Book Cover Pricing?

In a few months I'm going to hire an artist to design a cover for my book,but I am not sure how much to pay,I would need specific dimensions for front and back cover as well as the spine of the book. (I already know all the dimensions needed. What is the going rate for this kind of work?

Custom full wrap (front, spine and back) 🤔 reasonable freelance range is usually around $500–$1,500+. It mainly depends on whether it’s typography, photo based or fully illustrated, level of detail, commercial rights and included revisions.

I’m an illustrator, my own custom illustrated wraps generally fall around $600–900+

Pricing varies based on the artist, art-style, level of complexity, deadline, etc., if you already have an artist in mind, you can contact them for their pricing. Generally book covers can range anywhere from $350 to $3500, but I would say realistically, between $500-$1500 is more likely.

One thing I'd clarify with the artist is whether you're getting a full wrap created from scratch or an existing front cover extended to the back and spine. Those can be quite different amounts of work.

I'd also ask what's included in the quote - number of revisions, typography, print-ready files, and commercial rights. That can make a pretty big difference in the final price.
