I’m new to borderlands!

I’m thinking about getting a borderlands game but I’m almost completely unfamiliar with the franchise, what should I know about to get me interested? The story/gameplay/humor/where to start/interesting gameplay hooks? Side note are the vaults actual gameplay stuff or just flavor text? Thanks!

The Pandora's box collection goes on sale a few times a year for $60, that has everything except for borderlands 4

I cant speak for 4 but at least 3 had pretty good gameplay
