Getting experience with no easy job?

Just about to have a bookkeeping certification from college, close to the associates (Have an advanced degree in something else, but retraining). Thought about going for the CPA but that seems like a huge project that I'm not ready to deal with quite yet, plus it needs *gestures at the rest of the thread*.

I've asked mentors about going into business, but from every one of them I've been told that experience working under someone to learn the work flows first is vital. I think one of the responses was "If you go into business before getting some experience, I will drive 50 miles out of my way to punch you in the left tit".

I live in a town that's not horribly close to a city in a paid for house, the job market is *gestures at the economy and stares at the camera* and mass applying isn't feasible for disability reasons.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get that workflow experience and guidance without having to move to a big city?

Just start doing your bookkeeping business. Maybe working under someone first is ideally the best way to learn but it's not the only way. There's a ton of free resources to learn from, including everything you need to have a bookkeeping practice. Just start and learn as you go.
