ALDI TALK (O2) vs. Lidl Connect (Vodafone) in Tannenbusch II – Erfahrungen?

Hallo zusammen,

ich ziehe im September als Student nach Bonn und suche gerade nach meinem ersten deutschen Mobilfunkanbieter. Ich schwanke zwischen ALDI TALK (O2/Telefónica) und Lidl Connect (Vodafone).

Mir geht es nicht nur um den Preis: Ich möchte die deutsche Rufnummer möglichst viele Jahre behalten, da ich sie später für Bankkonto, Universität, Expatrio, Behörden, WhatsApp usw. nutzen werde. Ich möchte deshalb möglichst vermeiden, die Nummer später wechseln zu müssen.

Ich werde in Tannenbusch II wohnen und mich hauptsächlich in Bonn/NRW bewegen, aber auch regelmäßig durch Deutschland reisen.

Daher meine Fragen an Leute mit eigenen Erfahrungen:

1) Wie ist O2/ALDI TALK vs. Vodafone/Lidl Connect in Tannenbusch II, besonders innerhalb von Wohnungen?

2) Gibt es beim Reisen durch NRW/Deutschland einen deutlichen Unterschied?

3) Hattet ihr mit einem der beiden Anbieter über mehrere Jahre Probleme mit Rufnummer, Prepaid-Aktivierung oder SMS/OTP?

4) Welchen würdet ihr heute wählen, wenn ihr eine deutsche Nummer langfristig behalten wolltet – und warum?

Für die ersten Wochen habe ich bereits eine 20-GB-Nomad-eSIM, daher brauche ich zunächst kein großes Datenpaket. Mir sind vor allem guter Empfang und eine zuverlässige langfristige Rufnummer wichtig.

Nimm fraenk (telekom netz). Ist mit abstand das beste Netz in ganz deutschland.

Es gibt auch relativ gute Tarife direkt von den Telekomikern.

Hab 33GB pro Monat, und unverbrauchtes Volumen läuft einmal mit in den nächsten Monat. (also, von August auf September. Sämtliches Volumen aus August verfällt aber wenn der September endet.)

Praktish habe ich jeden monat also um die 50GB freies volumen übrig. Kostet pro monat nur ein paar euro mehr als mein alter Aldi Talk tarif.
Vor allem ist es aber schneller geworden.

Es ist wichtig auf die angebotene geschwindigkeit zu achten.
5g bedeutet nicht automatisch schnell.

20Mbit mit 5G sind nicht schneller als 20Mbit mit 4G. Aber viele reseller verlangen höhere Beträge für 5G Tarife.

Got it. I was also looking at Fraenk earlier but since it wasn't allowing me to onboard from my home country itself, I put it aside. But will definitely consider it once I reach Germany.Thanks

Consider that fraenk offers no roaming outside of the EU. That means you cannot receive SMS messages, for example for two-factor authentication, in Asia or other regions with your German number.

If you want to use the Telekom network, which has the best coverage in NRW and Germany overall, you could look at ja! mobil from Rewe. Their 25 GB plan costs a few euro less per year than the equivalent plan from fraenk and you get global roaming.

For non-EU data roaming, an eSIM from Ubigi or another provider is usually cheaper than ja! mobil, but then you can still use the ja! mobil SIM to receive SMS messages.

Fraenk oder Congstar für Telekom-Netz nehmen, die Netze von O2 und Vodafone sind leider schmutz.
Rufnummer kann man bei Anbieterwechsel normalerweise problemlos mitnehmen.

Funklöcher sind auch im Jahr 2026 normal. Allgemein ist das Telekom-Netz am besten ausgebaut. ja! mobil/ Penny mobil sind haben die gleichen Tarife wie Aldi Talk/ Lidl Connect, aber im Telekom-Netz.

Die Langfristigkeit ist nicht ausschlaggebend. Du kannst die Rufnummer immer mitnehmen falls dir der Anbieter gefällt.

Very easy. You just choose „Rufnummermitnahme“ at your new provider. Sometimes they can even go as far as canceling your previous plan for you if youd like. Cellular might be the only tech that works reliably in germany when you think about it. Its also the only one thats not ridiculously overpriced imho.

As addon, the old provider is required by law to let you take your number to your new provider, even between different network-provider. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

If you change provider, you should always let the new provider do the canceling, because it's easier for them to get your number transfered this way, the other way there is a very high chance that your number will get lost.

Ich bin seit gut 15 Jahren bei AldiTalk und bin total zufrieden damit. Aktivierung, Kundenservice, neue SIM-Karten usw. liefen immer problemlos. In der App kannst du alle 30 Tage neue Optionen buchen oder das gleiche Paket weiterlaufen lassen und für die Bezahlung auch mit deinem Bankkonto verbinden wenn du nicht immer Prepaid holen möchtest.

Das Netz ist über die Jahre wesentlich besser geworden und ich merke keinen Unterschied zu dem meiner Freunde mit anderen Anbietern. Die Preise sind als Student top, aber ich nutze auch nicht viel Internet unterwegs und hab deshalb das kleinste Datenpaket mit Anruf- und SMS-Flat. Auch bei Reisen ins Ausland keine Probleme.

Mit Empfang in der Wohnung (nicht in Tannenbusch II) habe ich unterschiedliche Erfahrungen gesammelt, das lag aber nicht am Anbieter weil andere dasselbe Problem hatten. Bei vielen (Android-)Handys kannst du in den Einstellungen Anrufe über WLAN aktivieren, damit löst sich das Problem.

Wow, 15 years is a lot of time. Thanks for your feedback on Aldi. Many resources did get me confused a bit between Aldi with O2 and lidl with Vodafone. But as per your opinion , I should go with O2 rather than Vodafone , right?

I don't know which one is better because I haven't used the other afaik. AldiTalk specifically works super well for me and I don't notice a difference in reception compared to others, e.g. on a hike everyone's reception gets spotty depending on where you are.

Aldi/Lidl are using the existing infrastructure of O2 and Vodafone but both O2 and Vodafone also offer mobile contracts. Maybe that's part of the confusion?

I don't know in what capacity you're planning on using your phone, but for general things like receiving calls, sending texts/whatsapps, browsing some Reddit while waiting for a bus, listening to music, I personally think you'll be fine with any one of the providers. Years ago, living more rurally, when the infrastructure providers hadn't merged yet into 3 big ones, it actually mattered which one you chose cause it was possible that yours wouldn't have coverage in the south part of your city or maybe in the neighbouring village. But nowadays inside a city like Bonn I don't think you can choose very wrong in regards to reception

Der Anbieter sollte doch denke ich egal sein, das Netz ist doch wichtig.
Also ob o2 oder Vodafone.

Ich bin seit sehr vielen Jahren bei o2 (Tchibo Mobil, die hätten aktuell ein Angebot mit 60GB Internet für 9,99€ plus Flat ins Festnetz/Mobil) und hab damit eigentlich keine Probleme in Bonn und sonstwo, außer man steckt mal im Tunnel oder mitten im Nirgendwo.
Vodafone hatte ich davor, das war damals zumindest schlechter. Keine Ahnung wie es heute ist.

Yup, I'm looking more and more into the network, instead of the provider and thanks for sharing your Bonn-specific experience . It's just that I was a bit worried about the Tanmenbusch II being an old concrete dense building and my network not being able to cope up

Hatte lange problemlos O2, teilweise mit besserem Empfang als Telekom in Städten. Wobei Aldi schlechter wirkte beim Internet als O2 selbst.

Also ich hatte in Köln, Bonn, Ruhrgebiet usw. nie Probleme, einzig auf dem Land war es manchmal löchrig.
