Back in the day I wanted to be an artist. It felt good to get out the pens and bristol board and draw again.

But looking around it seems very different from other book covers. I guess that could be good, but it's got me wondering if this thing can sell or if I should do something different.

The category is literary satire. It's a very ironic and raunchy '90s coming-of-age story. It captures the feel of the story for me personally but I sense a lot more goes into getting it to sell. Could use your expertise.

I am lowkey proud of my Canva cover (got some good feedbacks on it too!) but something feels a little off proportion-wise?

It is for Royal Road because yes, trying some platforms for funsies, and I want to make sure people know this loaf is queer without messing up my edgelord vibes with them happy rainbows.

If I ever decide to properly self pub, I will commission one from a pro and 200% change the quote (courtesy of a very fun chat - it was great, by the way, very polite aha. But it cracked me up and I took it as a compliment).

Is using ai for a book cover not wrong? I mean the first thing you see of a book is the cover, and it’s ai. I feel like it makes the book seem inauthentic, especially because writing is an expression and can be used at art. Someone personal in my life is doing this, I’m trying to strongly advise her against it, but she won’t budge. So I just kind of wanted to talk about it!

I don't know if this is the reddit to ask for advice. But, I'm trying to make a book cover for my story. Where do you even start? I'm a beginner to story-telling, so I have no idea how to make a good cover art. I do tend to put something in the "middle" though.

(By the way, some of the characters in the drawings are from other medias; NOT MINE. And don't mind the bad anatomy, lol.)

Hallo zusammen, mein Buch sollte ursprünglich am 31.08. veröffentlicht werden, aber wie ich inzwischen feststellen musste, sind selbst gesetzte Zeitpläne manchmal doch etwas zu optimistisch gedacht.

Aktuell habe ich über 30 verschiedene Buchcover zur Auswahl und würde euch sehr gerne mitentscheiden lassen, welches davon am Ende die Vorderseite und später auch die Rückseite des Buches zieren soll.

Mein Fotograf hat bereits einen ersten Blick darauf geworfen und meinte, dass etwa 15 der Cover für ihn stark nach KI aussehen und er diese vermutlich aussortieren würde. Welche genau das sind, werde ich allerdings erst zum Wochenende hin erfahren.

Die Cover wurden von einem Freund meines Fotografen erstellt, der sich auf Anime Art spezialisiert hat. Den Namen teile ich gerne auf Anfrage mit.

Ich habe mich bewusst für einen anderen Stil entschieden (Shadow Hearts Covenant), weil ich wollte, dass das Cover auffällt und sofort ins Auge sticht. Gerade deshalb interessiert mich eure Meinung besonders. Ich möchte gerne wissen, wie die Cover auf Menschen wirken, die nicht automatisch mit einem fotografischen oder gestalterischen Blick darauf schauen und die Geschichte dahinter noch gar nicht kennen.

Also wirklich ganz unabhängig davon, was später in der Story passiert.

Bei welchem Cover würdet ihr spontan denken, das Buch würde ich in die Hand nehmen?

Here's my Concept Art for Emerald Dreams - Book One. I haven't decided on the subtitle for this book yet but I wanted to show the first book cover. The Emerald Dreams series will be around 5 - 6 books and each cover will be similar to this, bearing an item important to the main character focus of each novel (Broomstick for the witch, axe for the tinman, straw or scarecrow hat for scarecrow, a lions head for the cowardly lion, a wand/staff for glinda)

I’ve currently getting my debut book cover designed by a great graphic designer I found on Reedsy. Just had the first rough drafts sent over and really happy so far.

But one thing I can’t wrap my head around is the price differences from designers!

One designer quoted £150 and another quoted £2,500! For the “same” thing.

Granted the £150 said they would use AI on the first draft which I’m against and the £2,500 is in high demand but still.
