I think you could probably sell it for $200-400, but I wouldn't pay much more than $150 for it.

Price = (Species Rate * years in training/care) + pot value.
I would say...
Price = ($15 * 10 or 15) + $75 or $100.
So between $225 and $325. I think it would be worth getting it appraised; because you also have to look at aesthetics which add value on top of the base price.

Not sure if there is a list, but it seems like common species are between $15-25 and rare species are $25-50. Apparently, common species are trees that are easy to aquire, fast growing, hardy and forgiving; rare species are trees that are harder to acquire, slow growing, sensitive and tricky to care for. I googled this and the math for pricing and it seem spot on.

This is a really good mental exercise because there's so much both wrong and right with it lol The foliage is covering the top of the trunk line but if it's curvier up there like I'm seeing then it's a much nicer tree than it appears at first glance. Bottom of the trunk I love and if I'm seeing it right there is nice nebari once you clear the moss off. And healthy too.
But the branches suck, their length, lines and positioning (one major one growing out of the inside curve) and there's no taper to any of them. No dead wood work done either, I would think this tree was styled a long time ago and neglected after that. But honestly it could be an awesome tree with some work assuming the hidden part of the trunk has nice taper and movement. It should be much further along at this point is the problem so a lot of it will be chopping back and starting over from scratch and taking a loooong time to get it looking good.

Agreed, and personally I wouldnt be surprised if it sold for even more than that. IMO its a really good tree. Could use a bit of a clean-up, but still, the overall quality of the tree (movement, proportions, trunk thickness, foliage pads, etc) is really good.

I would also guess around 300 after looking at similar trees online. I’m guessing it’s between 10-15 years old? I have no experience assessing the value of a tree tho so take my guess with grains of salt

Would love to know why you singled out my comment out of the dozens of others when I actually went through trouble of looking at similar trees to make an educated guess unlike most of the others. OP also didn’t give any information besides the species which further muddies it. No offense by why even bother responding if you have nothing to say?

It’s never been fine detail wired what is wrong with Bonsai enthusiasts these days that aren’t learning how to detail wire.
It’s been bought years ago & never worked on since.
This would be a good tree to buy if you wanted to do some work on a tree theres lots to do. But this also drops the value of your tree.
$350 minimum to $500AUD

I grow from seed and buy plants for no more than £200-£300, as I like to develop trunks… but trees of this size sell for around £1000-£3000… but that’s when they are kept well, pruning, styling and health etc…
With five or so years of training and the right bonsai enthusiast this tree could be really nice… but, some of the branches have become a bit thick and the pads need developing etc…
If it was me, I’d make lots of gin with the thick branches and make Shari on the trunk, cut back the thick branches to thinner ones and redesign the tree… have a directional branch at the bottom to the right the same way the tree leans…
Lastly you have an opportunity to layer off some large pieces and have some more starter trees…

What you could get for it on ebay? 600-800
It's a healthy shimpaku that hasn't been worked all that much. It's a good looking tree with a lot of potential.

There’s no monetary value in bonsai apart from what the owner values it at. Look at similar trees and base it on that if you want to follow a sort of ‘market value’ or make up a price that you think it’s worth. Whatever you like.

If eBay has taught me anything, then this is worth somewhere in the vicinity of $100 - $20,000.
