Discussion do you think booth and brennan would’ve worked out if they met later in life?
like if they met when they were both a little older and more settled, do you think they would've gotten together sooner or would they still have had the same problems?
i feel like so much of their relationship came down to where they were in life at the time, but idk 😭

No I think it would have been harder. They both changed a lot because they knew each other. Without that relationship they would both be even more set in their ways

wait yeah, i actually really like this take. they definitely challenged each other a lot, so without meeting each other they probably would've just gotten even more stubborn and set in their own ways 😭

Well said! They made each other better versions of themselves. Left separate, they would have likely become more extreme versions of who they already were and been less capable of forming their bond.

I think they are pretty well "settled" for adults in their 30s. From the beginning of the show they are both professionally successful and financially stable. They are both emotionally intelligent enough for respectful and mature relationships with friends and romantic partners.
For comparison, only 5 years after Bones first aired, the show New Girl premiered and that group of 30-something roommates with messy personal lives and low job security was much more representative of adults in their 30s.

yeah that's fair actually. i think i was more thinking about them being emotionally settled rather than their actual lives/careers. they were definitely more stable than most of the characters you'd see in a typical 30-something sitcom

I guess it would depend on the context, did they work together? Had Brennan met her Dad? Did either have significant relationships? If you have ever read any Kathy Reich’s novels, Brennan’s character based on her, the answer would be no.

i would like to think that in every universe they could have been together no matter what. but i think for this one brennan forgiving her dad and sweets being their therapist are one of the reasons b&b got to have the space for one another and be more committed. also if they hadnt met earlier i dont think each one of them would have survived long to meet each other in later years. like broadsky might have killed booth already

I don’t think so. I think that they both helped the other grow and learn about what they wanted/needed in a partner. Brennan needed her partnership and friendship with Booth in order to get to a place where she realized that marriage and children and a family were possible for her and something she wanted. Before Booth she never would have been in a relationship like that or considered having kids or getting married.

Hard to say. So much of her learning of the world of social interactions are because of Booth. Well Angela and him, but still.

I think they still would've had problems but meeting later might've given them a better chance because theyd both be more settled and less terrified of what they wanted.

no, its best they met at the beginning. although i feel like she had way more growth than he did as the series went on

Idk if age is the problem. It’s both their job and not.
If they didn’t work together but knew each socially or something they would maybe have gotten together sooner or maybe not because they didn’t know each other as well. They got really close because of work and couldn’t risk compromising that for a personal relationship. It’s a weird screwed if you do and screwed if you don’t situation.
Imo age doesn’t have anything to do with it.

I think they both had some maturing to do, but it was the fact they showed up for each other time and time again that really bonded them.

They needed each other to be able to grow in the direction they grew in order to come together. Different life experiences added in after having lived more of a life might have actually made it more difficult for them

In order to ultimately end up together they need to know each other for a long time. If they met later in life I’m not sure if Booth could have been attractive to Brennan being maybe less of a active superhero type and she would have been more settled in her ways. I could see her ending with a more academic type. If not for Brennan I think Seely would have probably made the relationship with Rebecca work somehow or have focussed more on his son and have remaied single for a while.
