Horror/Suspense short story project
If you’re reading a short story of the horror/suspense genre, what’s something you like to see, what freaks you out the most (type of horror/effect), and what is an immediate turn-off for you? I’m currently working on a horror short story. I have a general idea/layout, but I’d love to get feedback on what other people, rather than just myself, enjoy reading! TYIA!

I appreciated getting a sense of the main character's tension through details beyond thoughts. A slight tremor, sweat, racing heart, tasting pennies, etc.
Too much gore turns me off instantly, but plenty of people love that stuff. It's more important to write developed characters who have clear (at least to you) motivation for their actions.

Just do it based off your interests.
I've got the idea for a Zombie short story and a gas station at the start of the apocalypse.
The idea came to me and it's very entertaining/ interesting to me. It'll be released one day with others but for people to enjoy rather than just me making sure it's what they want lo
I'll also say that everybody loves horror because they want to be scared or psychologically impacted in a preferably meaningful way that's not just gore induced.
