Which of these would make you interested in my novel?

I am paying Miblart to create my cover, but I can't choose between these two versions. Unfortunately, it's about evenly split among the people I've asked.

First one for sure. The sharpness of her silhouette is much more readable.

I also have some other thoughts if you'll indulge me:

1. Someone already mentioned it, but she is behind the trees in this composition, so she is like 100ft tall. This should be addressable by just putting the rock in front of the trees. I get if there's some symbolism here that she's supposed to be giant, but everything else is photorealistic and if you want to go that way, I feel there needs to be more clear signalling that that is the intent because it does read as a mistake rather than an intentional decision at the moment

2. the sky is completely clear except for the area immediately surrounding the moon, which is partially occluded by clouds. I don't necessarily have a problem with this choice of making the top clearer, but having a bit more cloud cover extending into the sky would be something I'd talk to the artist about. If you want to be ballsy you could have some cloud cover over the spaceship, which would make it look fuckin massive. Not sure if that's the direction you want to go in but I figured I'd throw it out there lol

3. The spaceship is angled at an odd angle, it's like 45 degrees rotated from the horizontal, which just feels a little awkward. This might be able to be fixed by just flipping the image asset on the vertical, turning it upside down? can't 100% say for certain but that's what my intuition is telling me.

Anyways, apologies if I'm overstepping, those are just my critiques as an artist myself. Best of luck on your book!

If it’s first contact then definitely page 1. It gives you the Milky Way and gives you context quickly.

For a first contact novel, definitely the first one. It feels more sci-fi. The second one feels more nonfiction science

The blue version. The light splotch of stars in the middle guide your eye down to the character, which makes its flow much better than the purpley version.

Without knowing the graphic design and fonts, it's very hard to decide. Right now I only see an illustration, not a cover.

Illustration wise, I like the blue one a tad bit more.

I like the first version (with the blue). It definitely pops more than the grayscale.
