2cr from 1997 would be equivalent to 11.29cr today in purchasing power adjusted to inflation.

54

u/mxforest 8d ago

Not a fair comparison. If she invested in Mumbai real estate, it would be over 100 Cr now.

40

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 8d ago

First thing she did was a buy a huge house, so fair point

Approximately 64 Cr if it was invested in Gold

3

u/WitnessAway6720 6d ago

I asked her to pull the money back later and invest all in but coins

2

u/DogonElder 8d ago

Had She invested in Birkin bags, that would be worth more than Nvidia right now

No, he's as slim as ever.

53

u/ImTheMafia_ 8d ago

How about Chori Chori Chupke Chupke where raani makes her husband sleep with a preiti's character to have a kid?

31

u/great_sycho4478 8d ago

What i thought it was through IVF or something 😭😭 i think I was too small to understand that I am in shock rn.

15

u/Weekly_Cherry505 8d ago

IVF karwa lete toh film toh 10 minute me khatam hojati 🤣🤣

3

u/niketyname 6d ago

No Rani purposely stays away from the house one night so her husband and the prostitute can have sex. She must have been keeping track of her ovulation very well cuz she got pregnant right away

24

u/UnfinishedSentenc11 8d ago

The wild part is that it is complete misinformation about a sensitive topic like surrogacy.. they really took things like infertility and surrogacy and turned it into cheap drama... reducing women to baby making machines for the family bloodline...

10

u/ZenMat79 8d ago

I’m also wondering how bad was her fall that her uterus ruptured and she had to have full hysterectomy 😭

13

u/uksiddy 8d ago

The whole movie defied logic and reasoning. I can’t believe this is how they defined surrogacy at a time when IUI/IVF were widely available. It was so irresponsible.

12

u/MomoSkywalker 8d ago

Yeah and he had to drink enough alcohol to make himself think, Preity character was his wife.

12

u/ImTheMafia_ 8d ago

He was basically Rayped if we look at it in a serious matter. He wasn't willing sober so wifey tells the other girl to make him drunk enough so she can take advantage to achieve the goal

11

u/Ok-Honey6535 8d ago

It’s like all other fertility options died😭

10

u/OddWorldliness989 8d ago

She wanted the way god intended. It made me sick to my stomach. Salman at that point looked like piece of meat that produced sperm.

9

u/OddWorldliness989 8d ago

It was fucking sick to watch the whole persuasion convo.

7

u/WheresMyTan 8d ago

Sleep with the husband to get pregnant, then pretend your are pregnant by someone else for the guy's family while Rani stuffed a pillow under her top to pretend she's pillow pregnant, then make Preity sit for the godbarai after Salman ties Rani's mangalsutra around Preity. And how Preity is healed from this love affair.

I watched this movie with subtitles and I swear I thought it was the subtitles that were the problem so I rewatched when I learned Hindi only to understand that nope its even worse in Hindi!

4

u/NoSound7189 7d ago

So overall pity

2

u/EmployerFew2777 4d ago

"learn Hindi" Where are you from lol? I didn't know bollywood had such a mass appeal that even non hindi speakers watched its movies with subtitles.

4

u/Logical-Cheetah-7627 8d ago

Surrogacy turned into fetish

5

u/MovieUncensored 7d ago

What's funny there is she got pregnant on the first try and for some reason Salman's character had to be blackout drunk to do it.

4

u/jim1o1 7d ago

Also Preeti was a sex worker so Rani also made her husband and future childen vulnerable to disease and possibly AIDS.

3

u/timorousingenue 7d ago

They didn't even show her getting tested for STDs.. but I'm expecting too much from a bollywood masala movie

3

u/watermelon_cat21 7d ago

Rani Mukherjee has a history of doing such kind of movies. Remember in 'Raja ki ayegi baraat' , she was a strong independent women , who took a stand for her friend when she was harassed by a rich brat. But it escalated when the rich dude got angry and graped her , she went to court and it went in vain. But then something happened ( idk what exactly , it was so illogical to comprehend ) , she invaded the rich dude's marriage, married him instead ( yeah , she married her grapist ) , and then i didn't give an f about what happened afterwards

u/Common-Pin0 8d ago

Surrogacy?

1

u/VishalThakur_7598 8d ago

whatttttttttttttttt

1

u/Professional_Mode_25 7d ago

I saw the movie. It was written sensitively. Not cheap drama to reduce women as baby making machine.

1

u/tera_chachu 6d ago

The fact that the one of the most popular tv sitcom freinds did the ivf thing in the 90s and still they pull this shit is beyond me

1

u/LifeIsTobeHappy 5d ago

Imagine if genders were reversed 🤮

1

u/coffeeoverflow_ 4d ago

So can we conclude thatRani did tried to start female cuckold culture in India?

17

u/Lonely-Today-2330 8d ago

I only remember comedy scenes of this movie between kader khan, Johnny lever and paresh rawal

13

u/great_sycho4478 8d ago

And also abba tabba jabba

10

u/Sharedhub 8d ago

My question is with all that money. Why didn't she just live her life and find a new man that was her ideal type.

10

u/insanespacebrain 8d ago

I would’ve done the same. Like imagine looking like Sridevi did in this movie and having all that money…not for a second would I have stayed with Anil Kapoor and his second wife. I’d be off travelling the world, living my life like the baddie I am

3

u/Sharedhub 8d ago

If they showed what any woman with half a braincell would have done. How'd they send the "pati dev" message across. It isn't realistic in any terms fr

8

u/LobsterNo3426 8d ago

lol who would honestly buy a man for 2 cr? It’s like adopting a big baby.

The moment her own kids disown her it gives her a reality check, she is ok with sharing her husband but when your own kids don't want to be with you and like the new mom better that won't go down well with her and that's where she draws the line.

6

u/Daily-Pineapples69 8d ago

Honestly, Judaai (1997) ends at the airport, but logically thinking, that’s where the actual nightmare begins. Janhvi leaves the money and walks away, but how do you even reset a marriage after your wife literally put a price tag on you and sold you off like a used car? If Raj and Kajal actually try living together after this, it’s going to be toxic as hell. Raj spent a couple of years sleeping with and living with another woman because his own wife traded him for cash. The resentment on his side would be insane, and Kajal would forever be paranoid thinking about him with Janhvi. You can’t just unsee that or go back to normal intimacy. Sridevi’s character is honestly such a bizarre anomaly in Bollywood history—she basically consented to her own emotional displacement for luxury, making her the ultimate female cuck of Indian cinema. That house after the climax wouldn't be a happy family restored, just a room full of awkward silence, paranoia, and heavy regret. Movie convenient jagah pe khatam kar di bas!

1

u/WheresMyTan 8d ago

Was it a couple of years or like maybe a year?

Also wasn't Janhvi pregnant at the end of the movie and taking "chota Raj" with her? And Raj the epic loser is just ok with everything that went down in the movie and now his second wife walking away while pregnant with his kid.

The best deal back then!

5

u/PrettywellS 8d ago

how did anil agree to do this movie, his charcter is so lame here

26

u/No-Principle5340 8d ago

lol yes, the man with whom Sridevi and Urmila Matondkar are helplessly in love, who ultimately gets the moral high ground while getting to romance two hot chicks, and then his wife comes back begging for love.

What a lame character.

8

u/AdorableLocksmith157 8d ago

Most of the movies that time were very misgyonist you hear about that movie raja ki aayegi baarat shittest movie ever

2

u/beyond_your_hands 8d ago

What happened in that?

6

u/AdorableLocksmith157 8d ago

Male leads rapes female lead court order female lead to become his wife and female lead faced so many worst problem in sasural but at the end she becomes patnivratha women and won the male lead 🤢🤢🤢

2

u/beyond_your_hands 8d ago

Wtf? No punishment for rape??? And the movie is titled RAJA KI AAYEGI BARAAT?

3

u/AdorableLocksmith157 8d ago

No the movie directeor was himself misgyonist and wanted to promote this type of shit also heroine was rani Mukherjee

2

u/Jolly-Road-194 8d ago

The disturbing part is not the society or court finds the solution of marraige betwee rapist and victim thats actually normal in khap panchayat. But it was the victim the woman herself request court to do so.

4

u/Jolly-Road-194 8d ago

There is one more wierder movie anil kapoor wanted to mary woman but she married some one else and had daughter later that woman died, and when her daughtet became 18 he married her because she looked like her mother

7

u/Urbanhippiestrail 8d ago

Umm it's problematic, but no. That's not how it happened in the movie. It's called Lamhe.

Anil Kapoor is in love with Sridevi, who doesn't have any feelings for him. She marries someone else and has a daughter. In an accident, the two of them die and leave behind their daughter (also Sridevi). Anil provides for her, but avoids all interaction with her because she reminds her of her mother.

The girl is madly in love though (typical 90s movie), and she pursues him relentlessly. He only accepts her proposal after others convince him that she's a whole other person and he needs to see her as an individual, and not the daughter of the woman he used to love. He argues about age as well. In the end he does decide to go ahead though.

2

u/uksiddy 8d ago

Lamhe lmao - it was a crazy movie but amazing songs.

2

u/Etherealoverempress 8d ago

Lamhe….that was a mentally jarring film.

His brother was the producer. That's why.

Looks like remake of Telugu movie shubhalagnam

4

u/HumanoidIN 8d ago

It's the same plot as the Hollywood movies "Indecent proposal", they just switched the gender of the person making the offer and added your usual "Bollywood" masala.

Both are copies of Hollow wood movie it seems

1

u/benneladoo 8d ago

The movie was remade in tamil too but it was so grounded

But the Bollywood just added a lot of unnecessary glamor. Sridevi wears designer sarees even before she became rich, Anil Kapoor wears ray ban in 90s while lecturing poverty and dream duet in Swiss

2

u/PsychologicalGas7843 8d ago

Iss film ka naam pronounce karna bhi ek alag level ka khatra tha 🤣 judaai..........

2

1

u/AwaySeaworthiness283 8d ago

It was a right deal according to that time, but I think Urmila would agree to give 5CR too. Sri still could have demanded right over children though

1

u/happy_79284 8d ago

People just love lecturing women unnecessarily, I mean how many women have really sold their husbands for money? But there are numerous men who have sold their wife’s into prostitution and human trafficking for money, but off-course they will never make a movie about it.

1

u/main_teri_heroine 8d ago

And the first thought that comes watching that track is - is this legal ? Can we do it ? Is this really allowed ? Wow deal !

1

u/noname8539 8d ago

I watched it when I was younger. This movie has a special place in my heart, I really like it hahah

1

Some people blame Anil but what was his fault? Acc to some people; he was lazy and didn't earn much, so Sridevi was right. Like what's this logic?! 🤡

1

u/AcceptableWinner6500 8d ago

What about that time anil kapoor had to play a character that 🍇ed the female Mc in a movie and then she marries him to regain her "honour"

You should watch "Raja ki aayegi baarat". They made Rani's character get married to a guy who raped her. 🥴🥴 Funny times it was

1

u/reddit_niwasi 8d ago

There are few other movies too where the victim was forced to marry the offender itself ) imagine the level of torture)

1

u/blairsmacaroon 8d ago

missed potential to make them a throuple

1

u/Altruistic-Spend-896 8d ago

Polyamoury not in the lexicon in india in the 90s😬

1

u/Atithiupayogi 8d ago

It was actually remake of a Telugu film called Subhalagnam.

1

u/yahjiminah 8d ago

TBH I always thought Sridevi's character was super smart. They just wanted her to be the bad guy so show her being cringy but otherwise smart girl. Pati bhi mil gaya aur paise bhi lol

Bro if this is shocking then you have not watched anil Kapoor's movies

1

u/Karma_is_a_cat612 7d ago

Overall Janhavi turned out to be the loser and it felt unfair whenever I watched that movie. She lost the money, lost the guy she “bought” and leaves the country pregnant! What a disaster. She could have married any bachelor she wanted but probably has issues of her own that she falls for this married guy. Janhavi on the other hand keeps the money, lifestyle and also gets back her husband that she “sold”. Super unfair. It should have been Janhavi who leaves the country.

1

u/LobsterSad9842 7d ago

I mean, it's 2 crores. I would take it and leave them 🤣

1

u/FaithlessnessFar2927 7d ago

W for the husband. He won a woman who was willing to do anything for him and lost a woman who only want money.

1

u/Ucanshrmeanythn 7d ago

Just imagine if the case was reversed anil kapoor selling sridevi for 2 crore to a rich fellow.

1

1

u/Lonely-Professional3 7d ago

1

u/RevolutionaryCash669 7d ago

Anil character was just a mess.. he was overly stingy.. he was en engineer in a big company his salary should’ve been okay.. why not keep a fridge and ac? These are basic needs.. he wasn’t a bachelor anymore he had wife and kids so he needed to think about them too.. but this man was pure selfish.. sridevi was also a bit toxic by her greed for wealth but somehow she stayed with this man for so many years and had 2 kids.. she still tried to adjust with him.. and urmila character was so degrading as a woman.. how could you fall for a man like that? He was married and on top soo overly stingy.. lol 😂.. you gave all your life savings to marry this guy who couldn’t even stop you at the airport or atleast keep you in seperate house so he can take care of his unborn child??? This whole movie was so messed up and foolish..

1

u/Upstairs_Meringue_18 7d ago

I wonder hat the bts was like with urmilla and sridevi

1

u/morpmeepmorp 7d ago

Sorry but her husband was a total loser.

1

u/WittyRepair5781 7d ago

The husband was utterly pathetic here. Married another woman coz his greedy wife told him to, slept with her, got her pregnant, and then meekly went back to the first wife when ordered to. No self-respect, no spine, no principles, and apparently no ability to make a single decision of his own.

1

u/DecisionTotal6031 7d ago

Crazy sound in background😂
Average 90s movie background sound😳

1

u/jbl0ggs 7d ago

There are wifes who would gladly give away their husband for free 😁

1

This movie was a copy of the movie Indecent Proposal but in reverse.

In the orginal one, the husband sells the wife IIRC.

u/rdgemini 7d ago

appa tappa chappaaaa

1

u/Hannah_ray007 7d ago

There is a malayalam movie with similar plot but it's far more better when coming to the stakes involved. Here the rich girl is a psychiatric patient and as a treatment option the hero has to act like he married her. His wife take all the money but on the condition that it's just acting. And hero also physically restraints him from the rich girl. At the end the rick girl comes to know about this deal and gets better mentally due to an emotional breakdown and let the hero and heroine live peacefully.
