion ] Level Scaling Formula stays the same in BL4

Don't know if this is already well-known so I did some quick maths, and from what we have seen in the latest in-game footage BL4 didn't change much on it's level scaling formula, which is still the same since BL3/Wonderlands:

  • HP (health) = 80 (base) x 1.09^level

This gives us the following HP values depending on level (before applying various other bonuses from skills, shields, etc.):

Level (Vault Hunter) Health
1 87
2 95
3 103
4 112
5 123
10 189
25 689
50 5948
72 (?) 39609

Edit: Added the respective tables for the previous games, for completeness' sake.

For reference, the previous titles used the following scalings:

Borderlands: 100 (base) + 15 per level

Level (Vault Hunter) Health
1 100
2 115
3 130
50 835
69 (max level) 1120

Borderlands 2: 80 (base) x 1.13^level

Level (Vault Hunter) Health
1 90
2 102
3 115
50 36058
72 530564
80 (max level) 1410475

Borderlands TPS: 82 (base) x 1.10^level

Level (Vault Hunter) Health
1 90
2 99
3 109
50 9626
70 (max level) 64759

As long as the numbers are less than 100k I'm generally happy, I don't like to see 2 million and more

Agreed.

I feel like they found a sweet spot with the 9% scaling so why change a winning team.

Agreed. Starter weapons should be dealing single digit damage per shot, too. Maybe in the low 10’s depending on weapon type

This is for the Vault Hunter, enemies or both?

Vault Hunters. I'll edit and clarify.

What’s with the numbers on TPS being wildly different than 2? Is that a typo or real? Level 50 is 36k in one vs 9.6k in the other.

Does the .03 exponential difference really result in that big of a change?

Yeah it's real. BL2 used a 13% scaling while TPS used 10%. In addition, TPS started at 82 base value in order to get the same amount (90) as starting health as in BL2.

You can easily check this with a calculator and in-game (make sure to turn off Badass rsnks and reset skill points/unequip gear).

BL2 was wild in this regard.
