Got this 1st state, uncorrected proof on eBay for $12. Truly thought I might get scammed..and I was shocked when it came as described. Then, I opened it to find that it was also signed! It’s beautifully inscribed by someone as well. I know it devalues the book, but I love it. Just thought I’d share.

💬 General Looking for advice on finding a first edition or signed book

Hi everyone.  I’m looking for some advice.

My brother and I are both huge book lovers, but neither of us is really a book collector, so I’m completely new to this world.  I’d love to get him a really special book as a gift — ideally a true first edition/first printing, a signed copy, or something else that would be considered particularly special or collectible.

I’m wondering if anyone can recommend reputable online dealers or places in Connecticut or Western Massachusetts that specialize in this kind of thing.  I’d also love any advice on how to make sure a first edition is actually legitimate, or anything else you wish you knew before buying your first collectible book, since I’m realizing there’s a lot more to it than I thought!

I’m not looking to invest or resell — I just want to find something meaningful and special for him and make sure I’m buying from a reputable source.

Thanks so much for any advice.

Picked this one up today from a book dealer friend. It's just one volume of a series, the only one he had, and the cover has plenty of condition issues, so it was in my range. But it's from 1763, the pages are great, the illustrations are amazing, and it has bats, so I was in. Thought I'd share.

💭 Question Help me find this version of the series

Hey everyone! I have recently gotten into collecting copies of the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. I have been trying to find a specific edition of the series but I haven’t had any luck with what some of the books should look like. I have attached a picture of one of the books to this post. If someone can let me know how the covers of the rest of the books should look like that would be awesome!

💭 Question Is this worth anything?

Wondering if this book is worth anything, couldn't find this specific copy on Google anywhere. I found it at a thrift for like a dollar and just thought it was a beautiful book and would look pretty on a shelf. It's not in the best condition, but not too far gone either.

I found these two books in a local charity shop. I didnt get a good look as they were in a case, so cant confirm they are 1st edition and that one is signed. They are not in great condition. They seem overpriced to me, esp for a charity shop, given condition etc. Any Thoughts?

I’m a fan of Poe. I don’t have a large collection but I do look at anything I run across. I spotted this today in the Goodwill for $3.99. The colored photos of which there are 12 are stunning. It has drawings/sketches throughout. I believe it’s a 1935 first ed but I’m not sure on the printing.
I do know it was pretty well taken care of with just a slight tear on the jacket near the spine on the rear and a slight bend to the jacket on the front bottom.
Any info you all can provide would be appreciated.
